Story
This handsome fella is Nick. He's a 2yr old Shepherd-Heeler mix who was an unclaimed stray that we pulled from a shelter to save his life. Nick is full of energy and playfulness. He's in school to learn good manners and commands, and is doing so well! Nick would be a great addition to an active family. Nick is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and currently receiving prevention for flea, tick and heartworm. If you're interested in welcoming Nick into your family, please submit an adoption application via our website, www.effinghamanimalrescue.com.

Story
The Hyena Squad Has Entered the Chat 🐾🦴If you hear faint giggling in the distance… don’t panic. It’s just Shenzi, Banzai, Ed, and Azizi plotting world domination. Or, you know… chasing a leaf.Inspired by the iconic trio from The Lion King (and one from the live action remake), these four fluffy little Pride Rock plotters are 9 weeks old and already very large for their age.And they are going to be LARGE when fully grown. Now let’s talk reality beneath the fluff:These pups are a powerhouse blend of German Shepherd, Australian Shepherd, and Heeler… and if their coloring is any hint, possibly even a touch of Belgian Malinois for extra spice.Translation:They are brilliant. They are busy. They are not decorative throw pillows. They will grow into big, driven, athletic adults who need:• Daily exercise that actually counts• Structured training and consistency• Mental stimulation that challenges their sharp little brains• Adopters with shepherd or heeler experience who understand working breeds is ideal.Active families are a must. They may thrive in farm settings, but let’s be clear:They are not livestock guardian dogs meant to live outside 24/7.They want to help with chores. They want hikes. They want jobs. And then they need to live inside with their owners and be part of their daily life.If their Aussie genes show up strong in their coats, grooming will likely be part of the deal too.Yes, they are fluffy.Yes, they are adorable.Yes, their little hyena grins could convince you to make questionable decisions. But please research shepherd and heeler breeds before applying. Couch potatoes they are not. Think “full-time adventure companion.”If you’re ready for loyalty, intelligence, athleticism, and a dog who wants to work alongside you and then curl up at your feet at the end of the day… one of these Pride Rock plotters might be your match.Introducing the Serengeti Squad:Shenzi- Female (smallest of the pack)Banzai- MaleEd- Male (Spotted Merle coloring and largest of the pack)Azizi- Male To apply, visit EffinghamCountyHumaneSociety.orgTheir adoption fees are $225 and this includes their spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccines, dewormer, flea and tick prevention, and a microchip that we register for you.Which hyena is your favorite?🐾

Story
Info about dog: Name: Kylo 8y/o pure bred German Shepherd Behavior pros: neutral around strangers (people), fairly good recall, he lives with another confident large dog and does well with her after a slow introduction Behavior cons: leash and fence reactive to other dogs, high prey drive (not good with small dogs, cats, chickens) Reason for giving up: We do not have time to devote to him and his training. We hope another family can give him lots of love and attention. Notes: Ideally who adopts him would need a privacy fence or to live in the country because of his reactivity and because he likes to be outside :)

Story
Looking for a funny, sweet, and smart as a whip companion? Then Sugar is your girl. Sugar is a year old German Shepard/Shar-pei/Pit-bull mix, and she’s got the brains to back up the breed. She’s energetic, playful, curious, and always down for a cuddle. Sugar is a whiz at tricks, and knows sit, down, heel, roll-over, and spin already (if you have a treat to give)! She can be reactive, and does prefer to be your only friend, but she will absolutely make up for it with all the love she can give. Now, stop on by and give Sugar some sugar! Sugar is a STAFF FAVORITE pet! Here's what our Animal Care Staff, Cassie, has to say about her: "It's never a boring walk with Sugar. She's the most trainable and driven dog I've met, and she's both food and affection motivated. I've been really enjoying working with her, and she's gotten so much more confident here at the shelter. She's so cuddly and sweet, and yet perks up and locks in when it's time to train. She's very attentive and genuinely wants to give you her very best. And seriously, I say this with the upmost affection, but she looks like a bug. I can't look at photos of her without laughing. Her ears flop in different directions, and her tongue is always hanging out to the side. Despite the dopey appearance, she's so clever, and always finding a way to surprise me with how quick she figures things out. I truly love her dearly, and I want her to find a forever home that will do the same. If you want a friend who will make sure you never have a boring day, then come snatch Sugar up."
