"Bear is a stunning blue male greyhound who will celebrate his fourth birthday shortly after arriving in July. Born on June 14, 2022, this handsome boy combines good looks, a gentle nature, and a calm, thoughtful personality that is sure to win hearts.
Raised by a caring owner with young children, Bear has been around three- and four-year-old kids and has interacted with them without issue. His easy-going nature and experience with family life give him a wonderful foundation as he transitions into retirement and searches for a forever home.
When introduced to new environments, Bear takes things in stride. During his assessment, he walked well on lead and entered the yard in a relaxed, confident manner. After taking some time to explore his surroundings and investigate the other dogs, he decided it was time to meet his assessor. Once he did, Bear happily settled in for affection, enjoying pats and gentle interaction.
Bear is a thoughtful dog who likes to assess situations before jumping in, but once he feels comfortable, his sweet personality shines through. He showed no signs of stress in a new environment and demonstrated the calm demeanor that makes greyhounds such wonderful companions.
At mealtime, Bear displayed excellent manners. During resource-guarding assessments, kibble was added to his bowl while he was eating, and he showed no concerns or possessiveness. He handled the exercise beautifully, demonstrating a relaxed attitude around food.
With other dogs, Bear was initially a little cautious around both large and small companions. Because of this, slow and thoughtful introductions are recommended, particularly with larger dogs. He would also benefit from continued exposure and guidance around small dogs as he adjusts to life beyond the racing environment. His initial caution appears to stem more from uncertainty than reactivity, and with patient introductions, he should continue to build confidence.
Bear is a lovely boy with a calm temperament, good manners, and a gentle soul. He has already shown that he can adapt well to new situations, enjoys human companionship, and has the potential to become a devoted family member.
