Story
Aw, heck! Aren’t I handsome with bits of butterscotch in my coat? I may be bit reserved at first but warm up quickly, especially if treats may be offered. I walk easily, and friendly with other dogs. Squeaky toys are a favorite. I will do best in a calm home with a higher fence. Are you a patient loving adopter who will give me structure and reassurance? Then get ready for a loyal companion who will be deeply devoted to you. So come on in and bring the family and any pup pets along for a fun Meet & Greet. I can’t wait to see you.

Story
SPECIAL NEEDS DOG NEEDS YOU!!Nala is a 4-year-old Alaskan Husky, ready for adoption!Nala came to AWD in very poor condition, but you’d never guess it from her gentle spirit. When lab work showed that she was diabetic, one of our veterinarians took her on as a foster to get her stabilized. She has done well and is now ready for the big world again!Though she is visually impaired, Nala greets the world with calm curiosity and quiet confidence. She loves leisurely walks, taking her time to sniff around the yard, and she’s happiest when there’s a treat involved (which she adores). This lovely girl has a soft, serene disposition and shows affection in the sweetest ways—like gently nudging your hand to remind you she’s there, especially if ear scratches are involved (her favorite!). Her coat is surprisingly beautiful and well-kept, a little reminder of just how resilient she is. She is polite and easy to medicate. While Nala is usually quiet and easygoing, mealtime reveals her true husky nature—she’ll let out an enthusiastic howl if dinner is even a minute late! Despite cataracts Nala doesn’t let limited vision slow her down. She’s adventurous, eager to explore new spaces, and once she learns a layout, she can confidently navigate a home, stairs included. Nala is proof that strength doesn’t have to be loud. She’s gentle, loving, and endlessly brave—a special girl ready to share her quiet magic with a patient, kind family. If you`d like to meet Nala email our foster team at AWDFoster@cabq.govAll of her adoption fees are waived.

Meet Torro!Personality: Playful, goofy adventurerLikes: Running fast, playing hard, and making people laugh.Torro is a big, happy Alaskan Husky mix with joy written all over him. Running is his love language, and playtime is where his personality really shines—especially when his goofy, derpy side makes an appearance. (Fair warning: it’s extremely endearing.)He’s shown interest in other dogs and could enjoy a canine buddy, but a meet-and-greet would be the best way to make sure it’s a good match. Torro would thrive in a home that enjoys staying active and doesn’t mind a little silliness mixed into the routine.Fun fact: Torro can go from majestic husky to total goofball in about three seconds flat.If you’re looking for an upbeat, energetic companion who will keep you moving and smiling, Torro is ready to run straight into your life (and probably your heart).
