Meet Sawyer, a five year old Husky/German Shepherd mix weighing 71 pounds.Sawyer is the perfect mix of wisdom and fun—a great middle-aged dog who’s happily out of the puppy chaos but still has plenty of life and personality left to share. If you’re looking for a companion without the nonstop energy of a young pup, Sawyer might be just your guy. He’s a friendly, independent boy who enjoys being around people but is also perfectly content doing his own thing. Sawyer is smart and already knows “sit”… though he may give you a look first to make sure you really mean it! He’s got a bit of a stubborn streak, but it just adds to his charm and makes him all the more endearing. On walks, Sawyer loves to take his time sniffing and exploring the world around him—he’s a curious guy who enjoys taking in all the sights and smells. He’s also pretty intrigued by squeaky toys and will happily investigate what all the fuss is about.Sawyer would do well in a home that appreciates a dog with personality—one who doesn’t need constant attention but still enjoys companionship and adventure at his own pace. Meet Max, a two and a half year old year old Husky/Samoyed mix weighing 60 pounds.Max is a fluffy, friendly, and outgoing boy with the most adorable “awoos” you’ll ever hear. He was owner surrendered due to his family moving and being unable to take him along, and now he’s ready to find a home that’s just as special as he is.As a Siberian Husky, Max brings all the classic traits of the breed—talkative, social, and full of personality. He enjoys being both outdoors and indoors, soaking up attention wherever his people are. He’s great on leash, loves car rides, and especially enjoys kids and being part of family activities.Max is a big fan of head scratches and affection, and he’ll happily lean in for all the love you’re willing to give. Like many Huskies, he’s not a fan of crates and will need a home that understands his independent streak. He can also be a little opportunistic with trash cans, so a bit of management will go a long way! With other dogs, Max generally does well, though he would prefer to eat separately from them. Otherwise, he’s shown he can be a friendly and easygoing companion. If you’re looking for a fun, vocal, affectionate Husky with a big heart and even bigger personality, Max is ready to “awoo” his way right into your life. This pet is available for adoption on 5.1.26 at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. Story
Meet Polar, a two-year-old Siberian Husky mix weighing around 50 pounds.Polar is a striking young dog with beautiful ice-blue eyes. He was brought in as a stray and is still figuring out the world around him, so he can seem a little unsure at first. However, every day he’s showing more confidence and starting to warm up as he learns he’s safe.On leash, Polar enjoys taking his time to explore. He’s very much a “follow his nose” kind of guy, taking in all the scents and sights at his own pace. He’s not in a rush—he’s observant, curious, and steadily building trust with the people around him. He has met another dog while with us and seems to prefer other dogs that are low-key. He tells off dogs with too much puppy energy because he just wants to chill so he would be also fine as an only dog if that is what you want. Based on his appearance and temperament, Polar likely has Siberian Husky traits. Siberian Huskies are intelligent, independent, and energetic working dogs originally bred to pull sleds over long distances in harsh Arctic conditions. They are known for their endurance, strong prey drive, and love of exploration. Huskies are often social and friendly, but can be a bit aloof or independent-minded, especially in new environments. They tend to thrive with patient handling, consistent structure, and plenty of physical and mental stimulation.Polar is still adjusting, but with time, patience, and gentle guidance, he’s likely to continue blossoming into a confident and engaging companion. He’s looking for someone who understands his independent spirit and is ready to help him grow at his own pace. This pet is available for adoption on 4/19/2026 at 5:19 PM at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. Story
Meet Tyra Banks, a five year old Malamute/Great Dane mix weighing 80 pounds.Tyra Banks is the supermodel of the dog world! With some of the longest legs we’ve ever seen, Tyra is truly a sight to behold. She’s so tall and elegant that we wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some Great Dane in her family tree — though she could just as easily be an extra statuesque Malamute mix. Either way, this girl turns heads everywhere she goes. You really have to see her in person to appreciate just how stunningly tall she is. Ever wanted a dog taller than you? Tyra may be your dream girl — part dog, part horse! But Tyra is more than just beauty. She’s a friendly, affectionate companion who loves being close to her people and would make an excellent hiking or adventure buddy. She walks well on leash, plays gently, enjoys a good game of tug-of-war, and is wonderfully treat motivated. She already knows “sit” and “shake” and is happy to show off her manners for a snack and some praise. She has done well with other dogs that enjoy politely playing so we think she could go to a home with another dog or be an only dog. She does enjoy being the boss of other dogs so a dog that will let her rule the roost is best. Tyra is at that perfect age where she’s left the puppy chaos behind but still has plenty of happy, active years ahead of her. Because she does have a high prey drive, she would likely do best in a home without cats or small animals. If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind companion with beauty, brains, personality, and legs for days, Tyra Banks is ready to strut her way right into your heart. This pet is available for adoption on 3/16/2026 at 5:25 PM at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center.
