Story
Some dogs have never known what it’s like to just be a dog. Scout is one of them.    Scout is a sweet 6-7 year old, 10 lb male Havanese who recently left the commercial breeding world behind. After spending his entire life with very little human interaction, the world can still feel like a pretty scary place. New people, new experiences, and everyday life are all things he’s learning one small step at a time. Despite everything he has been through, this little guy is showing us just how resilient he is. Slowly, but surely he is opening up more and more.    When Scout first arrived in his foster home, he was incredibly timid and unsure of everyone around him. Watching him slowly come out of his shell and trust us has been one of the most heartwarming things. These days he comes when he’s called, seeks out affection, wags his tail, and has discovered that being loved isn’t so bad after all.  His favorite place is the backyard, where he happily explores and gains confidence every day. He’s doing really well with potty training, loves his crate, and sleeps soundly through the night. His crate has become his little safe haven.   Scout is still a work in progress, and that’s ok. He will need a little continued help with potty training and walking on a leash. A securely fenced yard is a must, and we’d love to see him in a home with another small, friendly resident dog who can help show him the ropes. He enjoys treats, but doesn’t care for toys yet.    Scout is not looking for someone who expects him to be perfect right away or a home with wild toddlers. He needs a patient, loving home that will give him the time and encouragement to continue discovering how wonderful life can be. In return, you’ll have the incredible privilege of watching a little dog who has known very little kindness finally learn what it means to be loved. Every day he gets a little braver, a little happier, and a little more comfortable. He will need groomed regularly.    Scout is now neutered, fully vetted and vaccinated, had a dental cleaning with 20+ teeth removed (eats like a champ regardless), is on heartworm prevention, and is ready to meet you! His adoption donation is $375. Please apply directly on our website in the dropdown menu at https://havenanimalrescuenebraska.org PLEASE SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AT: https://havenanimalrescuenebraska.org/adoption-application We do not have a facility. All of our animals are in volunteer foster homes. Once an application is pre-approved (contingent upon a home check) we will contact applicants that are a good match and set up a time for a meet. At that time we are happy to answer all of your questions. No inquiries prior to that please. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, examined by a vet, up-to-date on vaccinations, on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchipped. We adopt our animals as strictly inside companion pets. We will do a veterinarian reference check and a home safety check. We are located in Omaha, NE and we do not ship our animals. We are all volunteers so please be patient with us. Our requested adoption fees help go towards medical expenses, food, transportation, toys, and other supplies for our animals. We are a state licensed, 501c3 nonprofit rescue and the adoption donation may be tax deductible for you.  Thank you for choosing adoption!! September 10, 2026, 10:34 pm

Story
This dynamic duo is Lucy and Lupe.  Lucy is a Havanese mix, born 3/18/21 and Lupe is a Shih Tzu, born 11/6/21. They get along with other dogs and new people, although Lucy is a little shy sometimes.  They enjoy being active and like to run around outside.  Lucy and Lupe are calm most of the time - they will play with each other or their toys.  They will both occasionally bark at a car pulling up or knocking at the door. Why you need Lucy & Lupe in your life -  They are both very sweet! They like to cuddle and sit on your lap, especially Lupe.   Lucy gets along with kids and Lupe doesn't mind having them around.  Diet & Health Both dogs need a salmon diet with no chicken or beef.  They both currently get allergy shots.  We don't know yet if that will need to continue.   A fenced yard for them to run and safely play would be ideal.  They've been known to do a little digging from time to time.  Lucy and Lupe are both potty pad trained.  Their foster mom is working on potty training outside. They have only been in their foster home a short time - we will post updates as we learn more about them.   The suggested adoption donation for both Lucy and Lupe is $700, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees. Information about the adoption process:  All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note:  We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months.
