Story
Nikki IS AVAILALBE (updated 09-21-2023).To meet any of our dogs you must first complete our online adoption application on our website. For more information and the adoption application for Nikki, please visit our website belowhttp://www.coastalgsr.org/dog_profile.php?ID=22515&name=NikkiNikki is a mixed breed dog, approximately 1 year old, that came to Coastal GSR from the Coachella Shelter after being found in a field with her siblings. The shelter called them &#39Shepherd mixes&#39 but if you look at Nikki, you might see more Greyhound or Whippet in her than Shepherd. Nikki is long, tall, and very lean. Nikki will probably not grow any taller but she may fill out some more. She has giant ears that want to stand up so desperately but mostly just flop. She has a voracious appetite and is very food motivated, which helps with training. She is fun, fearless, and fast. She is very alert and an adventurer but she can also be sweet and affectionate. Nikki goes hard, runs fast, and crashes hard too. Nikki is sharp - she learns new tricks and commands easily and she is adaptable.Nikki is housetrained and also crate trained. A real plus to help Nikki settle into your life would be to have a large yard for her to sprint around in and another young dog to play with. That would be heaven for her. If you are looking for a young dog/puppy to be your companion in the wilderness, on hiking trails, or just play in your yard with you and your dog - come meet Nikki! The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible. The adoption donation provides that all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis ( i.e., puppies who will need to be altered by 6 mos old). Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.September 21, 2023, 6:31 am

Story
I was spotted running scared off a freeway and on the hills wearing a shiny new harness but didn't know people were trying to help so ran.  After several weeks of posts looking for who might be missing me or see me again, I showed up without my harness and even more scared.  Some great people put food out.  I stayed a day or two but left again.  Another month later, I came back and.was humanely trapped.  Despite my harness in the beginning and a diligent search for an owner, no one came to claim me during my stray processing.  The more shocking part is that I am just a big puppy, at only about a year old, and at some point someone loved me.  I LOVE people, including kids, know tricks and think life is a party.  I may have been scared on my own but definitely knew a family.  I am the one pushed to the front to say hello when kids come by at events.  I have a silly goofy side that fits perfectly with my expressive eyes and wrinkly brows.  I am a BIG lanky girl and still growing so I'll need someone willing to fine tune my learning and leash skills.  I am eager to please and will do ANYTHING for food so a blank slate for you to write my future.  I am still trying to figure out the dog thing but want to play but admittedly am socially stupid:). Can you be that person to help me learn and love my antics, tricks and give good butt scratches? Because of my Flight Risk I cannot be left unattended in a yard, crate training is a must when you are gone, tight grip on the leash is a must on adventures and my new family must be aware of open doors and windows.  No off leash activites for life in unfenced areas.  I need to stay safe.
