Story
I’m a classic Great Dane, gentle, affectionate, and convinced I’m a lap dog despite my size! I love being close to my people and will happily lean in or offer the sweetest hugs when I’m looking for love (which is pretty often). I have a calm, easygoing personality and walk beautifully on a leash, making me a wonderful companion for relaxed strolls or cozy time at home. I’m happiest with people who enjoy a big, loving presence by their side. Like many dogs, I appreciate a little respect for my personal space, especially when it comes to being handled. I’m very good at communicating how I feel and just need someone who understands my cues and will give me a moment when I ask for it. Because of this, I’d do best in a home with adults or older, respectful kids who can give me that understanding. In return, I’ll be an incredibly loyal, loving companion, a true gentle giant ready to fill your home with warmth.

Story
LOCATION: Boerne, TXDOB: 06/06/2018Chloe Sunshine is a Great Dane mix whose journey into rescue began under incredibly hard circumstances. She came to us about six months ago after surviving on her own in a remote area of Texas, where she had to be humanely trapped so she could finally get the help she needed. At some point earlier in her life, Chloe survived distemper, which left her with a facial and mouth tic that doesn’t bother her at all. Her front teeth were severely worn, likely from trying to chew her way out of confinement, and she arrived malnourished, exhausted, and pregnant. Tragically, the puppies had passed before rescue, and Chloe required emergency surgery to save her life. Along with her spay, several damaged teeth were removed, and she began her long road to recovery with proper medical care, food, and rest. When Chloe first arrived in foster care, she was completely shut down and terrified of people. Her foster family gave her her own quiet room with soft beds, plenty of food and water, and even a TV to help her feel less alone. For the first few days, she stayed curled in the corner, freezing whenever someone entered, unsure of what might happen next. Her foster family allowed her all the time she needed, moving at her pace and asking nothing of her except to feel safe.Slowly, Chloe began to take brave steps forward. First she ventured outside on her own. Then she met the other dogs in the home, which turned out to be a huge breakthrough for her. Watching them helped her understand that she was safe, and before long she started leaving her room, joining the household, and learning how to be a dog again.Today, Chloe Sunshine is almost unrecognizable from the scared girl who first arrived. She plays with the other dogs, relaxes on the couch, seeks out snuggles, and happily enjoys her meals. She’s learning to walk on a leash and greets her foster mom with the sweetest little happy dance that perfectly fits her name. Over the holidays, she even stayed in a different home while her foster family was away. Though nervous at first, she quickly settled in, climbed onto the couch for pets, and by the end of the stay was happily dancing for her sitter too.Chloe has shown that she can adjust to new environments and continue to build trust, and she’s ready for a forever home of her own. She will do best with patient, gentle people who understand that her confidence was hard-won and deserves to be protected. Chloe Sunshine has endured more than most dogs ever should, and now she’s ready for a future filled with comfort, kindness, and the steady love she’s waited so long to find.========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176 .Note: SRGDRR adopts nationwide and offers transport options to help you find your perfect match! Story
LOCATION: Etters, PADOB: 07/19/2019Bubba is a gentle, sensitive Great Dane who is still learning that people can be kind. When he first arrived, he was timid and cautious, clearly carrying the weight of a rough past. Over time, he has started to show his sweet and goofy sides, especially when he’s with other dogs. Bubba feels most comfortable when he has canine friends around—he is respectful and playful with dogs of all ages and sizes, and he truly blossoms when he has a companion by his side.Outdoors is his happy place. He loves to roam the yard, run with the other dogs, or quietly watch the world from behind a shed or in his dog house. Indoors is harder for him, but he finds comfort in his kennel and sleeps peacefully through the night. Each morning feels like a fresh start, and with patience, you’ll see him warm up again as the day goes on. Bubba has even begun to find his voice—sometimes howling when left outside alone at night or “talking” at the back door when he wants some company.Despite his shyness, Bubba has the most tender personality. He leans into back scratches, runs and plays with a horse-like gait, and surprises his foster family with little glimpses of silliness that will make you smile. He startles easily with loud noises or sudden movements, and he isn’t a fan of car rides, but he tolerates them when needed. He’s still learning to trust people and may never be a dog who cuddles on the couch, but his gentle spirit and quiet presence are deeply endearing.Bubba is crate-trained, learning leash skills, and doing well with the routine at his foster home. He hasn’t shown much interest in chickens and may be fine with cats, though he hasn’t lived with them. He would do best in a calm home with no small children, a securely fenced yard, and another friendly dog to help him feel safe. His ideal family will be patient, understanding, and willing to let him progress at his own pace.If you’re looking for a dog who will touch your heart with his resilience, reward your kindness with trust, and bring gentle joy to your days, Bubba is waiting for you.========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176 .Note: SRGDRR adopts nationwide and offers transport options to help you find your perfect match! Story
LOCATION: Terrell, TXDOB: 03/26/2024Meet Katie, a one-year-old fawn Great Dane with a delicate heart, puppy energy, and a personality as unique as her dainty “micro” frame. Weighing in at just 63 pounds due to poor early nutrition, Katie may be smaller than your typical Dane, but her spirit is just as big. Once she trusts you, she transforms into the ultimate cuddle bug—affectionate, goofy, and eager to be close.Katie’s world is still a little scary. After coming from the shelter, she’s learning that life can be kind, but she needs slow, patient introductions, especially with men. She doesn’t show aggression—no barking, growling, or snapping—but she will try to flee when overwhelmed. Because of this, Katie is muzzle trained and will need continued support building her confidence through consistent exposure and training. She absolutely thrives with other dogs and is very much a "dog’s dog." Katie shines when she has a playful companion to romp with, chase in the yard, and tug on ropes with. She’s currently living with four other Great Danes and does beautifully with all of them. A home with at least one playful, confident dog will help Katie continue learning how to be a dog and burn off that boundless puppy energy.String cheese is her currency of choice—though she won’t turn her nose up at most treats—and she responds well to gentle correction. She’s kennel trained, walks nicely on leash, and rides well in the car. House training is still in progress, and she’ll need frequent walks or mental stimulation to help keep her out of mischief.Katie is a prissy little thing, prancing when she runs and always perching her butt just off the ground when she sits—it’s adorable. While she hasn’t been cat-tested, she does seem to have a strong prey drive. She also hasn’t spent time around children, so older, dog-savvy kids who respect her space would be the best fit, if kids are in the picture at all.The perfect home for Katie is quiet and stable, with one or more playful dogs, no young children, and a large fenced yard where she can run and explore at her own pace. She needs someone with patience and a gentle approach, who understands that trust takes time—but once you earn it, Katie will give you her whole heart. She may be fearful now, but with the right support, Katie is ready to blossom into the happy, loving companion she was always meant to be.========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176 .Note: SRGDRR adopts nationwide and offers transport options to help you find your perfect match! Story
Meet Sangria (021D)Location: Fostered in Round Rock, TXDate of Birth: February 8, 2019Best suited as the only dog in the home. Cats are unknown.Sangria is a calm, affectionate, and elegant senior girl who is looking for a peaceful home where she can relax and be loved. She enjoys a slower pace of life and is happiest spending her days napping in a cozy spot, relaxing in the sunshine, or going for short walks. She also rides well in the car and enjoys quiet outings.Sangria truly loves people and has never met a stranger. She happily greets visitors and thrives on human attention. Her tall, graceful build makes her the perfect height for easy pets and gentle scratches, which she soaks up with enthusiasm. She enjoys being talked to and will respond with an excited wagging tail. One of her most charming quirks is her love for her pearl necklace — when asked if she wants to wear it, she will patiently stand and wait while it is put on.She has wonderful house manners. Sangria is house trained, walks nicely on leash, and is a polite and easy house guest. She prefers resting on her own comfortable bed and has not required crating in her foster home.Sangria lives with children between the ages of 4 and 11 and does very well with them. She enjoys gentle affection and quiet cuddle time. Because she is an older dog who prefers calm interactions, she would do best with respectful children who understand not to engage in rough play or jump on her. While Sangria can see other dogs on walks without issue, she prefers to keep her distance and would be happiest as the only dog in the home where she can enjoy being the center of attention. Cats are unknown.Sangria is currently undergoing treatment for heartworm and is also being treated for a bladder infection. Her future adopter will need to be committed to continuing her medical care and providing a low-stress environment while she completes treatment. Her ideal home would be one that offers a soft place to nap, short daily walks, time outdoors in a secure yard, and plenty of companionship. Sangria is a very loving and easygoing dog who is simply looking for a comfortable, stable home where she can feel safe and adored. If you are looking for a loyal, gentle companion who will bring calm and affection into your life, Sangria may be the perfect match.Adoption applications, donation options, and important links:https://linktr.ee/SrgdrrIf donating, please note who or what your donation is for.For more information, please email us at rescueme@srgdrr.org.
