Story
Booker didn't have the best start in life, but we are determined to make the rest of it the best. Booker loves other dogs, but MUST be dogs his size or larger... no exceptions! He is kenneled trained and housebroken. He is still a little timid of men and kids. Older kids would be best. He will go up to new people, but disengages. Shows absolutely no aggression. He is still learning that he is loves and that he deserves attention. He would like a home on the quieter side. Someone that has patience. He is fantastic with his foster mom. He is being fostered on a farm and is great with most of the animals. He is still learning that sheep are ok and not to be chases. If you think you are the one to give this guy the life he so deserves, please submit an application. He is up to date on vaccines, neutered, microchipped, has been dewormed and flea treated. All current pets MUST be up to date on vaccines and spayed/neutered unless there is a medical reason. www.pawzandpurrz.org RR335 Please Note: We are making changes to our Foster to Adopt process. Limited resources to follow up on pending adoptions and delays in processing payments is adding to our financial restrictions. Going forward we will collect payment when the dog is transferred to the potential new owner and will be held for an agreed upon trial time. Exceptions or extended trial times will be considered on a case by case basis and will depend upon the need or situation.

Story
MINA aka SARA is almost 9 months old and a sweet, friendly pup who loves people. Mina is a smart, curious girl who’s full of puppy energy. She enjoys training and is very food motivated. After a day of running in the yard and playing with her toys, she loves a good snuggle. She doesn’t mind the crate during the day but wants to be near her people at night. Mina is fearful reactive to many dogs. She currently will bark intensely but does not charge the other dog. She can be corrected by a tug on leash and pulling away. This behavior could be significantly improved with training. Currently she will need to be an only dog. 🐾 Mina walks well on leash and is a favorite of the volunteers. Knows sit and some other commands and takes treats gently. She loves car rides and settles down quickly while driving. She is calm and not much of a jumper for a very young pup. 🐾 She likes cats…maybe a bit too much for some cats?! She would probably do fine with a dog-savvy cat who’s used to dogs, or a cat who knows how to keep its distance. She'd would also do best in a home without young kids because previous owner reported that she can resource guard food. (dob 4/14/25) 👉 Adoption fee INCLUDES: all vetting to age (including deworming, flea & tick etc), spay/neuter and microchip (if the dog is under 6 months, alter and chip will occur after they're 6 months, covered in full at our clinic or reimbursed partially at a vet of your choosing). If the dog is older than 6 months and not yet altered, we will schedule ASAP (normally within 30 days) at our clinic . We also provide as an incentive a $60 rebate for completion of positive-based training classes. Adoption also includes lifetime support of the rescue. 💜 Please click PURPLE BUTTON above to apply or go to www.secondhanddogrescue.com/apply ! ✍ APPLICATION PROCESSING: We do most application processing virtually and dog meets will be individually by appointment with ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS. We are not a shelter and are completely volunteer foster-based, so there is no central place to come see all of the dogs available. 📌IMPORTANT NOTES: ** Housetraining with rescues is sometimes a work in progress and even if a dog is 100% in a foster's home, it should be expected there will be an adjustment period as a dog adapts to a new environment. This is even more true if the dog has not by chance had their altering appointment at time of adoption. ** Also, we highly recommend some form of 2-week shutdown and decompression for dogs going to a new home for best results. --> Lastly, breed guesses in rescue are just that (GUESSES!!) 99.9% of the time. We do not do DNA testing and our breed guesses are based on appearance and sometimes other traits, but we know the dog breed guessing game is a fool's errand even for those with LOTS of experience. 🗺 ADOPTION AREA: several hour radius of Rochester, NY (Canada within 3 hours IS allowed, except that young puppies need to be old enough to have gotten their rabies vaccination to cross the border - usually around 16 weeks)
