Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Camilla, the ultimate love bug! This sweet pup was found as a stray, roaming the streets alongside her pitbull friend who was also rescued. When she was discovered, Camilla was heavily matted. Her rescuer gave her a much-needed haircut, leaving her looking a little uneven for the time being. Despite her rough start, Camilla remains a shining example of resilience and love. Camilla's favorite pastime is patrolling the yard, keeping a watchful eye on her surroundings. She wants to make sure her loved ones are safe! When she's not on duty, you'll often find her cozied up by her foster parent's feet, soaking up all the love and attention she can get. And let us tell you, this girl has the most beautiful soulful eyes. If you're in search of the perfect canine companion, look no further than Camilla. With her sweet nature and loving personality, she's sure to steal your heart in no time. So if you're ready for a lifetime of snuggles and unconditional love, consider opening your heart and home to Camilla. You won't regret it! Camilla has not been introduced to children or cats. Camilla is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 5/17/2024 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. One big thing you should know is they are heartworm positive - but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting them! After they undergo treatment for their condition they will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease. Because they need treatment, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) program. Click here to learn more about this program. They will get heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so their foster will need to be comfortable getting them to and from the appointments. Treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after they enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first. When they are undergoing treatment, they should be on activity ‘restrictions’ which just means they should relax in their crate or cuddle with you.   Click here to learn more about heartworm disease, which is transmitted by mosquitoes. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you'd like to donate towards this pet's care, you can donate to our Animal Care Fund. Our Animal Care Fund supports the medical and veterinary needs for all Ruff Start Rescue animals. You'll be able to enter this pet's name on the second page of the donation form. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 6, 2024, 7:32 am

Story
Hi! I’m Sheila, I'm 8 years old and done being a mama! I’m enjoying my new life in Minnesota learning to play and looking forward to retiring on a couch, eating treats, playing with my toys, and snuggling up with my people. I’ve been spending my days dancing around my foster home trying out ALL the toys and ALL the beds, sniffing ALL the smells in the backyard, and taking naps both inside and out. Things I’ve learned I love are attention, treats, attention, toys (especially squeaky ones), attention, breakfast and dinner, attention, and sitting in laps. And did I mention attention? Things I’m figuring out is pottying outside (I know to go outside, but usually go inside once a day just because i want to!), which things/plants are ok to chew (hint- phone charger cords are NOT ok), and sometimes other dogs (I want ALL your attention!) I play tug and chase with the right companion but they need to be ok with me being the boss. Things I’m not a fan of are storms and loud noises, strangers, and the super cold weather. I don’t know or care what cats are- boring! I’m poodly smart with a big personality and would love to learn more games and might benefit from working with a trainer to help me learn to share if I end up living with other dogs. I can get a little jealous and bossy!  I will let you know if it sounds like anyone is coming home so living in a place with shared walls won't work for me as all those noises make me anxious and our neighbors won't like me letting them all know!  I will also answer if I hear other dogs calling me, ignoring them would be rude! I don't really like the leash but love to go outside in my fenced in yard to go potty, so I will definitely need a fence!  Zoomies in the yard or chasing my people are enough exercise for me. What I want most in life is to snuggle my BFF and eat treats. Can you be that BFF? Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, alter, prepaid microchip, dental, dewormed, Rabies vaccine, DAPP vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX , flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $350.00 Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 5, 2024, 10:40 pm

Story
I'm  Robert  and am 2 years old. I'm a mini golden doodle. I have a luscious brown coat with hints of white.  I recently moved to MN on January 21, 2024 to enjoy my retirement from breeding. I am learning to be a dog and have bursts of puppy energy. I got along well with my foster sister before she was adopted and resident cats. I would prefer to have a pup sibling to keep me company in my future home. I am shy around humans and it takes me a little bit to warm up. Loud or sudden movements can be scary and I tend to get skittish or anxious. I don't mind the little humans trying to cuddle with me but I do keep my distance as they tend to make lots of sudden movements. I prefer the calm adult but do love to give the kids lots of kisses. I am learning to play with toys and chew on them.  I love doing zoomies in the backyard and am learning to walk with a harness/leash.  I go out pretty regularly to do my potty business and have only had two #2 accidents in the house because the human didn't read my body cues fast enough. I'm a bit of a talker when I hear all these noises that I haven't heard before, like a TV or someone entering a room without letting me know.  I'm not used to being alone so this can make me feel stressed but I do go in my kennel when the humans are away. I also am sleeping through the night in my kennel. My human puts on the sound machine which helps to tune out all the other noises. I am enjoying being a dog and love to give kisses. Can I give you some puppy kisses?  Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, dental, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $850.00 Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 5, 2024, 10:40 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.      Hello, wonderful souls! I'm Peter, your soon-to-be charming companion! I'm a very handsome Miniature Poodle, and I'm discovering the joys of comfort and love in my foster home. Each day brings me more confidence, and I'm eager to share my overflowing love with a special someone—maybe that's you! I am a bit timid, sudden movements, commotion, and loud noises still make me a bit uneasy. However, I'm getting better at facing these fears every day. When foster mom is still, I'm all about those loving pets and cuddles. But if she's on the move, I keep my distance—I even bolt if she walks toward me. I know commands like "outside" and "stop," and leash and potty training are still on my to-learn list. I'm 95% potty trained, especially with a consistent routine. A fenced yard is a must for my adventurous spirit. I'd love to have a canine companion to show me the ropes, help me 'dog' properly, and boost my confidence. We're working on some manners, and my foster pals are excellent teachers. Walking on a leash needs some practice, and a confident pal by my side would be perfect. Despite being easily startled and a bit hand-shy, I've found joy in playing with toys, furry friends, and even those mysterious creatures called cats. I'm all about giving kisses, nibbling fingers, and enjoying ear scratches. Zoomies are my specialty, especially in the fenced yard or on the stairs. I've got some manners to polish up, like waiting for my turn and distinguishing between toys and household items – hee hee! I really am a sweet boy who is simply looking for the patience, unconditional love, and security that I SO richly deserve from my own fur-ever family! I really hope that YOU will be my new family because my heart is overflowing with love that I want to share with someone very special! Love, Peter *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared.  Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption.  This will be at the adopters expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses .   Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue.   Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    I’m fairly new here but have been gaining confidence by the day!  As with most dogs, when I first meet someone, I’m a little shy and timid.  I’m really curious inside and want to be near so it’ll just need a bit of time to know that you’re a safe space for me.  I’ve been learning about trust and now I’m more apt to stay put than run, when approached.  Once I’m picked up I just melt right in for love.  That’ll likely be my personality all the time once I know you’re my people.  I’ve just started sleeping on my foster’s leg and inching my way up to hopefully a lap soon. In my spare time I enjoy eating and playing with other dogs.  I’m trying hard to follow along and go potty outside but as close as I am to getting the hang of it, I might need a little transition time to learn it at my forever home too. I do well in the kennel and am working on going inside on command.  Won’t that be a neat trick?! I do need a fenced yard in my forever home. When it is time to put on a leash and harness, I get worried. We are practicing how to stay put nicely to put on a harness without bolting.  HAHA  I’m tricky like that.  I haven’t really had any true leash walking experience so that’s something we can practice.  I do know the command for “stay” which is what I’m told when they want to wrangle me in the harness.  I have been snarky with some of the other dogs here when it comes to my food.  I have to tell them to buzz off, that it’s mine.  That seems to be all it is, as I’m not aggressive.  I can be an only dog too if you’d like. I’m just a sweetheart (so I’m told) and quiet overall.  I am still a little timid but not as much as I was when I first arrived.  I hope to find my forever home so I can have all the love I deserve. *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.
Hey there, friends! I'm Miles, the sweetest Mini Poodle you'll ever meet, and I'm ready to be your loyal companion for life! I've got so much love to give, and I'm not shy about showing it! People are my absolute favorite, and I warm up to them faster than you can say "treat." When I'm happy, my whole body wags, especially my tail—it's a tail-wagging masterpiece! Toys are my jam! I can't get enough of them, and I might have a small collection going on. Sharing is caring, but when it comes to toys, I want them all to myself. I'm a real homebody who loves being around my favorite humans. I've been known to get a bit anxious when I can't see my people, but who can blame me? Separation anxiety is a thing for me, and I'm working on it. Give me a backyard, and I'm in doggy heaven! I love racing around, feeling the wind in my fur, and exploring all the exciting scents. And, let me tell you, I've got the zoomies down to an art form. When nature calls, I'm all about #1 in the grass. But for #2, I've got a specific mulched, private area in mind. A dog's gotta have some dignity, right? I've got big dreams of being the center of attention with one or two retired humans. I want to be part of all your adventures and soak up all the love you've got to give. Sleeping in a bed with my human? Sounds like heaven to me. I may have my quirks, but who doesn't? What I promise is a friendship that lasts a lifetime. Super chill, super sweet, and super smart—I'm the whole package! *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.      How do you do? Regina is my name, quite a pleasure to make your acquaintance. Now, it’s not like a lady to share her weight, but if I must, I’ll make the exception this one time. I am a 26 lb adult poodle, and while some other dogs are okay calling themselves a “good girl” I would say I am more of a refined lady. I mind my p’s and q’s, I wouldn’t dare cross your personal boundaries until I am invited to which I will gracefully accept your invitation. I will stand and give you a greeting hug and put my arms around you in a gentle fashion.        I am rather intelligent and am of the curious kind. If my senses are heightened by a delicious scent from the countertop, I must admit, I may explore but only when I know something is obtainable. Perhaps keeping delicious morsel treats a tad bit higher will keep my nosy nature at bay, which will likely lessen a counter surfing opportunity. Because of my intellect, I will remember where you keep treats, so, take note.        Despite my small frame, I move with elegance, like a graceful horse in stride. Though I have not been around children or felines, I am gentle and calm in spirit, so I do believe my patience will carry over if either were present in my new home. I do not mind other dogs of any size, but I love being with my person, a home without another canine could be ideal. I’m sure either will be quite alright.       I do prefer to be near my master, but will remain quietly poised in my kennel if that’s where you desire me at times, I also understand the command. While I often do not choose to speak, if prompted by another playmate, I may whine until the barking stops. Because I am a smart cookie, puzzle games are a great joy to me, along with treats and food being a delight as well.        I’m hoping my new home has a fenced yard, I don’t enjoy unnecessary sights and sounds, and an area that’s familiar would keep me in a gentler state of mind. I am working on potty training, I go outside, and I do use bathroom pads in the middle of the night, but I do need practice. I would think that with some extra attention in this area, maybe a schedule, I will likely pick up on cues in this area quickly. Perhaps allowing me to have free reign in the home when you are gone will have to be a reward that I must earn because of this reason, which is quite alright as I stated earlier, I don’t mind the kennel.       Well, look at the time, I must take my afternoon nap. Before I go, I will leave you with this thought to keep in mind. I promise to be loyal, loving and a caring companion for the human that is looking for a fellow gentle soul. Sending my warm regards.   *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. YOU CAN HELP: Not able to foster or adopt right now? Please consider sponsoring an Underdog. Your donation will help us buy dog food and pay for medical costs. Visit this link  www.underdogrescuemn.com/donate   to donate.  (Please note: A Paypal account is not necessary to use Paypal. When you get to the Paypal page, just use the link to the left of their login to make your donation via Paypal without an account.) May 6, 2024, 5:23 am
