Story
Meet Katja! Katja is a sweet Great Pyrenees who may be a little shy around new people, but once she gets to know you, her playful and happy personality shines through. She loves attention and enjoys being pampered in the grooming room. Katja walks well on a leash and truly enjoys her daily walks, making her a wonderful companion for outdoor adventures. She would thrive in a home where she can build confidence at her own pace and be part of a loving, patient family. A meet and greet at the shelter is required with any other dogs in the home to ensure a smooth and happy transition. ------ Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog’s individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is a truly rewarding experience. To learn more about mill dogs and start the adoption process, visit our website!

Story
Sarge is a 3-year-old, 63 pound Great Pyrenees mix who is looking for a calm, patient home where he can feel safe and secure. He can be reserved in new situations and needs time to adjust to unfamiliar surroundings, but with consistency and understanding, his true personality begins to shine. Sarge would do best in a quiet environment with people who are willing to move at his pace and give him the space he needs to build confidence. He also needs another confident dog already established in the home to help guide him and provide reassurance as he settles in. Once comfortable, Sarge shows his loyal and gentle nature and forms strong bonds with those he trusts. If there is a dog already in the home, a meet and greet at the shelter will be required to ensure it’s a good fit for everyone. Sarge is searching for a home that will offer patience, stability, and kindness, allowing him the time he needs to feel comfortable and thrive. With the right match, he will be a devoted and loving companion. ------ Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Story
On July 14, 2025 we adopted Allie from Humane Colorado in Alamosa. She was said to be an Australian Shepherd/Australian Cattle Mix. She was 10 weeks old and weighed 8 pounds. She was an affectionate dog from the get go and we bonded instantly. We were told that her expected full grown weigh would be about 40 pounds which we felt was perfect for us. She is smart, affectionate and a real cuddle bug. We fell in love with her. We decided to have her DNA tested and not quite believing the results had it done a second time by a different company. The results showed that she was about 40% Great Pyrenees, 30% Australian Cattle dog, 20% St Bernard and 10% German Shepherd with an expected full-grown weight of 70 plus pounds. We were surprised and felt somewhat mislead that we now had a dog twice the size that we bargained for. The Great Pyrenees is a herding dog. They are strong, intelligent, protective, needs a job but can be gentle and calm around the people they love. Can provide added info.
