Story
If you’ve been looking for a soft soul to love on in the midst of this crazy world, we have the perfect dog for you! Trixie is the kind of dog who will quietly steal your heart. Sweet and gentle as a spring breeze, she’s like the shy new kid in class, the one who stays tucked in the corner until someone kind sits next to her, offers a little patience, and opens the door to a beautiful friendship. Once she realizes she’s safe and loved, she begins to bloom. Her foster mom, who just so happens to be one of our rescue’s directors, has poured that kind of care into Trixie, and the result has been nothing short of heartwarming. Trixie has gone from a quiet and unsure newbie to a loyal shadow companion, a dog who’s learning how good it feels to be known and cherished. We believe that Trixie is a shepherd mix of some sort around 5 years old and weighs approximately 55 pounds. She has a gorgeous coat that features a mixture of solid black shiny fur with patches of merle and spots on her socks. Due to her being a rescue, age and breed are our best guess and cannot be guaranteed- so we just call her our Texas Special, the very best breed! Check out Trixie here: https://youtu.be/-IDwo75xiM0 In her foster home, Trixie lives with eight small dogs and is steadily showing more of her playful side. During her visit with us, she met a variety of dogs, but gravitated toward Whiskers, a mellow, medium energy male who matched her calm, observant nature. They spent the afternoon exploring the yard together, shoulder to shoulder, noses to the ground. She’s not the kind to barrel into a room or leap into play right away, she prefers a gentle pace, the kind of energy that says, we’ve got time. For that reason, we think Trixie would thrive with a medium-energy dog who respects her space but is open to becoming a playful companion once she’s ready. When it comes to people, she blossoms with those who are patient. Her bond with her foster mom is a shining example, she’s become her little shadow, quietly trailing from room to room just to be nearby. Whether it's a slow morning on the porch, a walk through the neighborhood, or curling up on the couch, Trixie wants nothing more than to share the moment with her person. She’s an excellent car rider, doing great with her leash training, and happily works for treats, especially when it comes to learning new skills or crate etiquette. Like many shepherds and herding breeds, she uses her mouth to communicate and can be “mouthy”. Trixie’s new family should expect to spend some time building trust and will need to keep her on a long lead at first until she knows this is her new home. She has been known to cat and mouse the dog sitter in the backyard when he did not leave her on a leash… but the second her foster dad came home she ran straight to him. Trixie met our housecat Biggie and was gently curious, giving respectful sniffs before moving along. She’s considered cat tolerant and could do well in a home with a dog-savvy feline who won’t mind the occasional gentle inspection. While she hasn’t lived with kids, her quiet demeanor suggests she’d do best in a home with older, respectful children who understand how to nurture a gentle spirit like hers. If there is a certain age you are curious in knowing how Trixie behaves around, please let us know and we will be happy to find out! We want to make sure she is perfect for your family. Trixie is searching for a peaceful home where she can feel safe and adored, a place with a yard to explore, a soft bed to rest in, and a person to lean into. She isn’t a dog that craves constant activity or adventure. But she wouldn’t be opposed to a good walk or an adventure up the mountains. Trixie would not do well in an apartment, she can be vocal when looking for her person, although not for long. She dreams of connection, kindness, and the chance to grow into the dog she’s meant to be. If you're the kind of person who sees beauty in the quiet moments, Trixie might just be your perfect match. Does Trixie sound like your future buddy to do life with? Apply today! https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/686a7f52abb88d9ce7062ead Questions? You can join along on our private Facebook event page to follow their adventure, connecting you with other adopters and providing updates throughout their transport journey! You will get to meet your new pup over a video call before signing paperwork, creating a fun and personalized adoption experience! We have over 15,000 successful adoptions so far and have excellent Google Reviews: https://g.co/kgs/UQ5Pyai We care deeply about making the perfect match between dog and family for long term success. Our rescue has a 2 acre property in Texas where we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group trainings and socialization play groups to keep dogs adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress! Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet. The rescue’s hard costs alone for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,120. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that Three Little Pitties Rescue is not government funded. It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS: Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions 70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission! Story
Calling all Shepherd lovers, do we have a SPECIAL and AMAZING boy for you! Let's roll out the red carpet for this handsome fluffy guy named Woodrow Wallace. First thing's first, look at how gorgeous he is! He is the definition of a show stopper there is no doubt about that. Not only is he beautiful, he has a personality to match. Woodrow is what I like to call a distinguished gentleman. He is gentle, calm, affectionate, respectful, kid friendly, dog friendly, incredibly smart, and the list can go on and on! In our eyes, Woodrow is perfection and lives up to the "wise and wonderful" portion of his name every single day. His foster dad raves about him too and even says his favorite thing about Woodrow is how mellow he is at home and how gentle he is. Watch his video and see for yourself how incredible this guy is: https://youtu.be/eW3WTRijlaM?si=yCZnB5hnwGBf4SFI Woodrow Wallace is estimated to be 5 years old and currently weighs 85lbs. No need for us to question his breed either, we already know and have the proof to back it up. He is 56% German Shepherd, 22% Alaskan Malamute, 12% Siberian Husky, and are you ready for the coolest percentage yet...he is 9.5% Gray Wolf! How stinking cool is that! We weren't lying when we said he is special, but it's not his DNA that makes him so special. That's just an added bonus. Although he has Gray Wolf in his DNA, he acts like a total teddy bear, gentle giant and has what you could say a lab-like personality. The list can quite literally go on and on describing all the ways that makes Woodrow Wallace so special and the perfect dog for you. Woodrow is great around other dogs and the Malamute in him loves being a pack animal. He doesn’t need a home with other dogs but he clearly does well with them! Some of the different dog temperament and personalities of the dogs he is fostered with include the queen bee- senior pittie female- she has no reservations correcting dogs if they get too rowdy. She loves Woodrow because he is very relaxed and finds his spot on the floor or on the couch. You will find a male dog that is more assertive than Woodrow and loves Woodrow because he respects him. Woodrow has also accepted corrections from him too if ever warranted! There are some aloof females and males that he will play with. He gets bouts of the zoomies in the back yard and mostly romps around with the dogs. He isn’t much of a body contact player. He likes to be that awkward 3rd, 4th, or even 5th wheel! If you watched his video, then you also saw how incredibly gentle and tolerant he is with puppies! He clearly was so unbothered by them climbing all over him, bitting his feet, invading his space while he is trying to relax, messing with his tail, or any of the things puppies like to do. Almost like he has taken it upon himself to assume the "big brother" or "fun uncle" role. Seeing how gentle he is, even with puppies is simply who is his to his core. A gentle giant. When it comes to kitties and farm animals, they are not for him, that GSD in him really says “No thanks!” The foster dad feeds woodrow in the crate or free roaming with the other pups. He is very respectful of his food and his friends' food bowls. Speaking of food, he is very treat motivated too and will do anything for a treat but you also don't need one either for him to listen or sit for you. He is super smart and will sit on a dime even if he thinks you have a treat. He already knows how to do some many things like sit, down, and wait. You could probably teach him to do so many other things too. He loves to please and when you are working with him, he is great about making eye contact too. His foster dad also states that he is not vocal. Woodrow is a fantastic car rider. He free roams with other dogs in the front seat of the truck when he comes to visit us for socialization. He has driven over two hours in a car and has not had nausea. This boy is a dream to walk on a leash and he knows it! Hence those hips swaying LOL and that pretty boy walk theme song we gave him. P.S. don't judge the singing voice. We had children between the ages of 6-11 walk him and he just strolled around, with ease, and in no hurry. Perfect for those Sunday strolls around the neighborhood or any time of the day honestly. Regardless, every walk with him will be nothing but a peaceful stroll enjoying the fresh air. Woodrow also does great during his leash meets with dogs. We walked him near busy areas, near barking puppies, near cars, and running people. He just minds his own business and waits for your instruction to keep moving forward. Every person that walked by us had to ask to meet and did he love it! He made sure to roll on his back to ask for all the extra pets. His favorite person was 13 year old Sofia. He wanted to be near her and even shared physical affection and treats from Sofia with other dogs around. Woodrow made sure to sit for her, wait for her, take treats soooo gently from her, and even accept some voice corrections! The funny thing is, we honestly think he loved Sofia the most out of everyone he met and it made us all a little jealous. He would go off and do is own thing but never strayed too far and would always come back to her for affection. Woodrow is ready to join your life asap! He is such a well rounded boy. Great with all types of dogs, great with kids, great on the leash, great for adventures, great for strolls around the neighborhood, he currently lives out in the country and loves all that fresh air. His calm, collected personality makes him great for so many different environments but we do believe he would be the happiest in a home with a yard and plenty of space to stretch his legs. We are willing to test Woodrow Wallace with anything you need us to in order to ensure it's a perfect match. We can make anything happen! Just let us know.
