Welcome sweet Collette! A couple of weeks ago, we welcomed Collette into the rescue after she was released from a Lancaster puppy mill — no longer “useful” to them. This 4-year-old French Bulldog is now getting her very first taste of freedom, kindness, and love. Collette came to us shy and unsure, but she’s quickly learning that gentle hands and soft voices can be trusted. She’s starting to enjoy belly rubs, sunny spots in the yard, and the company of her two foster dog friends. She’s working on her housebreaking (something that takes a little extra time for our mill moms who were never taught where to go) and every day she grows a bit braver. Collette will be spayed in the coming weeks and then will be ready to find a forever family who will show her what unconditional love truly feels like. Meet Otis, the most adorable French bulldog and Miniature Pinscher mixed pup! Otis is 1 year and 8 months old. He is neutered, vaccinated, and ready for a forever home. His special superpower is his ability to always have his lips stuck on his teefs. Otis was surrendered to us because his humans did not have time for him. We were told that he consistently had accidents in the house and that he was alone most of the day. We could tell that he lacked obedience and did not know boundaries upon intake. His humans did love him, but they did not provide him with a routine or any mental and physical stimulation. He is now doing well with a consistent routine and learning to be a well-behaved pup. His foster mom reports that Otis has not had any accidents in the house since he came. He is a medium sized dog, but he thinks that he is a tiny pup and insists on always getting in your lap. Otis is the epitome of a Velcro dog! He is very affectionate and would love to be with you all the time. Personal boundaries do not exist in his vocab. His favorite thing in the whole world must be chest and belly rubs because he can never get enough of it. Otis will sometimes throw tantrums when he is denied attention but can easily be distracted when you throw a toy for him to chase after. Speaking of toys, Otis LOVES chewing on all the toys. Durable chew toys are a must for this boy. He can be very energetic when playing tug or zooming around the house and yard--and because of this, we think the best environment for Otis is a home without young children. And although he will happily cuddle and snooze on the couch, Otis needs daily walks so that he can exercise his body as well as his brain. Otis is used to doing whatever he wants and will try and push his boundaries to see what he can get away with. However, he is a quick learner with high value food rewards. We are making strides with crate training and leash walking. Otis needs a home with a human that he can trust and depend on. His perfect human will understand that he has been neglected and will continue to help him heal by providing him with lots of love, a consistent routine, and be persistent with his obedience training. Chubbs is a lover not a fighter. He is a little tank of a dog but, wants to be friends with everything and everyone. He did live with another dog who was quite big at some point in his life. He loves cats although, sometimes they don’t love him. He’s met pigs, bunnies and birds and has zero prey drive. A dream of a dog! In his previous home, Chubbs lived with 4 kids who were all quite young. He enjoys watching kids play and will sit before inviting pets from a passerby. He knows his name, basic commands like “sit!” And “leave it” and Chubbs is a very quiet little guy! So far the only time he barked in foster care was when he saw a resident kid dressed up for Halloween (can we blame him?). Chubbs does not guard resources and has excellent kitchen manners. He does not beg even if a delicious hooman meal is being prepared and he often will just go find a place to nap if his people are home and he can relax. He has no destructive qualities except he tends to over-groom but a vet will be consulted before Chubbs goes to his forever home to see if this behavior may be ameliorated.
