Story
Hi! I`m Sheldon, your future best friend wrapped in fur. I love being a part of the human pack, and while I am leery of strangers at first, a few treats will warm me over quickly! I`m a dream on a leash, happy to trot along at your side without pulling. I`m also a pretty quiet guy - no barking at shadows or the wind, but if something really matters, I`ll make sure you know.Think of me like a loveable student that`s eager to learn - sometimes I make mistakes just like humans do, and I need a little patience and grace as I adjust to a new home and new rules. I have a huge heart, and with time and positive reinforcement (and treats!), I know I can be the companion you dream of. If you`re looking for a quiet, affectionate, goofy guy who just wants to be your best friend, I`m ready to meet you!I am older kid friendly (ages 12+) and would love to meet any potential canine siblings before I would join your household.

Story
Minerva is a sweet 2 year old, 120lb Great Pyrenees mix whose equal parts playful, smart, and lovable. This outdoor-loving girl enjoys fresh air and adventure! She’s a joy to be around and loves learning new things — from commands to fun enrichment games that keep her mind busy and happy. While Minerva absolutely adores people she’s familiar with, she has some stranger danger and can be nervous when first meeting someone new. With a bit of patience, her affectionate and loyal personality really shines through. With her size, she is best suited for a home without small children. If you’re looking for a bright, fun-loving companion who will bring lots of joy (and cuddles!) into your life, Minerva is ready to meet you and become part of your family. Story
Meet Luna! Luna is a 3-year-old Great Pyrenees with a heart as big as her fluffy frame. She came to us after being placed in the care of a previous owner by a relative—but it simply wasn’t a good fit. Not a single ounce of fault lies with Luna; the previous family had been hoping for a small dog, and instead they were gifted this gentle giant. Now, Luna is searching for a home that will truly value her, treasure her, and give her the love she deserves. True to her breed, Luna embodies the classic Great Pyrenees personality: calm, gentle, and affectionate. She’s a soft soul who loves being around people and enjoys the comfort of an indoor life, despite her heritage as a livestock guardian breed. Luna has been exposed to dogs, cats, children, and even livestock—and she has always shown herself to be composed, patient, and friendly. Luna is house trained, rides well in the car, and is eager to find a family who will include her in daily life. Her gentle nature, loyalty, and soft-hearted personality make her an ideal companion for a family ready to embrace the joys of a true Great Pyrenees. If you’re looking for a loving, calm, and devoted furry friend, Luna might just be your perfect match.

Story
🐾 Meet Minnie – A Gentle Great Pyrenees Mix Searching for Her Forever Home 🐾 Minnie is a 1-year-old Great Pyrenees mix with a soft heart and an even softer soul. Her story began when she was found abandoned as a young puppy in the country, wandering until she landed at a home that took her in. While they meant well, as Minnie grew and her Great Pyrenees instincts kicked in, it became clear that her needs were more than they could manage. Like many livestock-guardian-type dogs, Minnie has a tendency to roam, and with limited time to devote to training and supervision, her owners felt they couldn’t give her the structure she deserved. After having a litter of puppies—who have all since been weaned and placed into homes—Minnie was surrendered to us so she could have the opportunity to find a more suitable, long-term situation. Although she has been living primarily outdoors recently, her previous family reports that Minnie is house trained. She has been around other dogs and does well with them, and she has shown no issues around cats. She seems to be socially appropriate, gentle, and easygoing with other animals. Personality-wise, Minnie is truly a sweetheart. She can be shy and a bit timid at first, especially in the shelter environment, which can be overwhelming for a sensitive young dog. However, once she has a little time to settle in, her affectionate and loyal nature starts to shine. She doesn’t take long to warm up—she just needs someone willing to move at her pace and offer reassurance. Minnie would thrive in a home that understands large-breed and guardian-dog tendencies, ideally with a solid containment plan and a commitment to giving her both guidance and companionship. With patience, consistency, and love, Minnie has all the potential to blossom into a devoted, steady companion. She’s still young, eager to please, and ready to learn—she just needs someone willing to give her the chance she’s been waiting for. 💛

Story
Hi, I'm Luna Bear! I'm a 8 year old Great Pyrenese mix. I'm an older lady and have been in the shelter system for almost 3 years...I'm a lady of leisure and independence. I appreciate my own space, and while I may not be the life of the dog park, I offer a mellow companionship that's hard to find. I prefer a quiet home where I can relax and be myself. I'm not one for other dogs or cats, but I promise to fill your life with a unique kind of love. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2225509##
