Are you looking for a 125 pound lap dog? What about a protector from the big bad wolf? And don't forget a gigantic hairball on four legs! If you know Great Pyrenees, then you know they are all of the above, if not more. Argus can be a real sweetheart with the people he knows but he does need time if he doesn't know you. Argus loves to be outside in any kind of weather and loves long walks and loves laying next to his favorite person getting lots of loving. I can't stress enough that he is a very big, very strong boy and it would be advisable if you have had experience with such a breed. If interested, please fill out a preliminary at odas.org/canine and someone will contact you to schedule your visit.

Story
Ducky is an 11-month-old Pyrenees mix with a big heart and an even bigger love for life. He’s dog-friendly and enjoys having canine buddies, though his enthusiasm can be a bit much for more laid-back dogs—he’d do best with a tolerant playmate or a family willing to help him polish his social skills.Ducky is very food-motivated, which makes him a great candidate for training and learning new things. He can be slightly apprehensive when meeting new people at first, but he warms up quickly and enjoys attention and affection. Once he knows you, he’s all about the pets and love. He’s also a fan of toys and chew items, especially nylabones, which kept him happily occupied during some downtime. If you’re looking for a young, playful, and loving dog with lots of potential, Ducky might be the perfect addition to your familyIf interested please visit odas.org/canine and someone will contact you to schedule your visit.

Story
Lola is a playful, friendly, and active pup with a big personality and an even bigger love for fun! She is happiest when busy chewing on her toys or proudly 'redecorating' her stuffies, so durable, hard toys are a must for this energetic girl. Lola enjoys her meals and special treats and does best with supervised mealtimes and continued positive, reward-based training to help her shine. She is selective with her dog friends, not a fan of cats, and does best with older children who can match her energy and respect her space. The perfect home for Lola would be one that embraces her playful spirit and enjoys an active, engaging companion. She will thrive with adopters who can provide structure, consistency, and fun enrichment such as walks, playtime, and training games. Lola would love to be the star of the show in a home with patient humans who understand her boundaries and cheer her on as she continues to learn and grow.Lola is ready and waiting to bring joy, laughter, and lots of tail wags to a loving home that is ready for her vibrant personality!Lola is one year old and weighs 61 pounds. Lola's adoption fee is being sponsored by KML Remodeling. All pets are microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and will be altered prior to adoption. If you are interested in meeting a dog, please stop by the shelter during open hours. Dogs may be in a foster home, therefore scheduling an appointment is recommended. If you have an existing dog at home, we recommend bringing it along to meet your possible new family member.helpingstrays.org

Story
Handsome Adak, pronounced “ay-dack,” was named after an island in Alaska. Adak was a stray at a shelter that no one claimed. A happy boy that loves attention from his people, Adak will come over to you just to be petted. And if you sit or lie down on the floor he will be right next to you. He is a little reserved when first meeting a new person, but once you’re in his pack, he will be your best friend. Adak is a smart boy who knows some basic commands. This may have something to do with being very treat motivated. He is also a counter surfer so keep your counters clean! An energetic boy, Adak requires 1-2 daily walks; and he enjoys patrolling the backyard at his foster home. Adak also takes time out for a good nap. He enjoys the companionship of other dogs and would be very happy to have a female playmate in his furever home that matches his energy. He does fine with dog friendly cats. Adak is crate trained and rides great in the car. He walks pretty well on a leash until he sees something he wants to go see and then he pulls some in excitement. We think Adak is a Maremma Sheepdog, a livestock guardian breed similar to a Great Pyrenees. At 1.5 years old, he weighs about 80 lbs. He is neutered, up to date on core vaccines and up to date on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. Adoption Requirements *A minimum 5 ft fence *A home visit *Children in the home should be 12+ *A vet check with at least a two year vet history Adopters can be located in Missouri and surrounding states: Kansas, Arkansas, Nebraska, Iowa, and Illinois. We are able to help transport to those states.

Story
Meet Howie, a Pyrfect puppy who is happy, playful and affectionate. He is the last of his siblings still available for adoption. Howie is part of the West Plains, MO litter that was abandoned outside when their owner passed away. In his foster home, Howie has become quite confident, you show him how to do something and he'll get right in trying to learn. He's very good at reading cues from other dogs and cats, playful when they allow and will back off if they don’t want to play. Howie has a good appetite and is just enough food motivated to work for a treat. Watch out for his big Pyr paw! He is going through a teething phase and wants to steal everything to chew but does respond well to correction. Howie is 100% potty trained and walks pretty well on a leash. All in all you could not ask for a better puppy! Howie is 6 months old and weighs about 55 lbs. He is up to date on core vaccines, microchipped and up to date on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. Howie will be adopted on a spay/neuter contract with adopter promising to neuter at 1 year old and must provide vet records at that time. Howie is being fostered in Columbia, MO Adoption Requirements *A secure & visible fence *A home visit *A vet check with at least a two year vet history Adopters can be located in Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, and Arkansas. We are able to help transport to those states.
