Story
Hi, I’m Sly! I’m a 2-year-old boy who’s still learning what it means to just be a dog. I came to the shelter from Tennessee, and it’s clear I didn’t get many chances before now to explore toys, learn commands, or discover how fun life can be. I might seem a little shy at first, but give me some time and I promise I’m worth the wait! I’m a mellow, gentle guy. I don’t bark in my kennel, I walk nicely on a leash, and I’m calm and easy to be around. I like affection and will happily soak it up! I’ll even come ask for it myself once I’m feeling comfortable! I’m just quietly taking everything in and learning as I go. I think I’d do best in a calm, loving home — especially one with another friendly dog who can show me the ropes! Respectful children would be great too, as long as they understand that I’m still building confidence and learning new things. If you’re looking for a sweet, steady companion who doesn’t need to be the center of attention but will quietly choose you as his person, I might be your guy! I’m ready to learn, grow, and finally enjoy life by your side! Primary Color: Cream Weight: 58.6 Age: 2yrs 0mths 0wks

Story
Hi, I'm Mouse - a quiet, gentle girl who's learning what it means to feel safe and loved. I came from a hoarding situation in Texas, where I likely lived outside with very little human interaction. Life was pretty scary and uncertain back then, but since arriving here, I've started to discover that people can be kind and that it feels nice to be cared for. I'm still a timid soul and can be unsure in new situations, but I'm slowly gaining confidence every day. I don't usually come running up for attention just yet, but if you move slowly and speak softly, I'll gladly accept gentle pets and reassurance. I feel safest when things are calm and quiet, and I'm especially comforted by calm voices and patient people. I'm still learning how to walk on a leash, and I'm not quite interested in toys or treats right now - I'm taking things one step at a time. I'd do best in a peaceful home with respectful children who understand that I need a little extra patience. I might also do well with another calm, confident dog who can show me the ropes and help me feel more secure. If you have a soft spot for shy dogs and the patience to help me bloom, I know I'll reward you with quiet loyalty and a gentle heart. I'm Mouse - a little shy right now, but with love and time, I'll be your devoted friend for life.*Mouse is currently staying in a wonderful foster home! Please ask to meet with her today! Story
Some dogs just get it—they move through the world with quiet grace, calm energy, and the kind of loyal heart that makes every day better. That’s Wanda. This girl is the total package when it comes to manners and home life. She’s fully housebroken, sleeps quietly in her crate, walks beautifully on leash, and doesn’t chew or destroy things in the home. She thrives on routine, is affectionate without being clingy, and will quietly lay nearby while you work, relax, or move through your day. She has a love for adventure, particularly water, long hikes, and car rides!! Wanda is friendly and social with dogs out in the world. But when it comes to her home space, she prefers a quieter life where she doesn’t have to share her people. She’ll do best as the only dog in the home, where she can be your loyal companion and soak up all the love for herself. Wanda is not a fan of cats as she’s a bit too curious. A feline-free home is a must. A fenced yard would be a nice bonus for Wanda, but it's not required. What Wanda really wants is a steady, loving home where she can finally relax and be part of a family... her family. Apply online: HBWI.org. FEE INCLUDES: Adopting an adult dog (6 months or older) includes spaying/neutering, vaccinations, deworming, flea & tick prevention, heartworm testing, and microchipping. For dogs under 6 months, they receive age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, flea/tick prevention, and microchipping. All dogs are spayed/neutered by 6 months, covered within the adoption fee. The procedure must be done at one of our partner clinics. To begin the adoption process, please submit an application on our website: www.hbwi.org/adopt. Once approved, you'll have the opportunity to meet our available dogs. Following the meeting, you can initiate a 5-day Adoption Trial, allowing you to take the dog home. This trial period is designed to ensure the dog is a match for you and aligns with your lifestyle. After the 5-day trial, if all goes well, the adoption will be finalized. Additionally, we require a home visit once the dog is settled in its new home to ensure a smooth transition for both the dog and the adopter.
