Story
Personality: Sugar and Spice! Petunia goes by many names, including Pattycake, Tuna melt,
and our favorite Squiggly butt!
Petunia is a sweet, playful, curious, and confident girl. She may
be a little shy at first, but give her a couple of hours, and you’ll see her adorable personality
shine. She is a loving, affectionate girl who enjoys cuddling on the couch, playing with toys, and
going for walks to explore the world.
She sometimes barks when she is super excited (zoomies!
- always after her meals and will play bite at things nearby like pillows and blankets, but she is
easily redirected if you give her a toy) or to alert you to strangers outside. She has done well on
short car rides (up to 1 hour) with no car sickness and lies down after a few minutes. Once
comfortable, she will try to assert her dominance on the other dogs in the home by low growling,
but respects when checked. She enjoys chewing on toys and is learning play time boundaries
with another dog. During playtime, she tried ankle biting, but responded positively to the other
dog’s correction.
Education: Potty training - she is potty trained, MAKE SURE TO PICK UP WATER AT LEAST 2
HOURS BEFORE BED, it helps her sleep soundly through the night. Petunia drinks a lot of
water, so ready access to a yard would be helpful, but if no yard, then frequent walks are
needed.
Crate training: in progress, she is learning that the crate is a safe place and receives all
meals and treats inside with the door shut. She is learning to walk inside on her own, then hears
“Good crate” before being given her food, then the door is locked and we walk away for a
couple minutes before letting her out.
Walking on a leash: she gets excited to be outside and will
pull in the direction she wants to go in. She can be leash reactive when she sees another dog
outside. She really loves being around her people… like, really loves it, and likes to follow you
around the house. She will also try to follow you out the door, so make sure she is secure before
leaving or opening any doors. She hasn’t shown any separation anxiety when left for up to 2.5
hours, no barking or destruction, and she is crated with a dog friend next to her.
Favorite Activities: Snuggling on the couch with her humans (belly rubs!), Going on adventures
and sniffing everything, Treats, Toys!
