Story
Miley’s Christmas Wish: A Home That Understands Her Heart Miley’s past wasn’t easy. She carries scars you can’t see—ones that shaped how she connects with the world. Because of that, she needs to be an only pet, or placed with someone experienced and committed to rotating animals and following the free training that comes with her adoption. But here’s the magic: once Miley trusts you, she’s a total love bug, gentle and affectionate. You will have to earn it and be patient, and no small children! She just needs someone who sees past the surface and believes in second chances. She’s waiting for her person. Could it be you? Www.barktownrescue.org/adoptThe shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at the dog's predominant breed or breed mix. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess.    Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up.  All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Portions of your adoption fee also help care for the sick and injured animals that we take in.  Thank you for supporting us and considering a rescue dog!    December 23, 2025, 4:08 pm

Story
A man was walking around Walmart parking lot with puppies. Kai looked terrible. He smelled, had the worse case of fleas I’ve ever seen and was dripping wet. I don’t know what he’d been through up to that point but he was scared of everything. He still is. Men in particular. He needs someone who is patient and loving and willing to give him the good soft life he deserves. He got parvo when he was almost 1 year old and he pulled through. Lots of prayers and fluids later he was back to his sweet self. He survived so much. I wish I could give him the life he deserves but I’m facing homelessness and I’m afraid he will crated for longer than I’m ok with. Kai will be 3 in August. He still has a lot of puppy and so much love to offer.

Story
Meet Rocky!Breed: Great PyreneesAge: 4.5 yearsWeight: 64lbsRocky came to us in rough shape—his coat was severely matted, and he clearly hadn’t known much kindness. But with some much-needed TLC and a full grooming, this beautiful boy is starting to shine, inside and out. Though he’s still a bit shy about being outside (the world can be a big, scary place when you`re just learning to trust it), Rocky is truly one of the sweetest dogs you`ll ever meet. He’s a calm, gentle soul who doesn’t pull on the leash, gets along well with other dogs, and gives off major teddy bear energy. Rocky is looking for a patient, loving home where he can continue to heal and build confidence at his own pace. He’s already come so far, and with just a little more love, he’s going to blossom into the loyal, affectionate companion he was always meant to be.Health: Rocky is neutered, up-to-date on all his vaccinations, heart worm negative, and microchipped.Adoption Fee: Rocky`s adoption fee is $80, not including applicable licensing fees.Contact Us: If you`re interested in him, please contact the New Albany Animal Shelter at 812-948-5355 to schedule a meet-and-greet.**Please complete the ADOPTION APPLICATION on our website, under the Public Forms tab; NOT the orange `Interested in this animal` Petango link.**

Story
Dolly is a 3yr female Great Pyrenees mix at about 85lbs and Dixie (Dolly's daughter) is a 2yr female Great Pyrenees mix at about 56lbs and these girls are looking for their new forever family. They are being surrendered to GRRAND as their people can not financially afford the girls, and sadly feel  it is best for them to go to a home where they will get all of the care they need.  They are house-trained and have full roam of the house when left alone and they also get along with other dogs. These girls will need a home with a fenced in yard as their Great Pyrenees instincts to protect and patrol are done best in the confines of a secure and safe fenced in yard. These girls have been together since Dixie was born and they are BFF's, so need to stay together. We are told: " Dolly and her daughter Dixie are both sweethearts. Dolly is a mother by nature and wants to lick up and take care of all dogs that come into the house. Her favorite place to be is outside, whereas Dixie loves to be inside. They are both people and dog friendly and I have had a cat and they both were okay with the cat. Dolly has longer hair and has more pyrenees, whereas her daughter Dixie has shorter hair and looks more like a lab."   As we learn more we will update, but if you would like to inquire about Dolly and Dixie, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org ##2041630##
