APPLICATION: If this dog has stolen your heart, don't wait! Please apply online now to be considered as a potential adopter. NAME, GENDER, AGE WEIGHT & BREED DOG: ARLO GENDER: MALE DOB: 09-10-18 approx. WEIGHT: 50 approx. BREED: Siberian Husky Mix LOCATION: Delhi, LA ADOPTION FEE: $450.00 (includes transport) The Siberian Husky is a dog breed that originated from Siberia and was later brought to Nome Alaska for sled-dog racing. They are a medium-sized dog with an average lifespan of around 12 to 15 years. Arlo is a five year old Siberian Husky, he is neutered and heartworm negative. Kaylee is a granddaughter of one of our partners and works with rescue dogs on a daily basis. She saw a Husky, fell in love with the breed and decided that she really wanted one. Then, late September of 2018, Kaylee asked for a Husky and continued asking for a couple of years. She decided that she had to write a letter to “Santa” at school and asked him to bring her a Husky because her grandmother, Patricia, was not taking her seriously about getting her one:0 What she didn’t know was that grandma Patricia was looking for one and SURPRISE; Santa just happened to let the perfect male Husky show up on her Facebook as an older puppy that wasn’t sold. Patricia contacted the owner and they even kept Arlo until Christmas, Kaylee was really surprised. Kaylee and Arlo were a good match, she describes him as super sweet! She really loves him and he adores her, however, as the years went on she began to realize that Arlo needed to be a part of a pack; sociability is in the Husky blood of the bred. She realized that she just doesn’t have the adequate time to devote to him daily. She wanted Arlo, to have a better life. She didn’t have time to walk him like he should and saw that he was so bored in when he was in the pen all the time. Not to mention that the summer in Louisiana was unbearable with two months straight of triple digit heat. She had been discussing this for the last several months with Grandma Patricia and made the best decision for Arlo, to find him a home that could give him the life he deserves. Arlo gets along with all the other dogs and true to his breed, he is good with children, however, a home with no cats would be best! He knows his name well so she hopes the new family will keep his name. He needs a family that is familiar with the breed! Arlo does not have a mean bone in his body, however, true to the breed, he is just hard headed! He is easy to walk on a leash but he is so bored in the pen. He loves the water and cold weather and he will a much better in a home that he is meant to live in! It takes real love to let a dog go, Kaylee has played, walked, fed and slept with Arlo for five years. She sees other rescue dogs go north and have such a great life and she feels bad that Arlo doesn’t have that kind of life with her in the South. She knows that she must always do what is best for the dog, she does it every day with her grandma’s rescue. She wants him to have a better life, a real Husky life in the snow and a home that would give him more attention. Arlo gives unconditional love to everyone he meets, he has a charming disposition and a playful manner. Do you have room in your heart for a new best friend? Because Arlo wants nothing more than to share his heart with someone who can appreciate it for what he truly is: SPECIAL ABOUT THE BREED A Sociable Creature They are, first and foremost, very loving and gentle dogs, who give a lot of affection and love to receive it. They’re good with children (though, of course, they should be supervised at all times) and friendly towards strangers. For this reason, I don’t recommend them if you want a guard dog, as they are likely to greet an intruder with a wag of the tail rather than a menacing bark. Siberian Huskies shouldn’t be left alone for too long (no more than 3 or 4 hours), and they like to live with other dogs. Needs Tons Of Exercise Like the Alaskan Husky and the Alaskan Malamute, the Siberian Husky was bred to haul cargo, meaning they are used to doing a lot of activity and are, therefore, very high-energy dogs. As adults, they need at least 1 hour of vigorous exercise a day. They make an excellent match for someone who is sporty and likes doing activities such as hiking, jogging or running. Likes Having A Job It is worth investing in a doggie backpack to fulfill her need to have a job. In these packs, you can store bottles of water to keep you both hydrated on a hike. Carrying this weight will satisfy her instinct to e Ask any Siberian Husky owner, and they’ll tell you all about the amount these dogs can shed. Needs A Lot Of Maintenance! Apart from everyday shedding (which is a pretty high amount), these dogs ‘blow out’ their entire undercoat twice a year – in the spring and the fall. That means – yep! Those hairs will be flying around, getting on the carpet, and testing your patience levels. During these times, you should probably just leave the vacuum cleaner where you can see it at all times! Taking him to a groomer at least two times a year will take care of all of that. Has A Hard Time In The Heat Like their Alaskan Husky and Alaskan Malamute cousins, these dogs do not do well in the heat. If you live somewhere where the temperature reaches 80 degrees (26ºC) or over, don’t get a Siberian Husky. They should not be exercised in temperatures above 68 degrees (20ºC). In the summer months, it is better to take them out in the morning and the evening when the temperature is lower. ___________________________________________________________________________ WHAT DOES THE NAME ARLO MEAN? Story
Our gorgeous Koda is a two time visitor in our Rescue. His first owner left him at the New York Animal Control Shelter because his young family was ill-prepared to manage the natural behavior of a young puppy. Needless to say, Huskies are not everyone’s cup of tea. Koda lived harmoniously with older kids, but the busy family was not providing adequate training, exercise or socialization. The NYC Shelter sent Koda to us as the COVID Pandemic was winding down. Koda adapted to our routine easily, and was quickly placed in a home, but sadly, placement fell through due to unexpected illness. Now two years old, Koda is ready for his Act Three.  Koda is a Siberian Husky, with stunning black and white coloring and icy blue eyes. He is a medium sized dog, at a lean 43 pounds. He has the breed standard double coat that will moult a few times a year.  Koda has an outgoing personality and responds to new people and situations with curiosity. He warms to people quickly and becomes extremely affectionate. He relishes human touch, and willingly leans into his person for ear scratches. Koda is not as frantically high energy as some Huskies we have known, but as a two year old youngster, he does need a fair amount of exercise and mental stimulation.  Koda is a smart boy and has already passed many of the Canine Good Citizenship tests. He is a breeze to train, and loves the work, so motivated adopters could easily take him the rest of the way to CGC certification. Obedience work will go a long way to keep him challenged, calm and balanced. Koda would thrive in an active adult household, keen to the needs of a rescue dog. He would like to be in the forefront of the family and invited to participate in family activities. Koda would be the ideal running or hiking companion. He is an excellent traveler and would love to join his folks on camping or road trips. He is not a dog to be relegated to the backyard, where boredom and frustration can set in, and create unpleasant consequences. Koda could easily join a multi-dog home: he enjoys play and is pretty sociable. He is not the best candidate for toddlers or cats, but a well adjusted, outgoing dog would suit him. Koda has good house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home. He is in optimal health, and has been neutered, and has received routine vaccinations and health screenings. He has been dewormed, and microchipped.  If you are interested in Koda, please write to Denise at Angelsfrgod@aol.com or text Denise at 860-908-9738 for more info.

Seasoned Northern Breed Lovers will swoon over Big Muffin’s good looks. He is one of the most beautiful dogs we've had in some time. We suspect that Big Muffin is an ambitious mix of Husky and Chow Chow, which makes him formidable!  Seasoned Northern Breed Lovers will swoon over Big Muffin’s good looks. He is one of the most beautiful dogs we've had in some time. We suspect that Big Muffin is an ambitious mix of Husky and Chow Chow, which makes him formidable!  Big Muffin first entered NYCACC as a stray, and was easily adopted out, but then returned because of Landlord complaints about barking in the apartment. Big Muffin’s second time in the shelter seemed to unnerve him, so he came to our Connecticut Rescue so that we could place him in a less stressful country environment. Big Muffin loves people and is not the kind of dog who would be happy stuck in an apartment or back yard all day. He loves to be the center of attention. In fact, Big Muffin loves people so much that when he met our UPS Driver, he tried to take a ride with him! Big Muffin has the full, thick and lush Husky double coat, white with tan markings. A broad forehead and purple splashed tongue reveal Big Muffin’s Inner Chow. His big brown eyes seem to twinkle with impending impish mischief. At 3.5 years old, Big Muffin is past the puppy mayhem stage, and has generally good house manners. His breed mix requires a lot of exercise. Big Muffin is typical of the Husky Court Jester personality, but also seems to exude a serious Chow side. Anyone interested in sharing their home with this breed mix must bring their A game to the table.  Big Muffin needs a savvy handler to maintain his equlibrium. If he becomes bored, or frustrated, he can make some mischief. Exercise and discipline, as well as formal obedience training should be part of his life, as well as lots of action and human contact.  Big Muffin has adapted well to foster care and he would do well in the adult home of an experienced Northern Breed enthusiast, who has the time to make him a priority, and has the active lifestyle to keep him engaged. He is coming along nicely on his Canine Good Citizenship training, and has the potential to reach certification. Big Muffin has good house manners, and he is housetrained and crate trained, although Adopters should expect some accidents as he transitions to a new life. He is in great health, and has been neutered, and has received routine vaccinations and health screenings, If you are interested in Big Muffin, please write to Angelsfrgod@aol.com or call/text Denise at 860-908-9738.

Story
Our Josey is one hilarious character. When you think of all the characteristics that Husky Afficionados love about these fun-loving, goofy dogs, Josey has them all. She is the poster girl for best of the Breed. No doubt there is a smattering of other Canine DNA in Josey’s make-up. We see a hint of Australian Shepherd, and we wouldn’t rule out a smidge of Bully. Josey's story is a familiar one. Just one year old, she was found as a country stray and brought to a rural Shelter in North Carolina. Nobody came to claim her.  Shelter staff fell in love with Josey and were glad to transfer her to us before her euthanasia date. Josey adapted beautifully to our routine, and she quickly became one of our favorites.  Josey is a robust beauty with a BIG personality. She is extremely people friendly and would be a superstar in an active family who have the training chops to manage an energetic youngster.  Josey needs sufficient exercise to be happy, at least 2-3 brisk leash walks a day, plus a lot of focused playtime and ongoing obedience work with her Person. She loves the outdoors, and enjoys her walks even in the harsh weather.  Josey would be an ideal walking or running companion, which would help work out her ya-yas, before an obedience session. She has had a good grounding in beginning obedience and knows her basic commands. She has begun her Canine Good Citizen program and impresses us every day. Adopters should continue her program and develop her full potential.  Josey has a strong, yet nimble physique, and is at an ideal weight of 50 pounds. Her coat is short, manageable and easy to groom. Josey is mostly gray with striking white tuxedo markings and “socks.” Her one ice blue eye adds comic relief to her beautiful face. Josey could join just about any kind of active home. She is generally well behaved, and friendly to all. Although she is fairly easy to handle, she may overwhelm toddlers, but she'd be fine with older children and other well behaved dogs. We have not tested her with cats.  Josey has excellent house manners, and is house trained and crate trained, although adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that may occur as she adjusts to a new routine. Josey rides calmly in her crate on long drives, and behaves well in public. Josey has been spayed, and has received routine vaccinations and health screenings. She has been microchipped and dewormed. If you are interested in Josey, please write to Denise at Angelsfrgod@aol.com or call Denise at 860-908-9738 for more info.

Story
Finn is a snuggly, friendly young dog. He is around 11 months old. We took him home about a month ago from a family who was having more children and didn’t have time to care for him. He is a very high energy dog with separation anxiety. Finn needs to be in a home where he can get plenty of exercise and should truly be with someone who is home most of the time. Unfortunately we work long days and he becomes destructive when left alone for long periods of time. He is relatively house trained but will have accidents if he is left alone for a while or not taken outside frequently. He is awesome with kids, great with other dogs, and a very good dog in general when his human is home.
