Story
🐶 The Twelve Dogs of Christmas – Day 2: Ranger 🎄On the second dog of Christmas, the season brought to us… a gentle giant fella of fluff. 🎅Hello. I’m Ranger.I’m a big, calm Pyrenees with a quiet way of moving through the world. The people here say I’m “every Pyr lover’s dream." I think that means I’m steady, polite, and full of soft fur and softer feelings, at least, that's how I see myself and people tend to like me.Shelter life is loud and bright, and I don’t quite fit the pace here. I’m the kind of dog who likes slow mornings, watching trees sway, and leaning all of my 80 pounds gently against the person I love. I give what humans call "gentle hugs" occasionally. When I stand up, I’m eye-to-eye with the humans, and I wrap my paws around them like we’ve known each other forever. I only do it when they’re leaving me in my run because I so desperately don't want them to.💔I’ve been very clean in my kennel, and I try my best to hold it until I get outside. The volunteers say that probably means I’m housebroken. I don’t bark much. I listen more than I speak. And when I look at you, I really mean it.I talked to this big jolly red dude today whom I heard them call "Santa".🎅 He whispered to me how beautiful I am and called my eyes soulful. He told me I'm a gentle soul in a loud world right now, and I leaned into him...my new friend who understood. With my eyes, I communicated my one wish. A home who will love me and understand my guardian needs to protect my flock...my family. If what you want for Christmas is a calm companion - the kind who walks beside you, rests at your feet, and makes your whole house feel peaceful - I would love to be that dog.🐶I’m three years old.💗I’m 80 pounds of gentleness.🏠And I’m ready to go home.Love,RangerCome by the Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter and ask staff to help you meet Ranger, Wednesday-Saturday, 12-5pm or Sunday, 12-4pm. We are open intake, meaning we can not turn away animals from either county we serve. Our shelter intakes double or triple it's capacity every month so it is essential we place animals quickly into adoptive homes. Since so many animals enter the shelter we often don't have enough volunteers to write an individual bio for each. Please feel free to call the shelter Wednesday-Sunday to inquire about the animal you are interested in. 706-795-2868.Viewing and adoption hours at our shelter are Wednesday through Sunday from 12 PM to 5 PM.
