Story
Milo arrived with us at the shelter November 9th, 2023- as an unruly pup 10 months old. The family did not have the time for him, and unfortunately it shows. He had no prior training in manners, or boundaries and can be a lot when over stimulated. Milo did very well in the shelter environment, getting the structure and routine from the staff and volunteers. There were no red flags. Milo got adopted out Dec 11th brought back to the shelter Dec 16th because of over stimulate redirection. It sounds scary but this can be managed with proper outlets and a good dog trainer. He is incredibly smart and needs proper stimulation/ mental and physical stimulation. He needs a "Nothing in life is free kind of concept in any situation. Meaning he needs to work for what he wants to get; he cannot just have it. So, for example: sitting before going through doors, crossing roads, getting food. Just getting him to do tricks or commands for any task helps get him stimulated in a positive way. Some other Great outlets that work WELL for him are: PLAYING BALL: This benefits him by being interactive with him in a positive way. This teaches and keeps him interested at the same time learning to work with you. FIND IT GAMES: Hiding treats in a room or outside in a fenced area and just letting him use nose to find things, giving him positive feedback. Doing this daily would benefit him as positive stimulation for him. SNUFFLE MATTS are more ideas for "find it games." Find it games helps to focus his energy so that you can encourage, and reward positive behavior. KONGS and DOG PUZZELS, more ideas for excellent "find it" games. These are what he enjoys doing in his down time or in his crate. LOOK AT ME: To do this, do not say his name or make a noise, just wait him out. When you see Milo's eyes look at your face for even a quarter second, say your marker "yes!!" or use clicker. Give him a treat, move a couple of feet away and repeat. Doing this daily will benefit him in simple training ENRICHMENT: This is very important for any dog and be creative!! This is a good way to make milo want to take you seriously and work with you- it helps to get over that adjustment "bump" of Milo getting into a new environment and become overstimulated with no outlets to go to. Milo is muzzled trained and learning to be crate trained. Milo is house broken and enjoys cuddles and belly rubs! Milo will not do well in a condo or apartment setting; he will need a house with a fenced area to play. Using these tools, Milo has completely turned around and has become a lovely dog! He will be a project but has so much potential! He has won over the hearts of many staff and volunteers, who just want to see Milo go to an amazing loving home! If you would like to get to know Milo or have any other questions, please contact the shelter info@uppercredit.com or 519.833.2287

Story
Diesel was surrendered by his owners due to the on-going medical care he requires. Diesel suffers from Idiopathic Epilepsy, which means he has seizures and requires medication daily. Diesel has been in a foster home for a few months and he is thriving! His foster family says he has perfect house manners and his separation anxiety has improved drastically. He now rarely ever whines when they leave the house. Diesel absolutely loves to run around outside and play fetch. After a busy day of playing he will cuddle and lay right beside you for hours. He has been awesome with the family's dog and cat! He does not resource guard with food or dog beds. However, he can sometimes be reactive with other dogs when he is on a walk. This usually only happens if the other dog reacts or engages first. He can take time to warm up to and become comfortable around men. Car rides can be a bit stressful for him, but he has been getting better each time.
