Story
Meet Nitro, a 6.5-year-old German Shepherd/Malamute mixes! This cutie arrived at our shelter after being seized along with their 5 other siblings. Cashew and Nitro do not need to be adopted together but they get along great if someone was looking to add two new members to their household. Both have been altered, vaccinated, microchipped, and dewormed and are ready to find their forever homes! These two are both very sweet dogs who would make someone amazing pets!We always recommend testing all our dogs with any other potential family members prior to adoption to ensure the best outcome for all!If you are interested in adopting this pet, please fill out an adoption questionnaire at www.yakimahumane.org and a staff member will contact you once your questionnaire has been received.A Picture says 1000 words...right? While an animal's picture draws interest, the reality is that as a potential adopter most people would like as much information as possible about a pet. The Yakima Humane Society is an open admission shelter. What does this mean? Over 90% of the pets at the adoption center arrive as strays, no history of behavior or medical care is known. Adding a pet to your family is a big responsibility. Please research carefully and remember that adoption is lifesaving. Adopt Don't Shop.

Story
Meet Duke, a 6.5-year-old German Shepherd Malamute Mix dog. Duke and his 6 siblings arrived at our shelter after being seized by the Sheriff's department earlier this month. These guys have not had much exposure, so they are timid at first, but we know with the right home they are going to make someone excellent pets! Duke has come such a long way since he arrived at the shelter, he keeps his kennel sparkling clean and goes potty outside! Duke has been going out on walks with volunteers and is loving getting out for adventures! We always recommend testing all our dogs with any other potential family members prior to adoption to ensure the best outcome for all!If you are interested in adopting this pet, please fill out an adoption questionnaire at www.yakimahumane.org and a staff member will contact you once your questionnaire has been received.A Picture says 1000 words...right? Story
Meet Banana, an adult spayed GSD!On 7/20, Banana was found running stray in Toppenish. It's impossible for us to know of her past, but whatever she has gone through has made her extremely shy and wary. She has since been in our care as we have been trying to socialize her, and she has come a long ways. She has a very sweet and mellow demeanor and we believe she would make a great companion animal; once she trusts someone, they become her person. We are crossing our fingers that Banana can be adopted out with Estaban (a senior Lab/Chow male- who is also up for adoption) as the two were found and brought in together; they are an extremely bonded pair and rely on each other in different ways. We understand that adopting two larger dogs may seem like a daunting task but they are both very calm and easy going. Every once in a while they will play with each other like they are puppies, but overall they love to take naps, relax, and just be in one another's presence. Banana has had a few outings with a foster to see how she would do in a home and with other animals. She is a little nervous upon first introductions, but otherwise she does well around other dogs and even cats. We believe Banana would do best in a calm environment with an experienced dog owner and preferably no children. She has some fears to overcome, but with the right person she has proven to come out of her shell and would make a very good companion animal. She is quiet, well behaved, kennel trained, and as a plus she's a little on the smaller side for being a German Shepherd. This pet is available for adoption at the Yakima Humane Society spay&neuter clinic. If you are interested in adopting this pet please fill out an adoption questionnaire at www.yakimahumane.org. A Spay and Neuter staff member will contact you once your questionnaire has been received. Adopters are welcome to visit the adoption center Monday-Saturday.A Picture says 1000 words...right?
