Story
Needs foster/foster to adopt Kimber is a stunning white Shepherd with energy for days and a heart that loves just as big. Born on 4/20/2021, he’s the kind of dog who thrives when he has space to run, people to love, and a purpose for all that playful energy. If you’re someone who enjoys staying active—whether that’s walks, yard time, lake days, or just being outside—Kimber is ready to be right there with you. He absolutely loves people and will happily soak up all the attention you’re willing to give. He’s grown up with structure and knows his basic commands, comes when called, and is already leash, kennel, and house trained. Kimber does best with consistency and an outlet for his energy—he’s not a couch potato, he’s your go-go-go kind of companion. ✔️ Loves running, playing, and staying active ✔️ Great with people and kids ✔️ Enjoys water, sprinklers, and lake days ✔️ Leash, kennel, and house trained He’s not neutered yet, but that’s something we’ll cover. Kimber is ready for his next chapter—but he needs a foster or foster-to-adopt home to get there. If you’re looking for a loyal, fun-loving dog who will keep life exciting, Kimber might be your perfect match.

Story
If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will always have your back, Link is your guy. This 7-year-old German Shepherd is everything you love about the breed! Smart, devoted, and deeply connected to his people. He’s the kind of dog who forms a strong bond and sticks by your side through it all. Despite his classic shepherd instincts, Link has a wonderfully laid-back nature and truly enjoys simply being with his humans. Link is both potty trained and crate trained, and he settles nicely into home life. Like many shepherds, he takes his job of “keeping watch” seriously and will let out a protective bark when someone enters the home! Just his way of making sure his family is safe. He does have some prey drive, so a home without cats or small animals would be the best fit. While he has done well with a baby, his natural herding instincts can show up with quick-moving toddlers, so a home with older children would suit him best. Link is the kind of dog who will love you with his whole heart! Steady, loyal, and true. And once you’re his person, you’ll never walk alone again. Link's adoption fee is $400 plus MN tax which covers his neuter, vaccinations, microchip and any additional medical care he may have needed while in the rescue’s care. We are a foster based rescue, we do not house dogs at a facility. Age and breed are NLR's best guess as we often don't know who or what mom and dad are. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website. www.northernlakesrescue.org

Story
This big guy is a 2-year-old, 83-pound German Shepherd mix who sadly came to the shelter when his owners could not bring him along in a move. He`s a big cuddle bug who takes just a moment to warm up to people before he loves them with his whole heart. He happily sits for a treat, loves squeaky toys, and can`t get enough time outside in the fresh air.Louie`s previous owners noted that he does well with children and loves to play with them. He grew up with his littermate and was great friends with them. However, he is quite reactive to other dogs here at the shelter. He would need to have a very slow meet and greet with any potential dog siblings to make sure they`re a good fit.Since Louie loves the fresh air so much, he spent a lot of his time outdoors in his previous home, and he would love a yard or a family where he can be out in nature often. His previous owners reported that he is potty trained, but he has had a few accidents here at the shelter. Once he`s back in a regular routine, we think he`ll get the hang of things again!Louie is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on his vaccines. You can visit him at the shelter Tuesdays through Saturdays from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM or Sundays from 12:00 to 5:00 PM.

Story
Winchester, aka Winnie, is a year and a half old, 71-pound German Shepherd mix. He was rescued from a situation where he and a few other dogs were treated poorly. A kind family took Winchester and his buddies in for about a year, until they unfortunately suffered from medical issues and could no longer care for the dogs. In that temporary home, Winnie lived with other dogs, cats, children, and farm animals, and he did amazing with everyone!Winchester tends to be a bit timid and submissive when first meeting new people. It only takes a few moments for his sweet nature to take over, though, as he can`t stop himself from showing affection even when he`s scared. In a few moments he’ll be army crawling right up to you and flipping onto his back hoping you`ll pet his belly. Fast movements can startle him, so he just needs a slow and gentle introduction to realize he is safe. Working through Winnie`s fears is so worth it. He loves so hard, even though he`s been given reasons not to trust.Winnie likes to be outside and is used to having the lay of the land, as well as a heated dog house. He spent plenty of time indoors as well, but he truly enjoys the fresh air. Since he`s been here at the shelter, we`ve taken note that he`s totally potty trained! He is also working on learning `sit` -- though we can`t tell if he`s listening or if he just really likes to sit next to us and get petted on the head.Once Winnie is comfortable in a new space and with new people, his main focus is on loving you with his whole heart. This sweet boy is really one of a kind, and we know he`s going to bond so much with his future family.Winnie is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on his vaccines. You can visit him at the shelter Tuesdays through Saturdays from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM or Sundays from 12:00 to 5:00 PM.
