WE ARE A TX-BASED RESCUE. THIS DOG IS CURRENTLY LOCATED IN TX AND WILL BE TRANSPORTED UPON ADOPTION. Please fill out an adoption application at haydudeequine.org Meet Creamsicle – The Golden-Hearted Girl Who Never Stopped Believing in Love At around 9 months old and 48 pounds, Creamsicle is a beautiful Golden Retriever–Great Pyrenees mix who somehow ended up with all the Golden personality and only the Pyrenees fluff. Sweet, friendly, eager, affectionate—this girl is sunshine in dog form. If Golden Retrievers had a motivational speaker division, Creamsicle would be the CEO. But her start wasn’t golden at all. Creamsicle spent her whole puppyhood tied to a tether outside a trailer, watching the world from a spot of dirt she never deserved. No toys. No soft beds. No one to run to. No one to run with. And yet… her heart never quit. When she first came to us, she had a little food aggression around other dogs—understandable when you’ve never known if your next meal was guaranteed. But with time, consistency, and the realization that she’s finally safe, Creamsicle has blossomed beautifully. She’s now doing wonderfully with her dog friends and has never shown an ounce of aggression toward people. Humans, in her eyes, are made of magic—especially the ones willing to pet her. And oh, does she love to be loved. She leans in, she wiggles, she smiles with her whole face. She gives love like she’s been storing it up for months—because she has. Creamsicle deserved so much more than what she got in her puppy months, but she refuses to dwell on the past. She’s too busy soaking up cuddles, handing out kisses, and living her best “I’m finally free!” life. Her capacity for forgiveness and joy would put most of us to shame. This girl is resilient, goofy, grateful, and ready. Ready for a family. Ready for a home. Ready to love—and to be loved back. If you’re looking for a sweet, gentle, funny, deeply affectionate companion with a heart big enough to light up your whole house… Creamsicle is your girl. Apply today at haydududeequine.org, and get ready to welcome a brave, bouncy, golden-hearted miracle into your arms, heart and home!! 🐾

Story
Hello there, I'm Lucy, the most curious canine you'll ever meet. My curiosity got me here, actually. I was once in a grocery store, just sniffing around. I saw a sausage stand and thought, 'Aha, free lunch!' But, the sausages were tied to a string. I pulled one, and the whole stand came crashing down! Amidst the chaos, a kind soul brought me to this shelter. I've learned my lesson, I promise. No more sausage heists for me. I'm all about belly rubs and fetch now. So, how about it? Ready to add a little Lucy-love to your life?

Story
Hi there, I'm Ryno! I'm young, a bit shy, but oh so sweet. I'm still learning about the world, but I'm pretty smart, so I catch on quickly. My favorite thing is making friends with other dogs. We run, we play, and sometimes, we just sit together, enjoying each other's company. I require a home with another dog that will be my pal and role model. I'm not just a fun-loving pup though, I'm also a great listener. I'll sit by your side when you're feeling down, and I promise to always make you smile. I may be shy, but I have a lot of love to give. I'm hoping for a family who will help me come out of my shell, and in return, I'll be the most loyal friend you've ever had. Will you be my forever home?

Story
I am looking for a patient and calm house with a securely fenced yard and another dog my size that would be a great role model. I am shy and timid so having experience with dogs like me is the best. I will benefit from dog training and more public socialization. I am crate trained and love playing with toys with other friendly dogs my size. I do not like cats and have too much energy for small children.

Story
This stunning 5-year-old Orange Belton English Setter is ready to find a family that understands him. He’s a big boy at about 70 lbs and while we know he is an English Setter, we can only speculate about his bloodlines because of his larger size. Augie is a smart, independent, treat-motivated boy who picks up on training quickly. But he’ll need an adopter with expertise and patience to help him build confidence, especially in new situations. Here’s what makes Augie special:  Low prey drive – no lizard or squirrel-chasing chaos here!  Companions  – he is ok with the company of female dogs his size but honestly people are his favorite, and he doesn’t need another dog in his forever home.  Yard enthusiast – a good-sized, securely fenced yard (6’ fencing) is important for his playtime.  Timid but willing – he may start off a little nervous, but with time, he’ll blossom into a devoted companion. Augie is searching for a kind and experienced adopter who will guide him with love, consistency, and patience. Because of his size and enthusiasm for his people, he’s looking for a home without children or older folks who might be accidentally knocked about by his affectionate nature. Could that be you? Apply today and give this sweet boy the home he’s been waiting for!  April 13, 2025, 7:35 pm

Story
Meet Denali! Denali is a 6&#226&#128&#145year&#226&#128&#145old neutered male English Setter with a gentle heart and a naturally happy spirit. He’s almost always wagging his tail, even when he’s unsure of new situations. Once he feels safe, his affectionate side shines through. Denali has formed a strong bond with his foster mom but has been slow to learn that other people can be safe and kind too. With new visitors, Denali prefers to keep his distance and may bark from afar, but he does not show fear aggression. His instinct is simply to retreat when he feels overwhelmed. Denali is still building confidence with everyday experiences like wearing a halter, exploring new rooms, and going in and out of the house. His foster mom is helping him practice calmly and consistently, and he’s beginning to understand that these things aren’t so scary. Walks are a future goal for him, and he’s taking the first steps toward that milestone. Denali loves gentle affection from his foster mom and happily wags his tail whenever she looks his way. He enjoys playing with the resident golden retriever, who is similar in size, and he shares toys well with the other dogs in the home. He’s tall and slender for an English Setter, with a graceful build. It took him some time to feel comfortable entering the bedroom, but now he sleeps peacefully on the floor at night. Every once in a while, he surprises his foster mom by hopping onto the bed when he thinks she won’t notice—he’s still deciding how he feels about that privilege. Denali has a strong interest in squirrels and will stand on his hind legs to watch them in the trees, barking enthusiastically at his unreachable “friends.” In the yard, he usually comes when called. He loves soft toys and also enjoys chewing on sturdier bones. Denali shows no food aggression and is comfortable sharing space and toys with other dogs. Denali is a very sweet, sensitive, and happy dog who will thrive with someone patient, gentle, and committed to helping him build confidence at his own pace. He will do best in a calm home with people who can slowly introduce him to new experiences—new rooms, new people, new animals, and new equipment like halters or collars. With time, trust, and consistency, Denali will blossom into a deeply loyal companion. December 25, 2025, 12:17 pm

Story
Meet Luna and Bowie! Luna (6 years old) and Bowie (9 years old) are hoping for their forever home or forever foster home – a home and people that are looking for devoted companionship from this duo. (Learn about SWESR’s “Furever Foster” program.) If you are one who is devoted to your pets, this pair is for you! (Bowie and Luna’s previous owners moved overseas and were unable to take them.) Bowie, a stunning chestnut field English Setter and the older of the two at approximately 9 years old, is a spry, handsome, and dapper fellow. While his expressions are often watchful and serious, he is a cuddler looking for a companion who will be as devoted to him as he is to you. Don’t be fooled by Bowie’s age, as he is able to run and turn on a dime, enjoys walks, and explores the backyard, especially when a human companion is with him. He also welcomes play sessions inside of the home. Bowie welcomes belly rubs and love, but will let you know with a grumble or growl if you are petting an area that bothers him. (Bowie does not care for being picked up or moved about much, and is rather nervous when visiting the vet. When he is nervous, he may present the aforementioned grumble or growl.) Bowie appreciates his meals and will do a dance if he thinks his dinner time has passed and wants to draw your attention to the time – an impressive spinning dance to behold!  Luna, a beautiful blue field English Setter, is a sweetie pie and has a sensitive soul. Thus, soft, kind, positive words for training work best, as well as treats, the same as for Bowie. Luna is also devoted to her humans, and wants to be with you and near you all the time. She loves her toys and will bring you a toy if you have been away, even if you’ve been in another part of the house for just a short while. Luna will also play catch with her toys with you. Outside, Luna loves to sit in the grass while letting the wind blow through her gorgeous fur, and enjoying the sunshine. If you’re with her when she’s basking, all the better to her. She also loves walks and has a very pretty point when she encounters a bird or hears something rustling in the grass or trees. It may take Luna a bit longer to show her personality, but her happiness when greeting you will give away just how deep her emotions and attachment run.  Bowie and Luna are accustomed to having furniture rights: They want to snuggle on the couch with you, as well as sleep next to or near to you. They both love walks and exploring, but are strong and have a tendency to pull – especially at the beginning of a walk when they are excited. Since both Bowie and Luna are treat- and food-motivated, their current fosters believe they will respond to treats/rewards to learn how to walk without pulling, such as on a loose leash.  Both Bowie and Luna know the commands for “sit” and “stay,” particularly when treats are involved. Luna and Bowie are house-trained – not a single accident while with their fosters. Luna will sit in front of the door when she wants to go outside; Bowie will even ring bells hanging on the back door to let you know he’d like to go outside. (They generally go outside together.) Per the veterinarian, Luna could lose some weight. But she loves to walk as well as explore the backyard when her humans are with her, which will no doubt help with that effort. She will also gladly play (and exercise) with you in the house via fetch with her stuffed toy. Bowie is currently taking allergy medicine once a day. Giving medicine to Bowie is easy. He is eager to have his additional treat in the morning. He is also very easy to bathe and enjoys being groomed. Both Bowie and Luna are aware of the purpose of a kitchen, and have no doubt had human food over the years. With some training, both Luna and Bowie now will wait outside of the kitchen area while their meals are being prepped; however, they still need a reminder to sit and wait patiently outside of the kitchen versus trying to help you prepare meals. (When you try to explain the concept of opposable thumbs to them, and they just look at you like you’re dumb.) Bowie and Luna ride well in the car, although they get a bit concerned and vocal if one of their humans leaves the vehicle, even with the other human present. When enroute, they are as quiet as mice and simply relax during the ride. Tethering the two when in the car works fine.  Bowie and Luna would be a great match for anyone seeking loving, congenial dogs, particularly for those who are home most of the time and looking for companionship. This duo has a lot of love to give, and both Bowie and Luna enjoy being with their humans. They do not enjoy being separated from their people. (While not destructive, the pair will bark when their humans leave the house.) Currently Bowie and Luna enjoy a medium-sized fenced backyard with a six-foot privacy fence. They are not currently sharing a home with other pets or children. Prey drive is unknown. They are curious about open doors. Thus, a watchful eye on gates, doors, etc., is recommended, especially in the beginning when they are getting used to a new environment. Since Bowie has some sensitivity about being touched in certain areas, and does not care for being picked up or scooped up at this time, we recommend a house that will be respectful when he lets others know that he is uncomfortable and would like a little space. He is quick to cuddle up to one after voicing his opinion and truly is a cuddle bug, albeit with some occasional, modest boundaries. If you are looking for devoted, loyal companions, who treasure being with you, please contact SWESR regarding adoption or being a furever foster for Bowie and Luna.December 22, 2025, 1:12 pm
