2. Rescue Story
Duffy was staying at the Miryang Shelter, where an ADOGS team member had been volunteering. The shelter was severely overcrowded with stray animals, and euthanasia lists were being posted periodically. Upon discovering Duffy's name on the list, ADOGS decided that rescue could no longer be delayed and stepped in to save him.
3. Personality & Characteristics
* Interaction with Humans: He is very shy around strangers and will not approach first, preferring to sniff from a distance while ducking away from touch. When treats are offered, he comes closer, and around familiar people, his startle response to movements or noises decreases, allowing him to rest comfortably. While he does not avoid familiar handlers, he generally spends his time quietly on his own rather than initiating contact.
* Interaction with Dogs: At the shelter, he showed mild curiosity toward other dogs but preferred playing independently with leaves or spending time on his own rather than playing together. Occasionally, he was herded or crowded by other shelter dogs.
* Interaction with Cats: Caution is required as he tends to bark when he sees cats.
* Separation Anxiety: When his guardian returns home after an outing, he comes out of his room to check on them before returning to his own quiet space.
* Potty Training: He uses indoor potty setups. When startled or frightened, he may accidentally pass stool. Retraining may be needed in a new environment.
* Grooming & Hygiene: If approached slowly and petted first before touching his paws, he gently pulls his feet back slightly but accepts nail trimming with zero biting. While he still feels anxious, he stays calm and accepts thorough brushing sessions very well.
* Leash Walking: Because walks are still unfamiliar, he gets fearful and avoids harnesses or leashes when he sees them, and extreme tension can cause accidental bowel movements. During outdoor sniffing sessions, he can get startled by the leash catching on his legs or the sound of motorcycles, requiring patient desensitization time for new environments and noise.
* Motion Sickness: He gets extremely tense during car rides, which once caused an accidental bowel movement in the vehicle.
* Biting/Defensive Reactions: He has never shown any growling or biting behavior.
* Barking: He may bark out of vigilance or alertness. He barks for about 2 to 3 minutes when first placed in a kennel. Upon moving to a new space, he may display howling during the adjustment period. While this behavior can be somewhat noticeable initially, it quickly settles down as he adapts.
* Personality & Tendencies: He is an independent soul who manages his alone time very well. He enjoys teething chew toys and nosework activities. Because he is timid, he feels scared of many new things including strangers, unfamiliar environments, physical touch, and outdoor walks. He needs a calm, patient family who will wait for him to open his heart at his own pace.
