Story
🐾 Meet Minnie – A Gentle Great Pyrenees Mix Searching for Her Forever Home 🐾 Minnie is a 1-year-old Great Pyrenees mix with a soft heart and an even softer soul. Her story began when she was found abandoned as a young puppy in the country, wandering until she landed at a home that took her in. While they meant well, as Minnie grew and her Great Pyrenees instincts kicked in, it became clear that her needs were more than they could manage. Like many livestock-guardian-type dogs, Minnie has a tendency to roam, and with limited time to devote to training and supervision, her owners felt they couldn’t give her the structure she deserved. After having a litter of puppies—who have all since been weaned and placed into homes—Minnie was surrendered to us so she could have the opportunity to find a more suitable, long-term situation. Although she has been living primarily outdoors recently, her previous family reports that Minnie is house trained. She has been around other dogs and does well with them, and she has shown no issues around cats. She seems to be socially appropriate, gentle, and easygoing with other animals. Personality-wise, Minnie is truly a sweetheart. She can be shy and a bit timid at first, especially in the shelter environment, which can be overwhelming for a sensitive young dog. However, once she has a little time to settle in, her affectionate and loyal nature starts to shine. She doesn’t take long to warm up—she just needs someone willing to move at her pace and offer reassurance. Minnie would thrive in a home that understands large-breed and guardian-dog tendencies, ideally with a solid containment plan and a commitment to giving her both guidance and companionship. With patience, consistency, and love, Minnie has all the potential to blossom into a devoted, steady companion. She’s still young, eager to please, and ready to learn—she just needs someone willing to give her the chance she’s been waiting for. 💛

Story
Meet Knox, a Great Pyrenees weighing approximately 115 lbs- a true gentle giant to say the least. His endearing nature is particularly touching considering his special need - he is deaf. Despite his hearing impairment, Knox is a happy and easy-going guy. His sweet and mild nature instantly warms the hearts of those around him. However, he DOES NOT like sharing his food with people or animals, becoming very defensive and possessive. Feeding time for Knox should look like this...fed alone in a room with a closed door and not let out until he's done eating. Knox must be the only dog in the household and needs a household without children.Knox's ideal forever home is one that recognizes and embraces his distinctive qualities. Patience, understanding, and unconditional love are the pillars of the home he seeks, where he can navigate life with the gentle guidance needed to thrive. Be it leisurely strolls in nature or cozy evenings at home, Knox is ready to share his heart and sweet spirit he will bring to his forever home.If you're ready to welcome Knox into your life, come meet him, and embark on a journey filled with love, laughter, and the delightful sound of endless tail wags. Story
Hi, I'm Luna Bear! I'm a 8 year old Great Pyrenese mix. I'm an older lady and have been in the shelter system for almost 3 years...I'm a lady of leisure and independence. I appreciate my own space, and while I may not be the life of the dog park, I offer a mellow companionship that's hard to find. I prefer a quiet home where I can relax and be myself. I'm not one for other dogs or cats, but I promise to fill your life with a unique kind of love. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2225509##
