Story
Meet Starling – A Gentle Spirit Searching for Home, with Her Best Friend by Her Side With her soulful brown eyes and tender heart, Starling is the shyer half of a deeply bonded husky pair. She came into our care on 4/16 alongside Silver, and while life at the shelter has been overwhelming, the one constant has been their love for one another. These two likely spent their lives as outdoor yard dogs, and the transition to indoor life and human affection is still new—but Starling is learning, slowly and sweetly, that love is safe. She finds courage in Silver’s calm leadership, taking cues from her “big sister” as she explores new people and environments. In return, Starling offers a deep, loyal affection to those who earn her trust. In their small shelter kennel, you’ll find them curled together like puzzle pieces—grooming one another, cuddling for comfort, and waiting patiently for a home that won’t separate them. Starling is looking for: • A patient, understanding adopter who can give her time and space to bloom • A calm, secure home where she and Silver can continue to gain confidence together • A forever family committed to keeping this inseparable pair together Starling may be shy, but her heart is wide open. With Silver by her side and a loving home to welcome them, these two will make the most rewarding companions. Email adoptpetersburg@gmail.com to learn more or schedule a meet-and-greet.

Story
Meet Silver – The Wise, Gentle Leader in a Bonded Husky Duo Silver and Starling are two stunning huskies who came into our care on 4/16, and they’re looking for a loving forever home together. Likely a mother-daughter pair (though not confirmed), their bond is undeniable. In their cramped shelter kennel, they cuddle close and groom each other for comfort—two souls deeply connected, leaning on one another as they wait for a second chance. These beautiful girls spent much of their lives as outdoor yard dogs, so the transition to indoor life and human affection is still new. But each day brings growth as they learn to trust and open their hearts. Meet Silver: With her striking blue eyes and calm confidence, Silver is the older and more self-assured of the two. She’s curious, affectionate, and helps gently guide Starling through unfamiliar situations. Her quiet strength and loyal nature make her the perfect companion. What They’re Looking For: • A calm, supportive home where they can continue learning that love is safe and consistent • A secure yard where they can enjoy the outdoors together • A family committed to keeping them together and giving them the stability they’ve never known Silver and Starling are a beautiful reminder of resilience, love, and the power of connection. If you have room in your heart and home for two gentle souls who rely on each other—and will come to rely on you—please consider this pair. Story
Meet Arrow – A Gentle, Easygoing Husky Looking for His Forever Home Arrow is a 1-year-old Husky with a friendly personality and a calm, approachable nature that makes him easy to love. He’s social with both people and other dogs and has shown himself to be a great companion on walks — he walks well on leash and enjoys getting out to explore without pulling or constant fuss. Arrow has a sweet, attentive demeanor and connects quickly with his people. He’s playful without being overwhelming and settles nicely after activity, making him a great fit for someone who wants an active dog that can also relax and enjoy downtime. He does well with other dogs and would be happy to have a canine friend, though he’d also do fine soaking up attention as an only dog. Arrow is still young and will benefit from continued routine, structure, and positive reinforcement as he grows into adulthood. If you’re looking for a handsome, friendly dog who enjoys walks, companionship, and being part of a family, Arrow could be a wonderful match. Story
💙 Meet Sweetness — A Quiet Soul Waiting for Someone to See Her 💙 Some dogs arrive at the shelter loud and bold. Sweetness arrived softly. Sweetness is a young, 60-pound husky/shepherd mix with the most breathtaking detail of all — one stunning blue eye that seems to look straight into your heart. She’s still new to the shelter, and like many sensitive souls, she’s taking her time learning that the world can be kind. On leash, Sweetness walks gently and calmly, staying right by your side. She’s quiet, curious, and observant — the kind of dog who watches everything before deciding it’s safe. When walking alongside a friendly male dog, she showed polite interest and then peacefully went about her way, perfectly content. And here’s where her story gets even sweeter… ✨ With other dogs around, Sweetness truly begins to bloom. She seems to gain confidence from canine companionship and recently enjoyed a free play date with a laid-back male dog. In that space, something magical happened — Sweetness came out of her shell. Her tail wagged, her body relaxed, and she showed a playful side that felt like a glimpse into the dog she’s meant to be. 🎾 Toys are her secret joy — especially squeaky ones. Offer her a toy with a squeaker and she transforms into a happy, playful girl who clearly loves life. It’s incredible to watch her light up, reminding us that her gentleness doesn’t mean she lacks joy — she just needs the right environment to feel safe enough to show it. She allows gentle affection and leans into trust at her own pace. She doesn’t demand attention — she waits for it. And when you offer kindness, she receives it with soft eyes and quiet gratitude. 🌿 Sweetness Would Thrive With: A calm, patient home Someone who understands that confidence grows with time Gentle routines, quiet walks, and reassurance Possibly a calm, friendly canine companion A person who believes the softest dogs often love the deepest Sweetness isn’t the dog who jumps into your arms — she’s the one who slowly learns you’re safe, and then never forgets it. The kind of companion who bonds quietly, deeply, and forever. She’s waiting for someone special. Someone who sees her not as shy — but as gentle, thoughtful, playful, and beautifully brave. Could that be you? 🐾💙

Story
Mooney is as good of a girl as can be. She’s energetic, friendly, cuddly, and always happy to spot you making breakfast, lunch, or dinner. When we brought her home about a year ago, our daughter was just over a 18 months old, and we were delighted to watch Mooney lie next to her while she colored or play with her in the yard. But… we, (very) soon after her homecoming, learned we were expecting another baby, and between the exhaustion of pregnancy and caring for two tiny tots, we’ve found that we don’t have the capacity to give Mooney her happiest home. She LOVES to play, walk, and get out and about often, and with our young-family set-up, we can’t give her the time or energy she deserves to get from her human(s). She’s crate-trained and we can provide her crate, leash, bowls, toys, some food and treats. She also gets along with our cat, even though he is less keen about her. She really is a good dog and will make a great addition to your family!
