Story
It's True, I Act Like a Husky!4/2026 Update:  We have made the decision to add Bear to our group of Joyful sanctuary pets as we can easily manage his behavior here at the rescue and he loves it here and we love and understand him.  We will love Bear until it's time for him to wander to the Rainbow Bridge.  Bear was born about December 16, 2017 and weighs about 35 lbs.  We must let you know right away that if you don't have Husky experience (in your adult life) your application will not be considered.  Bear is mixed, which shrunk his size, but he still has a whole Husky personality and has been nippy with humans entering the home and with the kids that were friends of his kids.  He did love his kids and they could do anything to him, but going forward no children in his next home, please.  He is one of those dogs that when company comes you will need to crate him or put him in a separate room and get your guests settled before he meets them and if you are walking on a street you will need to be wary of humans, and children, approaching him too quickly and too close since he really is quite stunning in appearance and humans are going to want to touch him.   Let's get the other negative out of the way - this boy SHEDS!!!  The good thing is that he adores being brushed and since he came to us very matted we had to shave him and he was SO wonderful about it as he sat on the woman's lap as she relieved him of A LOT of fur!  Bear has too much interest in cats to live with any comfortably.   Now for the good part - he loves car rides and is wonderful with other dogs and loves playing with them and is on the gentle side.  Bear moved in quickly and realized he lived here now and he adores all of us and we ADORE him!  He is a very quite guy and if he has something to say it's in the 'wooo-wooo' language and he is SO smart!  He listens to you and when you are talking to him you can tell in his gorgeous eyes that he is all about you and trying so hard to understand everything.  When treats are being handed out he lays quietly waiting for you to notice him and be sure to give him one.  Oh, and he LOVES water!  He loves to be in it and on it - boats, paddle boards, kayaks - he can do it all!!!   Someone (has to be the right someone) is going to love this boy to the moon and back!   The Adoption Fee for this dog is $ N/A. Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control - a 'complete' pet. We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY.    Joyful Rescues has no funding except for our adoption fees and miscellaneous donations. Pet care and vet bills are expensive - you must be ready to take on this financial (as well as emotional) responsibility. YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 25 YEARS OF AGE TO ADOPT A DOG FROM JOYFUL RESCUES   We keep our pet list as up-to-date as possible. As soon as a pet is adopted, it is removed from the list. If a pet is still showing, it is still available for adoption.   Can't Adopt Me?  SPONSOR ME Look for the Link 'Special Instructions to Seller' if you want to note a particular pet Before you seek to adopt a pet from Joyful Rescues, please read our Pet Adoption page http://www.joyfulrescues.org/pet_adoption.html. Meet Queen, she is just about 1 yr old - and she has lovely light blue eyes, and is vocal like all huskies. She is still a puppy with energy to burn....but no worries, she likes to play with other dogs and can burn off that energy... she could be your ideal hiking partner. Queen did live with other dogs and and a cat and she has a bestie play date friend at the shelter named Loki.

Story
Apollo is a very friendly and playful dog with lots of energy! We would prefer he go to a family with lots of time to play, and ideally a large, fenced-in yard. Would do well with another dog with a similar energy level, and is friendly with cats. Also wants to play with the cats despite his size, which they may not like. He is crate trained and prefers to sleep in his crate at night, as well as eat his meals in there. Would do just fine as a grazing feeder, as he likes to eat slowly. Can be crated if you are out of the house, but will miss you while you're gone, so does best in a full and busy household. Content to spend his time wherever the most people are. Likes to sing, will "talk" to you if prompted. Enjoys car rides, prefers a regular schedule. Very trainable and knows most basic commands, but is very easily distracted. Apollo would be a great fit for any family that would appreciate a silly, talkative dog that just wants to be where the people are! Price is negotiable.

Story
Greta was born about March 6, 2023 and will likely top out in the 35 lb. range.  She is as good-humored and happy-go-lucky as they get! She's fantastic with the other dogs, thoroughly enjoying her time running and playing with them. Greta also did splendidly on her two-hour car ride to the main site after her transfer to Joyful Rescues from the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter, which sought assistance from local rescues due to dangerously high overcrowding.  Greta isn't a big barker which we love.  She does fine on leash and has met just a bit older kids and thought they were a lot of fun!  As for breed....she looks like a shrunken, blonde, Shepherd and, perhaps, there is some Husky in there somewhere along with a potential for Border Collie in her toy enthusiasm and likely there is a few other fun mixes.  She couldn't be cuter or a better size!  Greta may be a bit of a diamond in the rough, but without too much effort she will likely become your 'best dog ever'!  Greta has become a very strong swimmer! The Adoption Fee for this dog is $_550.00_. Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability.
