Story
1 and 1/2 year old Estrella is a Shepherd cross looking for a home. She weighs approximately 44 lbs. She is a gorgeous mixed breed dog - lean and sporty looking, with lovely colouring. Estrella and her litter of 5 were found near the SPCA Puerto Vallarta sanctuary in Mexico. Their mum Keisha was tied up and left blind after surviving being poisoned. The puppies were in very poor condition suffering from malnourishment at such a young age. Estrella is now in foster in Kelowna, BC with 2 dogs. She is good with dogs and cats, but can be timid to start. She enjoys walking with her siblings or other friends when exploring new areas. When she would walk with her blind mum she would guide her along and make sure she was safe. Estrella is doing well with the 2 dogs in her foster home, and cuddles up with them in gratitude for them kindly showing her her new world. Estrella is good with people. She'd like a home with a yard, in a non urban centre. She loves the beach, swimming and playing frisbee. If you think you might be a good fit for Estrella please email pvcaadoptions@gmail.com and tell us a little bit about yourself, and we can send you an application, or you can go directly to our application: https://forms.office.com/r/b1Fkq3u4zw See more here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JIMJsXaANs

Story
⚔️He is no masked warrior, but this Zorro is a handsome rascal who's after your heart nonetheless! Zorro is a 3-year-old male terrier cross weighing 45 pounds. He answers to Sergeant Zorro, Sarg and Sergeant Scruffy 😉. 🐕With proper introductions, this pooch is doing great with his foster fur sibling and other dogs, but has taken issue with some overly dominant furry friends in the past. Careful introductions and supervision is key! Zorro has not had proper interactions with children, but has done well when meeting them in public. He is a perfect gentleman on leash, but can pull when interested in something! ☀️Play in the sun, have some fun, and then relax with you nearby is a perfect day for him! He is also mastering the game of fetch. Zorro soaks up the love and is one sweet boy. He loves cuddles, pets, affection, curling up in front of the fire and snuggles under the covers if welcome. As a former LA resident, he seeks heat wherever he can, including snuggling up to the resident pooch! ❤This guy is not one to contain! He does wonderfully when left loose in the house and is not destructive, but he will not go into his crate. He loves to sleep on his bed and will even come onto your bed for a morning cuddle if he's allowed! He is fully house trained. Zorro does show some marking behaviour when entering a new space but is receptive to correction. 🚨Of note: Zorro has a bad habit of sometimes getting laser focused on something. Things like a person or dog walking by or a strange noise he doesn't understand. When he's in that "fixation zone" please note: ➡️He can get reactive and is very hard to distract. ➡️It is best to use a leash to pull him away, versus grabbing his collar, as he will snap with collar pull. ➡️He will bolt after something in this state. Zorro has not been tested with cats or other small animals.

Story
His name is Big, but he's medium sized if you ask us! Only 64 pounds, that's nothing in doggo world! Big is a very handsome 2 year-old German shepherd. He loves to ‘smile' and seeks out affection by flashing those pearly whites! Understandably, not everyone gets that his teeth come with good intentions and … his smile can be a touch off putting to some! 😁 This guy is a master of walking himself, he will carry his leash with pride but be warned → this does not count in on-leash areas. ❌ 🥰A loyal dog to the core, this guy loves his humans! He will always be nearby and will dutifully wait at whatever door you left until you return. When you come back, he'll let you know he's behind the door waiting. He has done well with dogs around his size, but has not yet been tested with dogs much smaller than him. Big has met some kiddos and while he did ok, he is unaware of his own strength and definitely needs further training and supervised interaction. Big has not been exposed to cats. He does well with larger animals, but does like to chase birds. 🐕‍🦺He does well on a leash, but certainly loves to explore and will get tangled sometimes. Big is a crate expert! He happily puts himself to bed and hangs in there overnight. 🚽House training you ask? No issues here! Big knows to keep his business outside! Other in-home behaviour? He can be a bit of a thief and more training is needed. So… fair warning… keep the garbage locked up and food off the counter when you're not there. 🧤One more note: Don't worry about spending a bundle on dog toys, this guy thinks rags, leather gloves and plastic bottles are the best! He will throw them in the air and entertain himself in adorable fashion.

Story
Nelly was recently diagnosed with Severe Aortic Stenosis as well as a severely damaged valve in her heart. Aortic Stenosis is a narrowing of the aortic value, which is the gateway between the heart's main chamber and the main artery that pushes blood out to the rest of the body. This narrowing causes the heart to have to work harder to push blood out to the rest of the body. It is a genetic and hereditary condition that she was born with, and sadly does not come with the greatest long term prognosis. As the disease progresses, she could experience lethargy, exercise intolerance, difficulty breathing, coughing, collapse, and sadly even Sudden death. We are on the search for a very special home for Nelly, one with either a calm mellow dog or no dog as she should be exercise restricted and a laid back home. Sweet Nelly wasn't dealt the best cards with her health but we are determined to give her the very best life she can have. Nelly is an affectionate and energetic German Shepherd mix, about 10/11 months old. Despite her young age, she's already making great strides in learning how to interact with other dogs and respecting their cues when she becomes too excited. As a baby, Nelly is still working on sharing her toys, crate, food bowl, and backyard space with the birds. She's naturally curious and may bark at unfamiliar people or things as she gets used to new experiences. Cats are particularly fascinating to Nelly, and with more guidance, she may eventually be able to coexist peacefully with them. On walks, Nelly does well on a leash, although she can zigzag a bit. She's also learning to be protective over her crate, but with encouragement, she knows to go "in her house" for a tasty snack. Nelly settles quickly and has made excellent progress with potty training, barking when she needs to go outside. She has an endearing tendency to tattle on her foster brother if he misbehaves, barking at him and gently nibbling on his ears. Despite her active nature, she can only sustain play for short periods due to her heart condition. Here are some of Nelly's nicknames and her likes and dislikes: **Nicknames:** - Nells Bells - Nelly Fertado - Ms. Fertado - Smelly Nelly - Neller - Nelly Nibbles - Noisy Nelly - Woah Nelly **Likes:** - Chewing on bones - Playing - Being chased - Pets from her humans - Being outside - Squeaky balls **Dislikes:** - The vacuum (she barks at it and sometimes tries to "chomp" it) - Sharing her items - When other dogs bother her in her crate Nelly is a lovable and lively German Shepherd mix who's eager to find her forever home. With her friendly demeanor, she's sure to bring joy and excitement to any family. If you're looking for an energetic pup who's making great progress in her training and ready to share lots of affection, Nelly could be the perfect addition to your home. If you think Nelly is a good fit for your family, don't wait—apply today to give this sweet puppy the loving home she deserves!

Story
The very goodest boy is looking for a home, you say?! I'm all ears!! 👂 See what I did there 😉 Hiya, I'm Tomas! I'm a 16-month-old shepherd cross clocking in at 63 pounds! Although I may look tall in my photos, I'm a really great height, only 27" tall! Size be damned, I love to snuggle and get hugs! ❤ According to doggy daycare, I do great with other doggos who match my size and intensity, but I can be a little too rough for smaller ones. 🥰I have not had the opportunity to hang out with many little humans, but I did good with the older ones I did meet. I love to chase animals smaller than me, so homes with cats or little animals should steer clear. I didn't show the best street smarts when I met a horse either. 🐎 What else…ooh jumping is easy, jumping into a car is not. I can't explain it really, I can clear a three-foot shrub, but I need help climbing into the car, you make it make sense! 🫶 When I am tired, want pets, want snuggles → I'll let you know! Listen for loud groans, yawns and more! I am fully house trained and a perfect boy in my crate, so no concerns there. The only caveat would be that I get wound up and frustrated if left cooped up too long. So, life outside of a crate would be preferred for me! 🏃‍♀️I really need a family that can provide regular stimulation and exercise for my busy mind and body. I have been told I am super sweet and well behaved, but I am also a teenager so breaking the rules and testing boundaries is still a fun pastime too! I need a firm hand when out on walks as I am dealing with some leash reactivity and pulling issues. If we're on a walk and another dog approaches, I do react and try to pull out of my halti, but I have improved immensely since I have been in foster care! Ready to make me a part of your family? Likes: 🥕Fresh chopped veggies. ☀️Being in the sun. 😍Hanging one on one with my person. ☑️Stuffed Kong 🧸Plush Toys 🛁Warm sponge baths 🛏Snuggling in bed Dislikes: 🦶Having feet touched. ❌Long crate days. 🚫Being hungry!

Story
While I may not be a literary trailblazer like my namesake, I am an accomplished eight month old pup in my own right! From mastering the zoomies at least once per day, acting cat-like when I get my favourite treat and perfecting soaking up the sun's rays, I am a true master and enigma. 😉 I'm Poe and while I don't want to brag too much, I'm a "Poeser" in the most adorable way. I'm handsome, friendly and polite. 😁 I'm a Shepherd mix and currently clock in at approximately 40 pounds. I like being around other dogs and my favourite has to be medium/large dogs because they play like me. Got kiddos? That's even better because I love being around kids and I have a gentle way about me when kids are near. I'm a natural at comforting kids and giving affection. ♥️ I love going for walks and not much of a puller unless I'm looking for the perfect potty spot. There are just so many spots to choose from! I'm pretty used to my crate too....I go in at night, sometimes during the day when I'm alone and when I'm in the car. I get SO excited when my humans get home and let me out but I'm such a good boy and always remember my manners. ☺️ I'm getting the hang of potty training. I have some pretty obvious signs when I need out like frantic sniffing and interest in the door. My humans are awesome at reading my signs so they get gold stars too! 😉 While I've never been in the army, I'm told my commando crawl is better than some seasoned soldiers. My playful exuberance often leads to backyard zoomies with laps around the yard at top speed. When my energy has waned a little, you can find me soaking up the sunshine in all its glory. 🌞 I take cues from my humans so whether you're up for a walk or run or looking to chill on the sofa, I'm good to follow you and initiate sidekick mode to the max. My easygoing personality makes me a great pup for any family. Apply today to meet me and let's start our adventures together! 💙 **At this time, Poe hasn't been tested with cats.

Story
Meet Haggis, a spirited bundle of fur, with a heart as big as those adorable puppy eyes. At just 12 weeks old, this lovable canine companion is ready to embark on a lifetime of adventures with a caring and committed family. Haggis' heart is brimming with love, and all he needs now is a forever home to share it with. If you're ready for the pitter-patter of tiny paws, the sound of joyful barks, and the unconditional companionship only a puppy can provide, consider making Haggis a part of your family.Adopters should be prepared for all the fun, mess, and chaos that comes with adopting a puppy. We highly recommend puppy training classes with an AnimalKind certified trainer to all puppy adopters. Proper socialization at this young age is very important. We don't know how Haggis will feel about sharing his home with another dog, cat, small animal, or small child, but with slow introductions we think he will be happy to have someone else to love. He certainly loves playing and wrestling with his siblings!Adopting a puppy is a big commitment and potential adopters are urged to consider the long term needs of a furry friend, not just the immediate fun. ***Haggis is not yet ready to be officially adopted - he is waiting for his neuter procedure, but foster-to-adopt may be an option for local adopters.***An adoption counselling session with our Adoption Staff is necessary before adopting any animal.Do you think you could be Haggis' person?
