Story
** If you are interested in adopting Cookie, please fill out our adoption application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ ** Meet Cookie! Cookie is an adorable, 1-year-old, 35 lb Basset Hound / Blue Heeler mix with big floppy ears, short stubby legs, and the most beautiful markings you can imagine. This handsome lowrider turns heads everywhere he goes, and once you meet him, he’ll steal your heart too. Cookie was found as a stray in New Mexico, and nobody came to claim him. Cookie is an absolute sweetheart. He is very social, loves people, and happily soaks up affection, pets, and cuddles whenever they’re offered. He does wonderfully with other dogs and would love a canine buddy in his forever home, but he is happy with people attention as well so a buddy is not a necessity. He enjoys playtime but is equally content lounging around and enjoying good company. Cookie walks well on leash, has an easygoing and well-mannered personality, and carries a low to medium energy level — the perfect balance of playful and chill. He’s the kind of dog who fits seamlessly into daily life and makes everything a little sweeter just by being there. Since Cookie is so young, he is a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show him the way. With positive reinforcement training, he has all the potential in the world to be a loyal, well-mannered adult companion. He’ll thrive with virtual or in-person force-free training classes, which will help strengthen his bond with his humans and build him confidence. Cookie is up to date on his vaccinations and is neutered. When Cookie arrived to the New Mexico shelter, they noticed a slightly awkward limp. X-rays and a full veterinary evaluation revealed that this is simply an old injury or possible birth defect — his right hind femur is a bit shorter than the other. There are no fractures, no broken bones, and no signs of pain, and the veterinarian confirmed that no treatment of any kind is needed now or in the future. Cookie bears weight on the leg, gets around just fine, and his unique little “pirate walk” (affectionately known as his peg leg) only adds to his charm and character. Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial. Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year. Applications are currently being accepted for our wonderful pup. If interested in this gorgeous, very cuddly/sweet and loving best friend, please fill out an application completely at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
