Story
This darling boy is a 5-year-old, 90-pound German Shepherd mix. Sam was originally rescued from a situation where he was confined to a small kennel almost 24/7. While his rescuers cared for him deeply, significant life changes unfortunately meant they could no longer keep him. Thanks to their detailed notes, we know all about this sweet boy’s history. Given his troubled past with kenneling, we are eager to move him out of the shelter and into a permanent or temporary home as soon as possible. Sam will take time to fully open up to new people, but we know his heart will let the right people in!Despite a difficult start in life, Sam became a beloved family member to his rescuers. He is an incredibly fun, affectionate boy who truly loves his people. He is always up for an adventure, adores being talked to, and is highly motivated by treats. As a true people-pleaser, he has amazing recall once he trusts you and is happy to perform basic commands. Sam is fully house-trained and will enter a kennel when asked, though he prefers to free-roam due to his history of confinement. Best of all, he never counter surfs and rarely begs! One of Sam’s favorite activities is doing the zoomies in the snow. He has the time of his life when a friend tosses snowballs for him to catch or shovels snow into the air for him to jump through. When Sam is happy, he hops around on his feet as if he can`t contain it, yet he is polite enough to never jump up on people.Sam previously lived with cats and does well with them, provided they are calm and don`t startle him.

Story
Luna`s adoption fee has been fully sponsored by Scott Robin, the incredible volunteer who has come to visit nearly every day to socialize her and who is responsible for her phenomenal progress.Luna Star is a special girl with a challenging history. At only 10 months old, she has already faced a harsh life that left her very closed off. In her previous home, Luna was largely neglected. She was left to her own devices and confined to a room for over 12 hours a day. While she loved her brief moments outdoors, she wasn`t given the socialization she needed to feel confident. As a result, she became terrified of strangers, often growling out of fear. Though she loved the few people she knew, she didn`t receive much attention from them. Without any prior training or positive exposure, her transition to shelter life was overwhelming and frightening.Thankfully, Luna found a friend in Scott. An exceptional volunteer with a big heart for special cases like Luna. Scott saw Luna’s potential and knew that with enough time, kindness, and patience, he could help her feel safe.During her first few days at the shelter, Luna refused to leave her kennel, growling in terror whenever anyone approached. Scott began visiting every evening, sitting patiently outside her kennel with treats and a calm presence. On that first night, Luna slowly inched toward him. By the time he left, her little paws were relaxed across the threshold of her kennel - the closest she had come to the exit since her arrival.Over the next few days and many treats later, Scott coaxed Luna Star out of her shell. Eventually, she began to sit and lie down near him. Soon after, she was cuddling up to him, leaning her head in for pets and offering him her trust.By the end of the week, Scott managed to get Luna Star outside. She overcame her fear of the leash (with a little help from some whipped cream!) and finally got a breath of fresh air. Her happiness was clear in her wagging tail and enthusiasm. Scott continues to visit multiple times a week to help Luna socialize with the rest of our team. By leaning on the trust she has for him, he is teaching her that our staff and volunteers are friends, too. Now, Luna Star greets Scott with a wagging tail and happily joins him for long walks. While she is still learning to trust others, she grows a little braver every day, accepting treats and even the occasional pet. As she opens up, her natural sweetness truly shows. She

Story
Meet Arlo, a 3-year-old, 60-pound Shepherd/Pit mix with the absolute cutest smile. Seriously, just look at these pictures and try to tell us he isn`t smiling!Arlo loves people, but he’s a bit on the shy side at first and prefers to be the one to approach you for a greeting. Once he knows you, he`s your best friend. He loves sunbathing, going for walks, and playing with his favorite tennis balls. When the day is done, he just wants to settle in for a campfire or cuddle up on the couch to watch TV and share some ice cream. He’s just like us!This smart boy is already fully potty trained and kennel trained. His kennel is his `safe space` where he feels most secure when he’s home alone. He`ll also happily sit, shake, and lay down for a treat!Arlo has successfully lived with other dogs and children, and he even did well when meeting cats. Because he’s a shy dude, he would do best in a home with older, quiet, gentle children, as loud noises and high energy can be a little scary for him. If you’re looking for a loyal, treat-loving, TV-watching best friend, Arlo is your guy!Arlo is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on his vaccines. You can visit him at The Babinski Foundation Animal Shelter Tuesdays through Saturdays from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM or Sundays from 12:00 to 5:00 PM.
