Story
Brownie (aka Bubba) is a cute 6-year old male Miniature Pinscher/Beagle mix who was surrendered to the HSOV on March 6, 2026 for a heartbreaking reason since his owner has been hospitalized and is no longer able to care for his beloved pet. Brownie may look familiar to many of our HSOV volunteers and Facebook fans since he was adopted from HSOV in December 2021. Brownie has enjoyed 4-years and four months with his adoptive owner and surely misses being in a loving home with the person who adored him. Brownie has a black-and-brown short smooth coat with a smidgeon of white on his chest, a long tail, and an adorable (rather mischievous-looking) face with a tan mask, a slender muzzle, and magnificent large floppy ears which frame his face. This little guy is full of playful puppy-like energy. Brownie adores his adult people friends, but he doesn't do well with other dogs, cats, or young children. Brownie has been kept indoors. Brownie weighs approximately 21 lbs and walks fairly well on leash. He has already been neutered. These photos were taken on March 6, 2026 when HSOV Shelter Manager Tracy Lynn Moore helped Brownie with his 'big boy' outdoor pictures and gave him extra attention while telling him what a good boy he was. Since Brownie has already been neutered, he could leave our shelter immediately with an approved HSOV adoption application. We'd love to see him back in a home environment instead of in a small shelter floor crate. Update:: Brownie went home with a foster family on March 20, 2026 who plans to adopt him if all goes well. Brownie was returned at closing time on March 20, 2026 because he was nipping/growling at a grandchild in his foster family's home. Brownie is NOT good with other dogs, cats, or children and prefers to be an 'only child/dog' in his adult family's home. Update: Brownie went home with a foster family on April 11, 2026 who plans to adopt him if all goes well. Brownie was returned by his foster family on April 14, 2026 because he wouldn't eat for some reason.

Story
Kansas is a beautiful 1-1/2 year old female Hound/Beagle mix who was brought to the HSOV on June 1, 2026 by the Washington County Ohio Dog Warden after she was found on Congress Road in the Belpre Ohio area. Kansas was not wearing a collar, and she was not microchipped. This little beauty has a tricolor short-haired coat, a long tail, and a pretty tan-and-white face with dark brown eyes, a slender muzzle, and large floppy ears. These updated photos of Kansas were taken on June 3rd 2026 when HSOV Volunteer Miley Kiggans accompanied her for outdoor glamour pictures. Kansas gave us her best poses and quick smiles for the camera. This sweet girl has a friendly, rather demure, personality, and she loves attention. Kansas weighs 50 lbs. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Kansas was held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership. Surprisingly, as of June 8th nobody had called or came looking for Kansas. If you recognize this beautiful girl or know who her owner might be, please leave a comment here or call our shelter (740.373.5959).

Story
Banshee is a handsome 2-year old male Hound/Beagle mix who was surrendered by his owner to the Washington County Ohio Dog Warden on February 26, 2025. Banshee has a black-and-brown short smooth coat with a large patch of white on his chest, white paws, a long tail, and an adorable Beagle/Hound face with soft brown eyes, a black button nose, a slender muzzle, and large floppy ears. Thanks to HSOV Kennel Tech Emma Dahlgren for accompanying Banshee for his photo session later in the afternoon on February 26th. Banshee has a friendly disposition and an outgoing personality. He was a pushover for attention and playtime during his 15-minutes of fame with Emma. Banshee playfully demonstrated his 'downward facing dog yoga' pose when he saw dogs being walked in the distance by volunteers. Banshee weighs 49 lbs and walks fairly well on a leash. Banshee will be neutered before being adopted by his new family (a requirement for HSOV adoptions to be finalized). Update Banshee went home with a foster family on June 28, 2025 who plans to adopt him after he is neutered. Banshee was returned to HSOV on July 1, 2025. Banshee was great with his foster dad and mom, but he didn't appear to be accustomed to sharing a home with young children .. and the children were a little intimidated by Banshee. So the family felt Banshee would be better suited in a home that he didn't share with small/young children. Banshee was neutered on September 22, 2025 and was also given rabies vaccine.
