Gretel – Ready for Her Fresh StartGretel is an approximately 3.5-year-old Great Pyrenees mix who has been patiently waiting for her turn. She joined FMAR in August after a challenging chapter in her life and has spent the last several months showing us just how resilient, happy, and loving she truly is. Now, she’s finally ready for a home of her own.This big-hearted girl is incredibly friendly and always happy to see her people. True to her Pyrenees roots, Gretel is slightly obsessed with being outside and loves having space to explore and relax. She does well on her own or alongside her “brother” Hansel (not biologically related), and would be happy as a solo dog or with the right canine companion.Gretel does wonderfully in her kennel—she keeps it clean, follows a solid routine, and settles in nicely. She enjoys soft, stuffy toys and hard bones inside, but outdoors she’s more focused on her surroundings than toys. She has a strong, confident bark that lets you know when something new has entered her space, making her an excellent alert dog.Gretel’s ideal home would offer a very large outdoor area where she can spend much of her day enjoying the sights, sounds, and smells around her. She is not your typical “fetch-and-frisbee” dog, but she would still do well with a family who understands and appreciates her independent, guardian-style personality. He goes outside in the morning and before bedtime, sleeps through the night, and is great about letting you know when he needs to go out.When Hubbard comes over and stares at you, it usually means one of three things: he needs to go outside (he’ll spin in happy circles if you ask), he wants a gentle face massage, or he’s ready to play.He enjoys relaxed playtime—tossing his toys, flopping onto his back, chasing his tail, or playing “I’m gonna git you” in the yard. Snow is a favorite. Like Gretel, he came from a tough start, but since being in care, Hansel has grown into a lovable, silly, and devoted companion.While he looks a bit more like a classic Pyrenees than Gretel, Hansel is far less of the typical guardian breed. He’s delightfully derpy—often running and barking at the wind or a falling leaf—then plopping down to rest his giant head in your lap for some serious snuggles.Hansel walks beautifully on leash and adores Gretel, his “not bio sister.” He would do well in many types of homes, from active families to quiet ones, as long as he has space to roam. True to her Pyrenees roots, Scarlett loves spending time outside and soaking in the world around her.When it comes to playtime, Scarlett has her own style. She enjoys tennis balls, but instead of traditional fetch, she prefers a game of keep-away or entertaining herself nearby. Her big, happy smile and constantly wagging tail make it clear she’s enjoying every moment.Scarlett has shown interest in interacting with calmer, lower-energy dogs, though we are still learning more about her preferences.
