Story
Meet Ralphie! Ralphie is one of those dogs that simply wants to be close to his people. This handsome boy came to Day of the Dogs from the Chillicothe Animal Shelter, where he spent far too much of his life waiting for someone to notice him. For a period of time, Ralphie was housed in a small pop-up kennel in the shelter lobby before eventually being moved back to a regular run. Through it all, he never lost his sweet, loving personality. One of Ralphie's favorite things to do is simply be with you. He'll happily come over, lean against your legs, or sit right on your feet, as if to say, "I'm good right here." He's affectionate without being demanding and has the kind of gentle presence that makes you feel instantly connected. Ralphie also gets along wonderfully with other dogs. We've had him in playgroups with dogs of all sizes, and he has done great. He's now thriving in foster care and attending daycare, where he continues to show everyone what an easygoing, social boy he is. Whether you're looking for a walking buddy, a couch companion, or just a loyal friend to share everyday life with, Ralphie is ready for the job. After spending so much time waiting, Ralphie is finally experiencing life outside the shelter. Now all he needs is one last thing—a family to call his own. If you're looking for a sweet, affectionate dog who just wants to love and be loved, Ralphie is waiting to meet you. Basics: He is a neutered male guessed to be around 3 yrs old and weighs close to 50lbs. He is currently in a foster in Lenexa, KS and attends doggy daycare on a daily basis Adoption Process: - STEP 1: Please fill out our adoption application: https://www.dayofthedogs.org/adoption-application - One of our team members will get back to you via phone. - Our dogs can be seen by appointment only. We do not have a facility at this time. Dogs are in foster homes or boarding - Adoption fee helps to cover transport costs, spay/neuter, initial vaccines, rabies, fecal, initial worming, and microchip. -We do not place holds on our dogs. Please do not contact us until you are prepared to adopt. NOTE: We are very good about updating the pet's profiles once adopted. So no need to write us to ask "Is he/she still available?" If the post is up, the dog is still available. About Day of the Dogs Day of the Dogs is a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping shelter and rescue dogs find safety, families, and second chances. Founded in 2015 by a Kansas City native, Day of the Dogs began after Pam moved to Houston, Texas and witnessed firsthand the devastating shelter overcrowding crisis facing southern communities, where some shelters have only days to find an outcome for homeless pets. Today, Day of the Dogs coordinates life-saving transports from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and other southern areas to rescue partners, shelters, fosters, and adopters in Northwest Indiana/Chicagoland and the Kansas City region — communities where adoption demand can help create better outcomes for pets in need. We also focus on long stay dogs in the Greater Kansas City and surrounding rural areas to help those pets get out of kennels and into homes. We also facilitate direct adoptions through our foster networks in both Kansas City and Northwest Indiana and partner with shelters and rescue organizations across Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, and Indiana to save more lives together. Because every open foster home creates another opportunity to save a dog, we are always looking for foster families to join our mission. Day of the Dogs operates entirely on donations. Every transport, veterinary appointment, supply purchase, and life saved is possible because of supporters who believe every dog deserves a chance. Donate or learn more: www.dayofthedogs.org

Story
Freya is a Doberman/Great Pyrenees mix with a sweet and silly personality. She is incredibly smart, easy to train, and very loyal to the people she loves. She loves long walks, camping, and basking in the sun during the summertime. She would do very well with an active owner as she is a big girl with a lot of energy. She is very loving, and despite her size, she is a great snuggler. Freya will thrive in a home where she is the only pet and gets lots of exercise.Freya struggles with resource guarding around other dogs in her home. We have an older dog that we had before Freya and we are at a point where she is instigating fights with him when he gets too close to her toys or her space. She is stronger than him and has injured him a few times, and this is why we are choosing to rehome her. She does great at doggy daycare, boarding, and even with other dogs out at the lake. This issue seems to be strictly within her own space, and we think she would do best as the only dog in the home.

Story
Remi is a sweet beautiful and affectionate family dog. She has been outside but brought in at night in a kennel in the garage. She would love to be inside and rubbed on even more. She's very loving and loves to be free and run. You would need some yard space or a privacy fence. She's jumped our chain link fence a couple times just wanting to be closer to where we are. She is a great guard dog but not over vocal. She loves kids and other dogs. She is 5 years old. We have some family medical issues and financial strain otherwise we wouldn't consider letting her go.Reach out, we would love for you to meet her!

Story
A very sweet girl that loves her humans. We got her as a rehome about 3 months ago, but she just doesn’t get along with our other dog. She came from a small farm, but for us she is just a pet. Up to date on everything, microchipped, all shots. No fee, just want to see her in a good spot. In her previous them had male dogs and there weren’t issues.
