Story
Meet Eddie, the 6 year old black lab! Although Eddie has a frosted face… don’t let that fool you - this guy still has plenty of energy. Eddie is your typical lab in the fact that he loves to play fetch and is eager to interact with people. He came to the Shelter with his friend Apollo (A328563) who is also up for adoption. Eddie and Apollo could go to an adoptive home together for someone looking for a duo but is not required to be adopted with Apollo. Eddie previously spent the majority of his time outdoors. He may do well in a home environment where he has easy access outside to a securely fenced in yard via a doggy door or a similar set up and can come in at night. As long as you have some tennis balls and a good throwing arm, Eddie will be a happy camper. The property Eddie lived at previously had outdoor cats who Eddie coexisted with.Eddie does not seem to appreciate the company of other dogs a whole lot (outside the ones he knows). A home as the only pup (or with Apollo) is recommended at this time. Adopters should be mindful to keep Eddie out of high traffic dog areas to set him up for success. If you are looking for a lab to be your BFF – come meet Eddie today! Now through February 15th, all adoption fees are reduced to $33 - come to the Shelter today to adopt your very own Valentine! The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Meet Elmo, the mixed breed! Elmo has some big feelings about the world and is looking for an adopter that will set him up for success. Elmo bonds strongly with his people and becomes the ultimate cuddle bug. Elmo appreciates socializing with people and his canine friends on occasion but finds solace in returning home to a quiet, low key house. Interacting with young children is not at the top of Elmo’s to do list, but teens are typically okay. He bonds strongly to his person and is very responsive to positive reinforcement training. Elmo will need a period of decompression in his adoptive home where he can simply get to know his new person and the routine without big outings or events with new people, animals or environments. Gradual confidence building and bonding will be important before Elmo starts going out on the town to busy, fast paced environments. Elmo has enjoyed play time at the Shelter with other dogs but does prefer not to share his people or items with his canine friends. Friends in the world to meet up for playdates – totally ok. Friends in his house around his stuff – not so much. In his most recent home, Elmo was described to be house trained and non-destructive. He really enjoys a couch and is ready to cozy up with his new person after a walk. Elmo`s adoption fee has been sponsored by a generous Good Samaritan! The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. Story
Weight: 16.8lbs Boson is a 4.5-year-old poodle mix who is thoughtful, sensitive, and deeply bonded to the people he trusts. He enjoys walks and exploring the world at his own pace, especially when given the space to observe and process his surroundings.Boson can be selective with both people and other dogs and does best with calm, predictable interactions. New environments and unfamiliar individuals can feel overwhelming to him, so he benefits from slow, structured introductions and handlers who are attentive to his body language. While it may take time for Boson to feel comfortable, once trust is established he is affectionate, loyal, and highly engaged with his people.Boson is looking for a calm home with a dog-savvy adopter who will allow him to settle in at his own pace and continue supporting his positive progress.Interested in meeting Boson? His meet-and-greet process will be a little different to help set everyone up for success. The first step will be a meet and greet with our behavior specialist. Please contact us to learn more and see if Boson might be the right fit—we’d love to talk with you! We are open 11am-5pm Tues-Sun.
