Story
Meet Baxter — All Legs, Big Love & Just a Little Derpy Meet Baxter, a beautiful 14-month-old Great Dane who is basically all legs, a little derpy, and a WHOLE lot of love. Baxter is a big, goofy youngster who is still figuring out exactly where all those legs belong! He already has a great start on becoming an amazing adult dog. He knows sit, down, no, and shake, is kennel trained, and is potty trained when kept on a routine. Dogs? YES, PLEASE! Baxter LOVES other dogs and has a fun, energetic play style. He hasn't completely mastered the concept of personal space yet, so his ideal canine sibling would be a playful, confident dog who can match his energy and help remind him when enough is enough. He's also working on his leash manners. He does well, but when another dog appears, sometimes his excitement gets the better of him and he'll need a reminder that he's supposed to be paying attention to the human on the other end of the leash! Kids? He loves them! Baxter loves kids, but he's a very big, very enthusiastic young Dane who could easily send a little one flying without ever meaning to. A home with older or larger children would likely be his best fit. Cats? Jury's still out. Baxter has only met one cat. He politely went nose-to-nose to investigate. The cat gave him a swat, Baxter backed off…and then apparently decided, “OH! YOU WANT TO PLAY!” Cue the barking and play bows. So while there's no indication that Baxter meant any harm, we'd want to do additional cat testing before calling him officially cat-friendly. Fetch, Chase & THE PIG Baxter LOVES fetch and thinks being chased is one of life's greatest activities. But then there's the pig. Baxter has a favorite little pig toy that he apparently believes should accompany him everywhere. Adventures? Bring the pig. Hanging around the house? Pig. Important Dane business? Obviously, pig. We don't make the rules. â¤ï¸ A Few More Things About Our Boy Baxter has a history of a broken tail. His veterinarian has examined it, it's completely healed and causes him no problems whatsoever — it just left him with a slightly crooked tail that adds a little extra character to an already very character-filled dog. He's also currently a bit underweight, but otherwise he's a healthy, happy young Dane who just needs good nutrition, consistency, exercise, and time to finish growing into himself. Baxter is looking for a family who will appreciate his wonderfully ridiculous personality, give him appropriate outlets for all that youthful energy, continue working on his manners, and understand that giant-breed teenagers sometimes come with a little extra chaos. In return, you're getting a sweet, social, playful boy with long legs, a crooked tail, a beloved pig, and an enormous amount of love to give. If you've been waiting for a giant, goofy best friend to make you laugh every single day, Baxter might just be your boy.
