HOW TO ADOPT: This animal is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet this animal, please email meetme@arl-iowa.org.---- A lounger who can't get enough pets and wants to be touching his people at all times! - Likes toys and chews he can spending lots of time licking and chewing on; seems to prefer those to squeak or tug toys - Loves running around in his foster family's yard - Knows sit and shake, walks nicely on a leash, and is treat-motivated - Fully housetrained in his foster home and also does well in his crate; just remember that any dog may need time to get used to a new routine - Seems to feel more comfortable in his kennel/crate when his foster family is not home - His foster family says he tends to get nervous on car rides - Can be an introvert around other dogs and may prefer one-on-one interactions or smaller groups of dog friends who have a similar play style; may not be comfortable at dog parks or at large, dog-friendly events (dog intro recommended) - Young, noisy or busy children can be too much for him (mature home recommended) All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 85.5 Age: 3yrs 1mths 2wks

Story
Meet Misty! She's a smart lady who is smart as a whip! She's crate trained, mastered many commands (sit, down, off, mat, enough, go to your room, here, all done- more than most kids :). She loves to run, play fetch and be wherever you are! She's a year and a half old, and was lucky enough to have professional training donated to help her find her forever home. Whoever adopts her will receive at least one free hand off session from her trainer to help her transition go perfectly! Her ideal family would be somewhat active (she needs to run around a yard at least a few times per day). She gets along well with other dogs, but calmer dogs are best. Misty loves to play, but she can get very excited if the other dog is too energetic! She would do well with older children. Younger children and cats would require a lot of supervision. Her trainer thinks she would be a great agility dog, but she is smart enough to do anything you want to train her to do! She will require some active parenting to teach her the rules of your house, because she is so smart, she may try to make her own activities if nothing fun is provided! She's potty trained now (we had some overnight accidents until she started going in her crate at night). She's a great dog with a good head on her shoulders, and she wants to know if you are the one for her! $200 In State Adoption Fee (in Texas) $400 Out of State Fee (includes Transportation to your area) $50 Temporary fuel surcharge.

Story
Meet Moose, a 5-year-old Harlequin Great Dane with a heart (and bark!) as big as he is. When Moose arrived, he was living in rough conditions and weighed just 85 pounds — far below the healthy 120-150 pounds a Dane should be. With good care, love, and groceries, he’s been steadily gaining strength and confidence. Moose is a big dog with a big personality. He’s vocal and expressive, never shy about letting you know when it’s time for dinner or play. Beneath that deep bark is a gentle giant who loves rough-and-tumble play, tug-of-war, and quality time with his favorite people. Moose is looking for an experienced large-breed owner who understands the full “big dog package.” His adoption fee covers his vaccines, neuter, microchip, and health testing. If you’re ready for a loyal companion with plenty of love (and volume) to give — Moose is your guy.

Story
- Loves going on walks and does best with a harness- Knows sit and likes treats, so he'd be a lot of fun to train - Has been very good for baths here in the shelter - Tends to be introverted around other dogs and may prefer one-on-one interactions or smaller groups of dog friends; may not be comfortable in places where there are a lot of dogs and may prefer to be the only dog in his home (dog intro required) - Looking for a teens-and-up home right now- We don't know his history with cats - May have allergies (more info at ARL) This pet qualifies for our 7-day Foster-to-Adopt program. Story
Hi, I'm Micah! I'm around 10 weeks old and look to be an Anatolian Shepherd mix. I'm a sweet boy and can't wait to find my forever home. Are you who I'm searching for? If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2591844##
