Story
Meet Gigi! This 2-year-old Jack Russell mix is bursting with personality and ready to bring a whole lot of spunk and joy into her forever home! True to her breed, Gigi is full of energy and would thrive with an active family or a fenced-in yard where she can run, play, and burn off that Jack Russell energy. She’s always up for a game and has a fun-loving spirit that will keep you smiling. But Gigi isn’t just playful—she’s also affectionate and adores attention from her people. She walks well on a harness but may occasionally pull if something exciting catches her eye. We haven’t had the chance to fully test her with other dogs yet, so slow introductions would be best if you have a pup at home. If you`re looking for a lively, loving companion to keep you on your toes and fill your home with laughter, Gigi might be your perfect match!

Story
Our sweet Dash, we call him Dashy Boy is looking for a family that will shower him with unconditional love. Dashy Boy loves to have a job, whether it is carrying groceries home or keeping a sharp eye on his little children friends. Dashy Boy thrives off being kept busy and would do well on a farm as well! His breed will tell you, give me a job and watch me succeed. He is gentle with other dogs and is a very curious boy with other animals. He can not help himself but want to love on kitties but we all know it is up to the kitties discretion! Dashy Boy loves doing tricks and would do so well in agility courses! A fenced yard for him is a must! He loves to go on walk/run by the lake as well. If you’re ready for an abundance of love, Dashy Boy will be perfect for you & your family. He is the sweetest boy with loads of kisses and lap cuddles to give.

Story
Sweet, sensitive, shy Penny seeks a quiet, loving, and patient retirement home; could it be yours? Miss Penny is estimated to be 11 years of age and weighs in at 20 pounds. Her breed mix is unknown, and without a DNA test, we cannot say with certainty what breeds combined to create our beautiful girl, but we suspect Beagle and Jack Russell or other similar terrier high up in her family tree. This precious little lady was adopted from Pal's Place in June 2014 when she was about six months old. Ten years later, a now senior, mature Penny has been returned to Pal's Place and has again found herself searching for a family to spend her golden years with. Penny's previous adopters welcomed a new baby into their home several months ago, and Penny was having difficulty adjusting to the new, tiny human in the home. Penny was nervous and unsure around the infant. Her previous adopters felt she was living in a constant state of anxiety and stress and thought it best she be returned to the rescue for placement in a child-free home. Penny has been in the care of a Pal's Place foster home for several months and is adjusting to her new reality. After losing the only family she's ever known after a decade, she was very scared, confused, and depressed, understandably so, when she first arrived. Her wonderful, nurturing foster parent has given Penny lots of time, patience, space, and love to decompress and acclimate to her foster home. At first, Penny was not interested in interacting with her foster parent at all and would do all she could to avoid them. After several weeks, she slowly started getting comfortable and would accept a few pets from her new caregiver. She's slowly getting braver and more relaxed. Penny now follows her foster around the house, sits on the couch with them, and offers up some tail wags and smiles when greeting them. She is food-motivated, so many yummy, small, high-value treats have helped Penny bond with new humans. She also loves walks and a good game of fetch with one of her stuffies, and Miss P's foster parent incorporates several short walks and play sessions into her day to help facilitate trust and bonding. She is still spooked by quick or sudden movements of her foster parent and still prefers a very slow, deliberate approach. Penny is and most likely will always be extremely shy and skittish with new people and will need guardians who will understand this aspect of her temperament. She is housebroken, crate-trained, quiet, and well-behaved. Penny is being fostered in a home with several other dogs and gets along well with her temporary canine siblings. We feel she may adjust more quickly to her forever home if another dog is in the home. Many shy, nervous, or timid dogs thrive in homes with other dogs as they will look to other pups for cues, comfort, confidence, and support. However, this is not a requirement for her adoption as she has lived for the past ten years as the only dog in the home. Her ideal home is a quiet, adult-only environment with guardians willing and able to give her all the time, love, understanding, and patience she will need to adjust to a new home and new people. Guardians who will not expect her to be affectionate or lovey-dovey with them immediately and ones willing to put in the time and effort to earn her trust. While she may need some extra time and space to bond and trust, once she does, the love, affection, loyalty, playfulness, and companionship she'll return to you will be well worth the effort, and knowing you've helped heal her broken heart by offering her the retirement home she deserves will be incredibly rewarding for all. We understand Penny is not the most adoptable or desirable dog, but we have faith that her humans are out there! If you're looking to give an underdog, a dog who truly needs you, a second chance, a loving, forever home, then Miss P could be your gal. Penny is anxious for her happily ever after; please apply to meet her today! Penny is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date with vaccines, taking monthly flea and heartworm prevention, and is a very healthy mature pooch! Her adoption fee to the rescue is $275. She is in a foster home on Chicago's north side and can be seen by appointment only after an application has been submitted. Story
Maggie was previously a friend's dog, who needed to be rehomed when her young child turned out to be allergic. Maggie stayed with her first family from 13 weeks old to just shy of 9 years old. We were told that she was a very nervous dog. She's been with us for about 10 months and we have realized she needs a family with more training and behavior experience. When extremely nervous, she has bitten. Also when nervous she tends to have small accidents (pooping and peeing). She likes to be pet on her terms, and can get nervous if someone tries to pet her too quickly. Also if she thinks she's in any trouble, she tends to get really nervous and evasive. She would likely do best in a quiet house, although she does like kids. She does well with other dogs and cats and seems most nervous around men. She does like to cuddle on her terms and enjoys chewing on bones. She can follow basic commands like sit and stay.
