Story
*Meet Eli: The Comeback King * Eli isn’t just any dog—he’s a survivor with a heart of gold. This 6-year-old gentle soul has been on quite the journey, and he’s ready to share the next (and best!) chapter of his life with a forever family. When Eli first came to us, he tipped the scales at 88 pounds and moved through life with sore, damaged knees. But with love, medical care, and a whole lot of determination, he’s transformed. Today, Eli is a healthy 60 pounds, walking strong after successful TPLO surgeries on both knees. He’s living proof that second chances (and healthy snacks!) make all the difference. Eli’s favorite things are the simple joys—lounging near his people, soaking up sunshine, and keeping a steady routine. He isn’t looking for wild adventures; instead, he thrives in calm, stable environments where he can be someone’s shadow and steady source of comfort. He gets along well with both dogs and cats, but his gentle, easygoing nature means he prefers companions who respect his space. He also manages pannus, a condition that causes some vision loss. With daily eye drops (which he takes like a champ), Eli stays comfortable and happy. Because of his reduced vision, a quieter home without young kids is the best match for him. The monthly cost for his eye drops is about $35. When adopted we will send him with several months supply. If you’re searching for a loyal, low-key friend who will curl up beside you and remind you every day of the beauty of resilience, Eli is your guy. After everything he’s been through, he’s ready to settle into the loving, forever home he truly deserves. Eli's adoption fee is $200. He is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and will come with his eye drops. If you are interested in possibly adopting Eli, please complete an adoption application located here: https://idawg.org/application.html

Story
Rubi is about 3 years old and is a black German Shepard. We adopted Rubi about 6 months ago, she is a very loving and a cuddle dog. She has some anxiety about when we leave which has made it hard for us to both have a job in a small apartment. Rubi is great with other dogs and would be amazing with a yard but she doesn't like cats.

Story
Ella is the biggest sweetheart ever! Everyone who meets her falls in love. She has done well with all farm animals, cats, dogs, and kids. There has only been one dog that she has had to stay away from and we can’t figure out why she dislikes him so. Ella loves to play with toys, enjoys snuggling, rides well in a car, and is crate and potty trained. Ella does well on and off leash. She knows basic cues. Ella does need to either have hip surgery or be on pain medication and NSDR is trying to fundraiser and save up for her surgery. She is in pain; if you happen to touch a sore spot, she will signal to you that it hurts. While she is still in pain it is best she is in a home without toddlers that might lean on her or bump her. Ella is already spayed, chipped, UTD on vaccines, dewormed. Ella is 5 year old and a German shepherd. If you're interested in Ella, please go to the link below and fill out a foster form or pre-adoption application: Linktr.ee/northernstardogrescue

Story
Bruce is as goofy as they come. He is a big boy who acts like the biggest kid ever. He and Knuckles know and love each other. They are great friends from their past. Once reunited it was such a wonderful thing to see and made us cry. He is great with every person and animal he meets. Bruce loves to play with his friends and curl up with you. He likes to jump up and give as many kisses as possible, so be prepared for a wet face. Bruce doesn’t like to be left alone; he will need another dog friend. Bruce has had a very hard life. Yet, through it all he stands tall and you wouldn’t know that he went through any of it. His story is long and can be discussed in depth via phone or meeting with serious applicants. Bruce is crate trained, house trained, and leash trained. Bruce is about 2 1/2 years old at the time this is posted and we think he may have German shepherd and Siberian husky in him. If you’re interested in Bruce, please fill out the pre adoption application on link below. Https://linktr.ee/northernstardogrescue

This gentle giant is very curious of feline friends so he would do best in a home without kitties!Health & Care:Neutered and up to date on all vaccinationsHouse-ready and fine in a walk-in kennel when neededIf you’re looking for a big-hearted, fun-loving dog who will bring endless joy and laughter into your life, The Captain is your guy.
