Story
Toby is a 6 year old miniature goldendoodle who we have had since he was a puppy. He has a big, goofy, sassy personality, he loves to explore and run around and solve puzzles. He's a great snuggler and loves to roll on his back for belly rubs and eat ice. We have discovered he sadly does not do well with young kids and has bitten both of mine (ages 2 and 4). He also doesn't do well with other animals/pets and needs to be the only pet in the home. He is fully house-trained and crate-trained. He has been to obedience school a few times, and knows all the basic commands but can be stubborn without evidence of a treat. He would do best with an experienced dog owner who is willing to dedicate time to continuing training practice with him (even at home). He would also love a fenced yard. Since we plan to continue expanding our family, we have made the difficult decision that it is in Toby's and our kids' best interest to find him a loving, quieter home to live out the rest of his years.

Story
Manila is a 2-year-old Goldendoodle who came to us through a friend and quickly became part of the family. She’s affectionate and cuddly, always looking for a lap to curl up in or a hand to nuzzle, but she’s just as happy playing when the mood strikes. Manila is great with kids and other pets, making her an easy fit for almost any household. We’re looking for a new home due to a move, and we’d love for her to land somewhere with some outdoor space to explore, an active family to keep up with her, or simply a calm, loving home where she can be everyone’s best friend.

All dogs are age appropriately vetted: Spayed/neutered (3+ months old) Fully vaccinated: Rabies, DAPPv, Lepto, Lyme, Bordatella (6-12 weeks+) Microchipped Dewormed and received preventatives for fleas/ticks/giardia/coccidia/worms Visit Sunshine's Facebook photo album: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1299267389048910&type=3 NO SMALL CHILDREN or SMALL DOGS/ANIMALS POODLE-TYPE EXPERIENCED NEEDED Meet Sunshine Born: July 2025 Breed: Shepadoodle (Shepherd x Poodle) Gender: Female Weight: 40 lbs Sunshine's story is heartbreaking but her spirit is incredible. She came from a severe backyard breeding situation where many dogs were too terrified or reactive to even be approached. Sunshine was one of the few who allowed herself to be helped and that alone says so much about her heart. Despite everything she's endured including having puppies in that environment who didn't survive Sunshine remains gentle, curious, and full of quiet hope. She truly wants to trust. There isn't a mean bone in her body. She does well with other animals and would benefit from a patient, understanding home that will let her continue to come out of her shell at her own pace. Every small step forward with Sunshine is meaningful, and watching her learn what love and safety feel like is incredibly rewarding. Sunshine didn't get the life she deserved at the start but her future can be different. She's ready for a home that will show her kindness, stability, and the love she's been waiting for. Story
Say cheese! Meet Cheddar Cheezdoodle! This young man was abandoned locally, his background a mystery and has been a bit of a tough guy to figure out. If you want a doodle because you heard they are easy first dogs who love everyone and everything and are quiet and calm and come fully trained and are basically living stuffed animals... you probably should rethink getting a dog at all, but definitely not this one. He was already neutered and recently groomed but no one came to claim him at the shelter . He is overall an outgoing happy friendly guy who loves adventures and meeting new people. But he has a nervous distrustful side and can get defensive with quick movements and some handling/being picked up, bothered when sleeping or laying down. He will need an experienced adult home that understands dog body language and can learn to work around his quirks and rules. Let sleeping dogs lie and give him his own sleeping space not in your bed. If he steals something out of the garbage instead of chasing and prying his mouth open he gets paid the cheese tax to give it up. Muzzled for vet appointment and grooming and no surprise collar grabbing or picking up. He is smart and a fast learner and expects you to learn his rules if you want him to learn yours. He is talkative and in tune with his people, stares at you and has full conversations like hes trying to desperately communicate something but we arent sure exactly what. Is he hungry? Want a walk? Playtime? Did Timmy fall down the well? . He definitely looks like he was loved and cared for at one point and we wish he could actually talk and tell us his story. He gets along with other dogs though sometimes barks in their face when playing and chases them so some dogs (and people) find him a bit annoying. We think he's a mini golden doodle, mini labradoodle, or maybe just a big mini poodle, about 22lbs and 2 years old. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Cheddar Cheezdoodle in Northern NJ. Story
Gelato has been shaved down, neutered, updated on shots, microchipped, and is ready to get started on a new life! He’s 2 1/2 years old, 20lbs, some kind of cockapoo/mini doodle non-shedding mix that will require regular grooming for life so he never ends up so uncomfortably matted and neglected again. He loves other dogs and could be a little shy at first but warms up very quickly and a sweetheart. He was wee wee pad trained and never taken outside in his previous home but has been learning to go outside when taken out. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Gelato in Northern NJ His origin story: *Insert sad story about matted neglected dogs here* Gelato, his baby mama, and their son were surrendered this week in horrifically matted condition. They were “loved” They were fed. And that’s it. And it’s not enough. Due to lack of spay/neuter (despite free spay/neuter help being offered months ago 😖), their owner ended up with multiple litters of inbred puppies and 7 dogs in the home that they kept. The landlord complained so they surrendered 3 of the “oldest” dogs that were in the worst shape and kept the younger pups from the most recent litters. They were never taken outside and just kept in an apartment all together, trained to go to the bathroom in a crate on wee wee pads. They “were healthy indoor dogs so never needed to go to the vet”. And these ones definitely never went to a groomer anytime recently, if at all, judging by the inches of mats covering them. We were able to spay the remaining female pup they kept that they refused to surrender, so at least there will be no more litters, and animal control is involved to follow up on the care of the remaining dogs. But we are relieved we were able to get these 3 surrendered and a chance at a better future. Griselda (grey), is 10 years old and has had at least 3 litters in the last 3 years, and was just in heat so would have probably been having even more 🤦‍♀️ She’s a Shih Tzu/poodle/maybe schnauzer mix? 17lbs and seems to be in pretty good health other than needing a spay and dental under all that hair. She’s distrustful of strangers and growly at first but warms up fast and we can tell there’s a sweet loyal girl under all that. Her son Gonzo (black) is about 18 months and the designated protector of the group, but warms up when separated from them and hanging with social dogs. He’s 17lbs with a fuzzy poodle coat. He definitely has no clue what a clipper is and was a bit freaked out so his shave down is being finished under anesthesia with his neuter. Finally baby daddy cream-colored Gelato is the sweetest and most adoption ready! He is about 20lbs, looks like a cockapoo type or mini doodle, sweet and likes other dogs, 2 1/2 years old. He was a good boy for his shave down and will be the first one available for adoption… the other 2 will need some time to chill out and make friends with us a bit more first. They will all do best adopted separately from each other and with another social doggie companion in the home. They do go to the bathroom outside when taken out and are learning to enjoy walks and the world outside their apartment. They are all being spayed/neutered immediately to make sure their breeding days are over, updated on shots, and other overdue medical care to prepare them for their new lives. Email njwoof@cs.com if interested in meeting any of these special neglected dogs in northern NJ when they are ready. Must go to homes that understand they will need grooming at least every 8 weeks longterm! Their medical bills and sedated shave down will likely be at least $1-2k but so worth it. We have been hit hard with so many new intakes just this past week alone, so any donations especially at this time are a huge help 🙏 Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.
