Story
Rex is the kind of dog who barrels into your life, rearranges your couch cushions, steals your heart, and then plops directly into your lap like he’s always belonged there. He’s compact, sturdy, and full of personality. Think short legs, smashy face, crooked little mouth, and a lip that hangs over just enough to make you laugh every single time he looks up at you. He knows “sit,” he knows food is the greatest thing on earth, and he absolutely knows when he’s not supposed to do something… and occasionally does it anyway. Energy-wise, Rex is a burst-and-settle kind of guy. He comes out hot for about 20 minutes (especially on leash or with new scenery), then he’s perfectly content to crash on the couch and soak up affection. Toss him a tennis ball and you’ll see pure joy, just don’t expect it back. Once it’s in his mouth, that ball is his and he earned it fair and square. Rex loves other dogs and really wants a full-time canine playmate who can keep up and wrestle. He’s social, playful, and confident, but backs down quickly if corrected. He’s crate trained and settles well, rides great in the car, loves looking out the window, and thrives in a more rural or space-filled environment where he can burn off energy and experience new things. Cats and chickens are a hard no. Leash skills are a work in progress, and if he finds an open door, he will test his speed, which is impressive for a short-legged, smash-nose guy who somehow breathes just fine while doing it. Rex isn’t a polished, perfectly mannered dog. He’s real. He’s funny. He’s affectionate. He leans into you, gets all up in your personal space, and genuinely wants to make his person happy. With consistency, structure, and someone who appreciates a big personality in a small, sturdy body, he’s going to be an incredible companion.   This dog is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. If this is the case, your adoption coordinator will provide guidance on the process.)   To adopt or learn more about this dog, you must complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website: www.sandypawsrescue.com.   PLEASE READ:     •    If a dog or puppy is listed, they are currently available for adoption. Story
. Benefits include: nonstop snuggles, emotional support you didn’t ask for, and a 28-lb Frenchie attached to your hip like it’s a full-time job. Hamm (aka Hamster) is a cuddle professional. A certified lap warmer. A shadow with feet. If you sit, he sits. If you blink, he sighs dramatically and leans on you. If you walk away, he looks personally betrayed. — and this part matters — our little king thrives with boundaries. He is not a “free roam and figure it out” dog. He’s a “give me structure so I can be my best snuggle self” dog. He’s dog friendly and absolutely fine with the right companion, but he’d also be very happy as an only dog. Honestly, he’d probably prefer having his human all to himself. Cats? They’re scary, but he’ll survive. Small kids? Not his vibe. People who love snuggles and rules? Ideal. Crate trained. Potty routine is solid. Velcro level: elite. Food motivation: strong. Drama level: manageable if you know the breed. His foster tightened his routine and he turned into an absolute gem. He just needs someone who understands Frenchies or bully breeds enough to appreciate the mix of sensitivity, comedy, and “I must be touching you at all times.” If you want a best friend who adores you, follows you, leans on you, naps on you, and thrives when you give him predictable structure… this might be your little soulmate. Hamster is ready to be someone’s clingy little shadow. We’re just waiting for the home that actually understands the assignment. Breed experience is required.
