Story
I’m a classic Great Dane, gentle, affectionate, and convinced I’m a lap dog despite my size! I love being close to my people and will happily lean in or offer the sweetest hugs when I’m looking for love (which is pretty often). I have a calm, easygoing personality and walk beautifully on a leash, making me a wonderful companion for relaxed strolls or cozy time at home. I’m happiest with people who enjoy a big, loving presence by their side. Like many dogs, I appreciate a little respect for my personal space, especially when it comes to being handled. I’m very good at communicating how I feel and just need someone who understands my cues and will give me a moment when I ask for it. Because of this, I’d do best in a home with adults or older, respectful kids who can give me that understanding. In return, I’ll be an incredibly loyal, loving companion, a true gentle giant ready to fill your home with warmth.

Story
LOCATION: Boerne, TXDOB: 06/06/2018Chloe Sunshine is a Great Dane mix whose journey into rescue began under incredibly hard circumstances. She came to us about six months ago after surviving on her own in a remote area of Texas, where she had to be humanely trapped so she could finally get the help she needed. At some point earlier in her life, Chloe survived distemper, which left her with a facial and mouth tic that doesn’t bother her at all. Her front teeth were severely worn, likely from trying to chew her way out of confinement, and she arrived malnourished, exhausted, and pregnant. Tragically, the puppies had passed before rescue, and Chloe required emergency surgery to save her life. Along with her spay, several damaged teeth were removed, and she began her long road to recovery with proper medical care, food, and rest. When Chloe first arrived in foster care, she was completely shut down and terrified of people. Her foster family gave her her own quiet room with soft beds, plenty of food and water, and even a TV to help her feel less alone. For the first few days, she stayed curled in the corner, freezing whenever someone entered, unsure of what might happen next. Her foster family allowed her all the time she needed, moving at her pace and asking nothing of her except to feel safe.Slowly, Chloe began to take brave steps forward. First she ventured outside on her own. Then she met the other dogs in the home, which turned out to be a huge breakthrough for her. Watching them helped her understand that she was safe, and before long she started leaving her room, joining the household, and learning how to be a dog again.Today, Chloe Sunshine is almost unrecognizable from the scared girl who first arrived. She plays with the other dogs, relaxes on the couch, seeks out snuggles, and happily enjoys her meals. She’s learning to walk on a leash and greets her foster mom with the sweetest little happy dance that perfectly fits her name. Over the holidays, she even stayed in a different home while her foster family was away. Though nervous at first, she quickly settled in, climbed onto the couch for pets, and by the end of the stay was happily dancing for her sitter too.Chloe has shown that she can adjust to new environments and continue to build trust, and she’s ready for a forever home of her own. She will do best with patient, gentle people who understand that her confidence was hard-won and deserves to be protected. Chloe Sunshine has endured more than most dogs ever should, and now she’s ready for a future filled with comfort, kindness, and the steady love she’s waited so long to find.========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176 .Note: SRGDRR adopts nationwide and offers transport options to help you find your perfect match! Story
LOCATION: Minden, LouisianaDOB: 06/15/2020How is Wilson still waiting for his forever home after 1,353 days in rescue? Three full years — 1,353 days of watching other dogs come and go — and somehow no one has stepped up for this incredibly special boy. It’s truly a mystery.Wilson, affectionately known as Willy, is the kind of dog who quietly steals your heart and never gives it back. This handsome black-and-white Great Dane with his freckled bib and soulful eyes has a way of shifting from adorably serious to playfully goofy in a split second. And then there are the famous “Willie wiggles” — his whole body sways with joy when he’s happy, and it’s enough to brighten even the hardest day.For the past three years, Willy has patiently waited for someone to see past his initial shyness and recognize the gentle, loyal soul underneath. His foster mom lovingly calls him her “baby doll” and “special boy,” and anyone who truly knows him understands why. He is submissive, tender-hearted, and deeply devoted once he trusts you. While he once preferred the company of women, he has grown tremendously in confidence and now relaxes around new people instead of retreating to his crate. He may observe quietly at first, but he wants to be near his people.Wilson’s quirky personality only adds to his charm. He’s a collector at heart — gathering toys, towels, shoes, or anything he considers valuable into his own little treasure pile. Crinkly toys are his absolute favorite and provide endless entertainment. Because of his love of “collecting,” he is crated when unsupervised to prevent any creative redecorating, but his house manners are otherwise wonderful. He is incredibly gentle with toddlers, does well with older, respectful children, and enjoys playing with other dogs. Cats? He happily ignores them, making him an easy addition to a feline-friendly home. He walks beautifully on leash and makes a wonderful walking companion. Car rides aren’t his favorite just yet, but he continues to improve with patience and encouragement.Willy is naturally a bit skittish and sensitive, so he will need a secure six-foot fence to ensure his safety. He thrives in a calm, loving environment where he can continue building confidence at his own pace. After 1,353 days in care, Wilson deserves more than just another tomorrow in rescue. He deserves a family who sees his softness as strength, who celebrates his quirky treasure hunts, and who understands that the best dogs are sometimes the ones who take a little longer to bloom. He has waited long enough.Wilson is ready to bring laughter, loyalty, and unconditional love to the family willing to finally say, “You’re coming home.”=========================To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form!https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176Note: Wilson must be adopted locally OR the adopter must be willing to drive to pick him up. He is too skittish to go commercial or be handed off to multiple drivers. For more information, please email us at rescueme@srgdrr.org. Story
LOCATION: Etters, PADOB: 07/19/2019Bubba is a gentle, sensitive Great Dane who is still learning that people can be kind. When he first arrived, he was timid and cautious, clearly carrying the weight of a rough past. Over time, he has started to show his sweet and goofy sides, especially when he’s with other dogs. Bubba feels most comfortable when he has canine friends around—he is respectful and playful with dogs of all ages and sizes, and he truly blossoms when he has a companion by his side.Outdoors is his happy place. He loves to roam the yard, run with the other dogs, or quietly watch the world from behind a shed or in his dog house. Indoors is harder for him, but he finds comfort in his kennel and sleeps peacefully through the night. Each morning feels like a fresh start, and with patience, you’ll see him warm up again as the day goes on. Bubba has even begun to find his voice—sometimes howling when left outside alone at night or “talking” at the back door when he wants some company.Despite his shyness, Bubba has the most tender personality. He leans into back scratches, runs and plays with a horse-like gait, and surprises his foster family with little glimpses of silliness that will make you smile. He startles easily with loud noises or sudden movements, and he isn’t a fan of car rides, but he tolerates them when needed. He’s still learning to trust people and may never be a dog who cuddles on the couch, but his gentle spirit and quiet presence are deeply endearing.Bubba is crate-trained, learning leash skills, and doing well with the routine at his foster home. He hasn’t shown much interest in chickens and may be fine with cats, though he hasn’t lived with them. He would do best in a calm home with no small children, a securely fenced yard, and another friendly dog to help him feel safe. His ideal family will be patient, understanding, and willing to let him progress at his own pace.If you’re looking for a dog who will touch your heart with his resilience, reward your kindness with trust, and bring gentle joy to your days, Bubba is waiting for you.========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176 .Note: SRGDRR adopts nationwide and offers transport options to help you find your perfect match!
