Story
Buddy is a sweet 8-1/2 year old male Basset Hound/Shepherd mix who was brought to the HSOV on October 1, 2023 after he was found on State Route 821 in Washington County Ohio. Buddy was not wearing a collar, and he was not microchipped. This older gentleman has a black-and-brown medium haired coat, a long tail, and an adorable face with hopeful innocent eyes, tan eyebrows, a black button nose, and large floppy ears. Buddy has a lovable personality and enjoyed attention from HSOV Humane Officer Fredley Tynan who helped him with his first photos on October 2, 2023. Buddy had noticeable hair loss when he entered our shelter which was likely from a flea infestation/allergy. He was examined by a local veterinarian on October 2nd who diagnosed with severe skin allergies and ear infections. Buddy was also diagnosed with a heart murmur and tested positive for Lyme disease. He has undergone treatment/medications and has also finished his Lyme disease antibiotics on November 1st. Buddy weighed 42 lbs. on October 1, 2023. He walks fairly well on a leash. Buddy isn't a very large dog when you see him in person. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Buddy was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Nobody called or came looking for Buddy. Since Buddy was not reclaimed, he went home with a foster family on November 8, 2023 who planned to adopt him ... But he was returned on May 19, 2024 because they could no longer give Buddy the care that he needs. The family is rather active and Buddy needs to be taken outside more frequently than they can be there for him. His foster family reported that Buddy is good with children, cats, and other dogs. Buddy is being listed as a 'Special Needs' dog since he is partially deaf and blind. Because of his limited vision, he is frightened of loud noises. UPDATE: Buddy went to a fabulous foster home on June 9, 2024 where he will be loved and cherished 24/7 while he waits for someone special to offer him a permanent home where he can spend his golden years continuing to be pampered to his heart's content. HSOV is accepting adoption applications for Buddy and can arrange a meet-and-greet if you are interested in adopting this sweet soul.

Buddy was not wearing a collar, and he was not microchipped. This older gentleman has a black-and-brown medium haired coat, a long tail, and an adorable face with hopeful innocent eyes, tan eyebrows, a black button nose, a dusting of white on his muzzle, and large floppy ears. When we took first photos of Buddy on October 2, 2023 he had noticeable hair loss which was likely from a flea infestation/allergy. He had been examined by a local veterinarian earlier that day who diagnosed him with severe skin allergies and ear infections. Buddy was also diagnosed with a heart murmur and tested positive for Lyme disease. He has undergone treatment/medications and has also finished his Lyme disease antibiotics on November 1st. What a difference 4-weeks made in Buddy's outlook on life and his physical appearance! These photos were taken on November 3, 2023 when HSOV Kennel Tech Cadince Bibbee spent time with Buddy for updated pictures. Buddy had a cute smile in most of his photos, and he had a lively bounce in his step as he pranced around in the fallen leaves. Buddy's hair is growing back though it is still a little sparse on his chest and tail .. But he looks 100% better outwardly than when we first met him and he is still the same sweet boy inside (where it really counts). Buddy has gained a few pounds and weighed 46.6 lbs. on October 25, 2023. He walked well on a leash for Cadince (who admitted that she had fallen in love with Buddy). Buddy went home with a foster family on November 8, 2023 who planned to adopt him, but he was returned on May 19, 2024 because they could no longer give Buddy the care that he needs. Buddy is being listed as a 'Special Needs' dog since he is partially deaf and blind. Because of his limited vision, he is frightened of loud noises. These photos of Buddy were taken on May 26, 2024 when HSOV Kennel Tech Emily Beaver accompanied him for updated 'glamour pictures' since he is looking (and feeling) so much better than he was in his previous photos. Buddy was the perfect gentleman when he strolled around with Emily in the green grass and flashed his famous smile for the camera. Buddy is currently enjoying his own private "bachelor's pad" and has a private suite in a 'gated community' in the lobby of our shelter. Buddy is often seen snoozing on his blanket-filled Kuranda bed, but quickly awakens to stand at the gate in hopes of petting, good boy treats, or an offer to take a walk in the green grass. Buddy currently weighs approximately 50 lbs. His coat is beautiful these days and has fully grown back in (except around his neck which still bears the 'scars' of where an old collar must have been embedded around his neck). This senior citizen deserves THE best home with someone to love and cherish him forever and ever (amen). UPDATE: Buddy went to a fabulous foster home on June 9, 2024 where he will be loved and cherished 24/7 while he waits for someone special to offer him a permanent home where he can spend his golden years continuing to be pampered to his heart's content. Story
Lyric is a beautiful one-year old female Beagle/Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on April 15, 2024 by Good Samaritans who found her on Silver Globe Road in the Marietta Ohio area and feared for her safety since she was in danger of being struck in traffic. Lyric was not wearing a collar, and she was not microchipped. This little sweetheart has a tan-and-white short smooth coat, a long tail with a white tip on the end, and an adorable symmetrically-marked face with soulful brown eyes that beg for kindness, a white stripe on her forehead, a black button nose, a dusting of white on her slender muzzle, and short floppy ears. Lyric has a sweet, rather demure, disposition and an affectionate personality. She was a bit timid when she first entered our shelter, but she wanted attention from everyone who was near her in the lobby of our shelter (the kind folks who brought her in as well as our kennel techs and photographer). Lyric is the kind of dog that you instinctively want to hold close and reassure her that she is in good hands with people who already love her. Lyric is a petite young lady who weighs 25 lbs. She has had a litter of puppies sometime in the past. These photos of Lyric were taken late in the afternoon of April 17th when HSOV Volunteer Jennie Sherrard accompanied her for outdoor glamour pictures in the green grass. Lyric loved attention from Jennie .. She was also very curious about other dogs being walked in the distance and seemed to want to make their acquaintance. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Lyric was held for three days so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership .. But nobody called or came looking for her. Since she was not reclaimed, Lyric went home with a foster family on May 10, 2024 who plans to adopt her after she is spayed. Note: Lyric was returned to our shelter on May 13th because she didn't get along with the family's resident dog .. So Lyric is available and looking for the perfect home.

Story
Meringue is a beautiful 1-1/2 year old female Lemon Beagle who was brought to the HSOV on June 15, 2024 by a Good Samaritan after this little sweetheart was left near the family's home on Clark Road in the Cutler Ohio area. Meringue was not wearing a collar (though there was a definite indentation where a collar had once been), and she was not microchipped. Meringue has a white-and-tan short smooth coat, a long tail, and an adorable Beagle face with hopeful trusting brown eyes, a liver-colored nose on her slender muzzle, and large floppy ears. It appears that Meringue had given birth in the recent past but there weren't any puppies with her when she was found. She will most likely be seen by one of our wonderful local veterinarians since she may have a urinary tract infection. Meringue has a sweet, rather demure, personality and is understandably a bit nervous being in an unfamiliar place. She is good hands with our compassionate HSOV kennel techs/staff and being loved by them. Thanks to HSOV Kennel Tech Emily Beaver for accompanying Meringue for her outdoor photos on June 16th. Meringue was a little timid about walking on a leash but made a noble effort with Emily by her side (and Emily lovingly carried Meringue in her arms when needed). Meringue currently weighs 22.4 lbs. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Meringue will be held for the three-day mandatory stray hold. She will be available for adoption if not reclaimed.
