Polaris' former owners were heartbroken to give him up as he's just the sweetest and most loving dog! Sadly, Polaris came to the shelter because one of his former owners is facing some serious health issues. They wanted to keep him, but they knew it wasn't possible, so they brought him to the shelter in the hopes that someone special would find him and give him a good home. Polaris is very friendly. He's a little overwhelmed to be here at the shelter because it's a big change, and he loves to be with his people, but he's been lovely with everyone here. He is a bit jumpy currently, but that can be helped with training and plenty of exercise. He just needs to have his needs met. Polaris is sweet with people, but since he's somewhat of a "bull in a china shop," we think he wouldn't do well with little kids; only sturdy older kids for this guy! A big dog might be a match (pending a dog meeting here at the shelter), but he'd be too much dog for a small dog). No cats for this guy! Polaris is so deserving of a good home.   Thor is a one-year-old Great Dane and Lab mix weighing 71 pounds, and his story already reads like the opening scene of a movie. Found running loose through a Tennessee neighborhood, this big, beautiful boy was moments away from tragedy when fate—and a young dog lover—stepped in. Twice Thor ran in front of her car, and instead of driving on, she stopped, opened her door, and called to him. Without hesitation, Thor leapt into the back seat as if he knew his life was about to change. And it did.   With no collar and no microchip, Thor became part of Critter Cavalry Rescue and stayed with the very woman who saved him. From the moment he was safe, his true nature began to shine. Thor is strikingly handsome, with chiseled features and expressive ears that nearly stand straight up, giving him a regal, alert look—like a show dog who wandered off the Westminster runway and into a superhero origin story.   But don’t let the model looks fool you. Thor is pure joy wrapped in a giant puppy body. He tosses toys into the air, pounces on squeaky treasures, and delights in balls and stuffed animals with the enthusiasm of a dog who is still discovering how fun life can be. He doesn’t quite realize how big or strong he is yet, but his heart is gentle and his spirit is eager.   Thor is intelligent, focused, and deeply people-oriented. When you work with him, he locks onto you completely, especially if treats are involved, which makes training both effective and fun. He is wonderful with other dogs, showing no dominance or alpha behavior, just friendly curiosity and easygoing charm. Recently neutered, Thor is still growing and will likely fill out into a solid 90-pound adult over the next year.   He is housebroken and currently learning that being alone doesn’t mean being abandoned, as crates aren’t quite his favorite place. Thor simply loves people and wants to be near them, soaking in companionship and reassurance. His liver-and-black coat shifts with the sunlight, turning heads wherever he goes, and making him unforgettable long after he’s passed by.   Thor is the kind of dog who comes into your life once and leaves a permanent mark on your heart. This boy needs structure, your confidence, and someone who can manage all 82 pounds of his enthusiasm when he’s excited. He has great basic leash skills and walks with purpose, and while it’s not common, he can still pull hard when he is eager to meet or greet. Because of that, Baloo is looking for a home with no small children and no physically limited handlers -not because he isn’t loving, but because he’s simply a whole lot of dog. He gets along well with other dogs who enjoy and can match his play style. He’s the “roughhousing in the yard” kind of guy -playful and physical, and so much fun to watch. When dogs are confident and enjoy that same type of play, he thrives. Baloo has made some wonderful dog friends who he plays beautifully with.
