Story
Mama Everest is a stunning husky/shepherd mix with a heart as big as her name. She comes to us from the Red Lake Reservation, where she did everything she could to keep her babies safe in the harsh Minnesota cold. Everest gave birth under a porch, sheltering her puppies as best she could. A kind community member brought the puppies inside to keep them warm, while Everest stayed close by—watching, waiting, and protecting from outside, even though she wasn’t comfortable coming indoors herself. Her devotion never wavered. She has proven to be an incredible mama. Her puppies are healthy, happy, and chunky thanks to her constant care. Everest has done her job beautifully—and now, once her babies are fully weaned, she deserves the chance to be someone’s baby too. Mama Everest is gentle, resilient, and deeply loyal. She’s learning that she’s safe now and that humans can be trusted to take care of her as well. Medical transparency is important to us: Mama Everest is heartworm positive and Lyme positive. She will need to complete heartworm treatment and be spayed before she is officially available for adoption. During this time, she is eligible for a foster-to-adopt home, where she can continue healing, decompressing, and learning what life in a loving home looks like. If you’re patient, compassionate, and ready to open your heart to a dog who has given so much of herself already, Mama Everest may be the perfect fit. Her next chapter should be one of rest, love, and forever. 💙 Her adoption fee is $400 plus MN tax which covers her spay, vaccinations appropriate at the time of adoption, microchip and any additional medical care she may have needed while in the rescue’s care. We are a foster based rescue, we do not house dogs at a facility. Age and breed are NLR's best guess as we often don't know who or what mom and dad are. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website www.northernlakesrescue.org

Story
Every day is a celebration for Aaron because he loves each day more than the last! This young boy is a 7-month-old, 27-pound Husky mix with sonar level ears. He was adopted as a puppy but was sadly returned to the shelter recently because he had a bit too much energy for the other slower moving senior dog in his previous home. He’s looking for a home with high energy friends who are just as excited about life as he is! He has plenty of dog friends here at the shelter who love to run and play with him. Aaron is a confident boy who loves meeting new people who will give him belly rubs. He already knows `sit` for a treat, though he needs a little help becoming 100% potty trained. While he has the occasional accident at the shelter, we think he`ll quickly get the hang of things in a consistent home environment!Aaron is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on his vaccines. You can visit him at the shelter Tuesdays through Saturdays from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM or Sundays from 12:00 to 5:00 PM.

Story
Meet Winter! Winter is a beautiful brown Husky mix with a calm, attentive personality who listens well and already knows how to sit; she's still learning her leash manners but improves everyday. She's incredibly sweet, affectionate, and happiest outside in the snow. She can be dog friendly and can be a bit much for some cats. She is fully housetrained. She's such a gentle girl who just needs love, patience, and some structure to help her blossom.

Story
Brother is a fun-loving, energetic pup who is always ready for his next adventure! He absolutely loves playing with other dogs and does great with cats and kids too. People are his favorite, and he’s always excited to make new friends. Brother is already off to a great start with training. He is crate trained, mostly house trained, and knows several commands like sit, come, no, and kennel. He also walks nicely on a leash and really enjoys getting out for walks and exploring. This playful boy has lots of energy and a big personality—so much so that getting pictures of him can be a challenge because he’s always on the move! If you're looking for a happy, active pup who will keep life fun and full of love, Brother might be the perfect match for you. He’s ready to find a forever family to play with, grow with, and love. ❤️
