Story
*This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.* Meet Coco, a little senior sweetheart with a big love for attention. Coco is the smaller half of this adorable bonded pair, and he wants nothing more than to be right by your side — or better yet, in your lap giving kisses. He is affectionate, snuggly, and happiest when he’s close to his people. Coco has a relaxed daily routine and enjoys several short walks a day. After a potty break, breakfast, and a walk, he’s usually ready to curl up in a soft bed or relax in his kennel with Cooper nearby. He’s not too interested in toys, but he does have the cutest habit of “digging” himself the perfect little spot before collapsing into a deep, cozy nap. Coco is crate trained, potty trained, leash trained, and knows simple commands. He does bark at other dogs at first, but he’s been improving with treats and just needs a little time to sniff and settle. Coco is wonderful with people and loves being touched, petted, and included. Coco and Cooper are truly bonded and must be adopted together. These sweet senior boys are low-key, loving companions who still enjoy getting outside for walks and fresh air. They are ready to bring double the snuggles, double the smiles, and double the love to their forever home. ---- Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and recommendations to keep your Senior dog in top shape.

Story
Hi, I'm Layla! I may be a little shy when we first meet, and I'll probably bark when new people come into the house, but give me a chance to sniff you and I'll be happy to make a new friend. Once I trust you, I'm a sweet, affectionate girl who loves being outside, going for walks, playing with toys, and even splashing around in the water. I came from a neglectful situation where I lived outside with badly matted fur, so learning to trust people took a little time. With patience, kindness, and a fresh haircut, I discovered just how good ear scratches, cozy laps, and being loved can be. I'm mostly house trained and have a funny little routine when it's potty time. I also ride wonderfully in the car and will happily sit quietly on your lap. Right now I'm completely obsessed with my Santa stuffie. I even carry it outside with me when I go potty! I also love a good chew, but I prefer to enjoy my favorite toys and treats without other dogs getting too close, so I'll need someone who understands how to manage my space around other pets. I can get anxious and vocal in a crate, so I'm hoping to find a family that will help me continue building confidence. If you're willing to give me a little patience at first, you'll discover a loyal, loving companion with plenty of personality and an adorable collection of quirks that will keep you smiling. Layla is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 7/11/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Visit our Foster to Adopt Program page to learn more. ---- This pet is currently undergoing treatment for heartworm disease. Activity must be restricted for several weeks during recovery. RSR will cover the full cost of treatment. RSR will provide heartworm preventatives until the retest is due. The adopter will be responsible for scheduling the retest and obtaining any follow-up prescriptions through their veterinarian.

Story
Sparkles is a sweet, playful little dog: when she wants your attention, she dances around like a tiny ballerina, one could even say she “sparkles”. 😉 Sparkles is potty trained, knows basic commands, and is friendly and confident when meeting new dogs. She loves to play, whether it's inside or outside, and enjoys having other small dogs around. Sparkles’ journey to Minnesota has not been an easy one. She was found in an area of Texas where animals are often abandoned, matted, covered in fleas, and suffering from multiple parasites. Today, she's healthy and ready for the loving home she deserves. She would do best with older children, as she may nip if she's startled or surprised. With a little patience and time to build trust, Sparkles will blossom into a happy, affectionate companion and she is eager for her fresh start to begin! Sparkles is from Texas.
