Meet Barkley! He’s a six-year-old, energetic, loyal companion who loves walks, playtime, and being wherever his family is. We’ve had him since he was a puppy, when we brought him home from a breeder. Barkley enjoys the simple things: heading out for a walk, interacting with other dogs in a friendly way, and spending time with his people. He’s always ready for some fun, and when it’s time for bed, he likes to sleep near his family. He is house-trained and does best with a consistent routine, including regular walks and opportunities to go outside throughout the day. He prefers company over being left alone for long periods, so we’re looking for a home where he can have plenty of companionship, attention, and daily activity. Barkley is protective of his family and does bark to communicate. In our experience, he is not aggressive and enjoys friendly interactions with other dogs. Our hope is to find someone who will welcome him as part of the family.

Story
Kota was found on July 4th, 2026 as a stray, he is now about 1 and half. He is kind, but has anxiety when meeting new people. He is not aggressive and rarely barks. When walking he is good, but gets very excited when is sees bunnies or birds he wants to hunt. He is playful and good with our cats, but shows more fear around dogs. He does great when going to dog friendly restaurants/breweries and ignores other dogs. He would do great in a house that is active, someone who wants to take him exploring, hiking, or hunting. He is healthy and smart, catches on quickly! He will be missed, we feel we aren't able to give him the life he deserves.

Yamary is a 3 year old, 13 pound Terrier blend who joined us recently from Yuma. He is typically energetic and playful, as his age would suggest. He is working with our volunteers on his basic commands, and he LOVES a good game of fetch, although he hasn't quite mastered the return portion of the event yet. He is living at our adoption center while he waits for his forever home! Yamary will do best as your only canine companion, and prefers a home with a yard.No appointments are necessary and you can come and see us any time we are open. Please go to our website (www.azfriends.org) to fill out a consultation form then come and see us! We do require any family interested in meeting our dogs or cats to fill out a consultation form – this form helps us determine if the dog/cat and the home are a good match, since it is so easy to fall in love with a photo, without knowing the personality of the dog. Once you have filled out the online Adoption Consultation Form, just come in and see us (or come and see us and fill out the consultation form upon arrival)!Please note that ALL dogs and cats are available to the first home that meets the dog or cat that we feel is a good match. In order to help make the best match, we do want all family members (dogs and humans) to meet any potential new family member. Our adoption center hours are: Closed Sunday/Monday; Tuesday 10a-2p, Wednesday 3p-7p, Thursday 3p-7p, Friday 10a-2p, Saturday 10a-4p. We are located at 952 W Melody Avenue in Gilbert (zip code 85233).All animals are altered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, licensed (dogs). Cats tested for FELV/FIV. Dogs tested for Heartworm. All animals are available to the first family that is a good match, and if we have more than one animal who is a good match, there will be a lottery for all matches. Note that families must have come in to our adoption center and spoken with an adoption counselor prior to any lottery (when we have lotteries, they usually occur on Saturday mornings).

Name: Zurich Breed: Aussie/Poodle Mix Gender: Male (Already Neutered) Age: 4 Months Good with dogs (big+small?): I only have big dogs but I say yes, he would get along with a small dog too. Good with cats: Not sure, but he was previously with a cat rescue... so maybe. Good with kids? (If so, what ages): I haven't had him exposed to any kids yet. He is bad at wanting to jump at people a lot, so real small kids that may be an issue. Good with men: Yes! Crate trained/in process of: Mostly crate trained. Goes in very well but will whine sometimes at night for a few minutes before settling. Doggy door trained: Don't have one. Leash trained: Will be starting leash training soon. Knows any tricks: Currently working on basic commands. Getting pretty good at sit. Likes: All toys, running fast around the yard chasing the other dogs, being near his person. Dislikes: He does not like when a dog(s) tries to play too rough. Must haves: Someone patient to work on his training. Someone who is home a lot and/or another dog in the home. A yard to run around in or an active person. Apartment dog: I don't think so. He is not a big barker but when he is upset because he doesn't want to be shut up or sometimes when he wants a toy another dog has he can be a loud barker. Fun facts: Zurich can be a little timid with some things but he is a bouncing little acrobat with others things. I think after basic training he would do great at agility training.
