Story
Nilo reporting for duty as your Golden Welcome Committee! If your house is the one where friends drop by and there’s always room for one more, Nilo would like to apply for the position of official warm-welcome greeter. This big, orange-gold boy takes the classic golden retriever job description seriously: love the people, carry the stuffy, and find out whether swimming is on the agenda. As a rescue, we can’t guarantee his breed, but Nilo makes a pretty convincing case! At six years old, he brings a calm, easygoing energy to his very social life. Want to meet the sunshine behind all that golden fluff? Head over to YouTube to see Nilo’s friendly personality in action! https://youtu.be/-6cETgGdP9s Nilo is fostered in a loving home with several dogs and three children, ages five to fourteen. He’s wonderful with the kids and enjoys being part of everyday family life. He’s also a great car passenger, with one small request: a boost into taller vehicles. He’ll put his front paws up and wait for his people to handle the rest. Why abandon a system that works? While Nilo is friendly with other dogs, he would love a home where he can be the only dog. He doesn’t need a canine companion to feel complete, and having all the people to himself would suit him beautifully. He also met our house cat with a cautious, respectful attitude—a lovely first impression that suggests he could share a home with a feline friend with proper introductions. Give Nilo a soft stuffy, a chance to splash, and people to welcome home, and you’ll be speaking his language. He’s ready for a family who appreciates a sweet dog with a social schedule. A pool would just be a bonus! In love? Story
FIRST STEPS: Please visit https://www.save-a-mutt.org/adoption-application/ to fill out an application - a Petfinder Inquiry is not the adoption process. We don't do meet and greets until applications have been approved. All our dogs are located IN Washington State - we are a local foster based rescue and no transport from another state required. :) Thanks! --- Meet the Aussie Animal litter. These puppies are from a last litter - Mommy is an Aussie / Husky mix and is very pretty. We were told daddy was a Golden Retriever and DNA confirmed it. These puppies are very fluffy and adopters may need to be prepared to include grooming in their budget. They are very sweet - in need of manners - but it's mostly not knowing any better. They have met big dogs, little dogs, and even a cat... no issues. While not traditionally housebroken, he's only had a couple accident in the house, and is crating when the foster is gone. He sleeps in his crate at night for 7+ hours. When Bilby first arrived, the entire 'living in the house' was a little scary. But he's adjusting fast and learning what it means to be a loved dog. He LOVES LOVES LOVES toys, collecting them is much fun! This boy is such a Golden Retriever in nature and love. He's got a very soft personality and we think he would be good with just about any family willing to give him the time to settle in - he can be a bit shy, we are working on exposure to the entire outside world. He's an excellent couch snuggler and very responsive to correction - smart boy! Perhaps another friendly dog would be a good companion to show him the ropes. He's playful and fun with the foster's resident dogs - big and small. At 7 months old, he's in the 50# range, likely to be 60-70# when fully grown. This puppy is neutered, microchipped and fully vaccinated. Puppies are good with dogs, cats, kids and more. Being a puppy, they will need lots of training, including housebreaking. Remember, puppies are cute, but they have sharp teeth, need to be fed 3 times a day and poop... a lot! They will cry in their crate, might need a potty break in the middle of the night. They will pee and poop in your house - your fault ;) - and will chew on your shoes, your childrens toys and maybe even the furniture. But... once transitioned into your home, will be life long companions! The 3-3-3 rule is a guideline for transitioning a rescue dog into its new home and helping it to settle in. It suggests that the first three days should be used for adjusting to its new surroundings, the next three weeks for training and bonding, and the first three months for continued socialization and training. Each dog goes home with a goody bag including collar/leash, toys, chews, Kong, and more. You will receive all medical records, microchip transfer form and other paperwork at the time of adoption. Adoptions typically take place in Stanwood. Adoption fee is $525. Save-A-Mutt is a registered 501c3 and half of your adoption fee may be tax deductible. Save-A-Mutt is a foster based rescue, we do not have a facility to visit. Our adoptions are typically done Monday - Saturday, we are closed on Sundays to give our volunteers at least one day off. You must be available to do meets and adoptions during that time frame. We can make exceptions only with the approval of the foster home. Please note, we have approximately a 300 mile adoption radius - Portland OR area and Vancouver BC is the farthest north. We dont ship dogs, once approved you must pick them up in Snohomish County, WA. Canadian adopters must be able to come to Stanwood WA to pick up your dog.

Story
Butternut is a great dog and beloved, but not getting the life she deserves. I am small, have a disc injury and we are moving to Alaska and drastically downsizing out of necessity. She is a supremely smart and adorable dog. She lives for food and jokes. She is 68 pounds of muscle, joie de vivre, and mischief. I cannot manage her on my own and my older kids who handle her are going off to college. She’s six years old now and should be calmer than she is. She’s perfectly crate and potty trained, and gets at least two good walks every day, but I don’t trust her to roam the house. She gets excited and curious and the walls shake. If I keep her in her crate, she’s an angel, but she can't live there all day - it's cruel. She’s difficult to keep fenced. She knows several commands and picks up new ones crazy easy. She just needs a job and space to run around. She's excellent with livestock, especially horses.
