Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Bonnie! Bonnie is a sweet 60-pound, 1–2-year-old Golden Retriever/Great Pyrenees Mix female dog.  She was found wandering around in a neighborhood in the rural south and wound up in a pound.  She’s a gentle and submissive girl with her people, and she has a submissive grin that is seen from time to time as she waggles her butt and tail full force.  Bonnie is housebroken, and usually quiet in the house, and is currently kept in and Ex-Pen.  She is very brave about new things, she put on a car harness and a gentle leader right after we met her and seems to have a very trusting nature despite whatever happened in her past.  Bonnie will need some positive motivational training to be the best pup she can be.  She came to us with typical golden retriever pup type behaviors such as jumping up for attention and hugs (we think she was encouraged to do this in the past, she seemed quite puzzled that we were not enthused about this). She will also need training to walk better on leash, we think she was kept as an inside/outside farm dog. She’s very tolerant of being brushed, wiped down, and having her feet handled.  Bonnie will need a fenced in yard, preferably non-climb, four feet or higher.  No tie-outs, no E-collar fencing will hold her back from exploring (and that may be why she ended up in the shelter).  She’s a higher energy dog, with a mix of breeds, which may include Poodle in the mix.  Since we do not know her background, only families with older, larger, sturdy and respectful dog savvy children will be considered.  Tweens and up would be preferred. An active family home would be best, as Bonnie is the opposite of a couch potato and needs at least two longer walks per day. If you are an active runner, Bonnie could be placed in a condo or apartment setting, however, she will ALWAYS need to be on a leash whenever she is outside a securely fenced environment. NO dog parks for this gal.  We were told Bonnie was good with other dogs, but here she seems a bit unsure about them.  So, with another older, male large breed dog, and slow/careful introductions she may do just fine.  NO CATS or other small furries.  She has been curiously non-interested in chickens and goats, but extremely excited about deer and rabbits/squirrels. The best home for Bonnie would give her lots of love, good food, a safe spot to exercise and some training to be the best dog ever.  Bonnie is currently underweight and is being treated for Lyme/Ehrlichiosis.  She is asymptomatic, and seems very healthy, except for her coat, which seems to be non-shed (so far) and medium length.  She is eating up to six cups of high-quality kibble per day, and she enjoys her food immensely. Bonnie has double rear dew claws, but there should be no issues with them, except to make sure they are kept trimmed.  Bonnie is UTD on all vaccinations and is on medications.  She is not yet spayed, and any potential adopter would be required to work with the rescue to complete that if not done at time of adoption.  If this beautiful girl sounds right for you, then send in your application today. Bonnie can’t wait to meet you!    Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue microchips all dogs and cats before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the shoulder blades and are another form of identification should the animal get lost. The microchips are registered to    Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue. The adopter's information is added once the adoption is complete. The adopter is responsible for a $19.99/Year registration fee or a $45.00/Lifetime registration fee to change information.    Dogs and Cats still need to have collar with tags should they get lost.
