You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & be able to drive for a meet & greet. Another product of the puppy boom, Pignut wasn't sold by his breeder in a timely manner. So, he "aged out" & was sent to rescue. Pignut hasn't had much opportunity for socialization in his short little life. He will need a family that takes the time to bond with him & show him the ropes. We like to remind applicants that a new puppy is a lot like a toddler. Pignut will need to be supervised, and the best way to do that is to have a dedicated space set up for him. This area will be a part of the home where he can see activity & observe, but it is a place that is puppy proofed. Where he can play, lounge, or nap when his family is not directly engaging. Playpens, 4-squares, or x-pens are excellent tools to make this possible. They are easily mobile if you want to move them around, too. If you have interior stairs, please have a plan to keep your puppy off the stairs unsupervised. Additionally, please be aware of the stair railing & the distance between the spindles. Small children, anyone unsteady on their feet, and large dogs could be a safety hazard for Pignut. So please consider that when making the decision as to him being a good fit for your family. Pignut has been really successful with his potty training. It is a process that will require commitment & patience, as puppies have a little puppy bladder. Remember, in a new home, a new environment means that new habits will have to be established. Please give him time to get used to a schedule & set him up for success! This little guy is doing rather well with harness & leash training. We will accept applications from families who do not have a fenced yard. But we will insist on you having a plan for a safe area where Pignut can do his potty business without being stressed or startled. If you do have a fenced yard, your fence must be very secure, a 10lb puppy can quickly fit through very small spaces. It is worth considering having an xpen for your yard, as this would be an extra layer of protection for Pignut's safety. No puppy should ever be left in a yard without supervision, NEVER EVER. Bringing home a new puppy is a huge responsibility. It requires lots of patience & time! But it is very rewarding if everyone is invested. Please apply if you meet the requirements & would like to adopt a wonderful new friend. Please don’t apply without speaking to your spouse/partner first.

You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & be able to drive for a meet & greet. If you follow our socials, you may remember Esmeree's intake story: Esmeree was found in an abandoned house with several newly born puppies by an individual. Unfortunately, all her puppies were deceased. She was doing everything she could to take care of herself let alone care for her puppies. She was posted on several social media pages for several days and no rescues offered to help her. After seeing these posts day after day, we knew she could not be left to suffer any longer. So we sprang into action and made plan even though we don't take normally take medium size dogs. When she arrived in foster care we started accessing her injuries. She was scared, bleeding on her ears and face, and holding up her back leg. Was she bitten? Did she get caught in barbwire fencing? Did she get into a fight? And she was skin & bones. We did the best we could at the time to treat her wounds, but Monday came and we dropped her off at the vet office first thing. She weighed just 36 pounds. They took blood and ran it for everything. Thankfully it came back unremarkable and heartworm negative. They took urine and it was normal. They ran a fecal test and she was positive for whipworms which is easily treatable. They took x-rays from head to tail & everything became heartbreakingly clear. Esmeree left hind leg (femur) is severely fractured due to being shot. She had shrapnel present in her leg. We had no idea as the outside wounds had already healed but the bones were not healing on the inside. After several discussions with multiple vets and orthopedist, amputation was the best treatment in this case. Now we know what her medical condition is, we need to get her good nutrients and weight healthy so she can be spayed and have her leg amputated. In about 3 weeks, she had gained 10 pounds so she was ready for her surgery. Her leg was removed and she went through several weeks of physical therapy and has recovered wonderfully. She is not hindered by only three legs. Since coming into our care, Esmeree has received all the medical care she needed and we have learned all the things that scare her from being abandoned. She knows she will be fed good food, clean drinking water and a fluffy bed to sleep on. We have learned she is scared of thunder or loud boom noises and ATV's. Esmeree is a very loving girl and just wants someone to love her back. She does walk on a leash and harness but she also loves to be outside on nice days. So she will need a fenced yard so she can enjoy her outside time safely. Esmeree does get along with other dogs but we do not recommend her with small dogs because she really has not learned how to play with them safely. Bringing home a new dog is a huge responsibility. It requires lots of patience & time! But it is very rewarding if everyone is invested. Please apply if you meet the requirements & would like to adopt Esmeree. Please don’t apply without speaking to your spouse/partner first.

Mini Poodle 4yo- DOB 02/17/21 9lbs Spayed/Microchipped UTD on vaccinations Current on flea & heartworm prevention INSTRUCTIONS for ADOPTION: ***Please read the bio in its ENTIRETY. ***If you feel your family is a perfect match, please send a completed application to gateway4paws@gmail.com. ***Applications & FAQ regarding adoption can be found on our website. ***Only completed applications that meet requirements will be reviewed. ***Since we are 100% foster-based rescue, only approved applications will be contacted or scheduled to meet our dogs ***We do not allow shipping & do not transport. ***You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & be able to drive to the foster for a meet & greet. Jingle came into our program as a breeder release, a young adult with a long life ahead of her. When Jingle arrived in her foster home, she was quite reserved. She was confused, she wasn't sure if this was a good thing or not. She was very timid & scared. Boy, has she really changed, she has flourished & bloomed! Once so scared, she willingly goes to her foster mom & seeks companionship & cuddles from her. She will do best in a calm, low activity home. A home that is willing to patiently allow her to adjust & get used to her forever environment. Going into a new home will be another change for Jingle, but she is very brave & we know that she will successfully make the transition if given a chance. She will do best learning from other 4-legged siblings, we would like to see her find a home with some friends of similar size & energy level. She follows her foster siblings around, she likes to play with them very gently, no rough housing. In her foster home, she has proven to be 100% house trained. We are so proud of her. With that said, her new family must understand she could have a few accidents until she gets her new routine down. Please be prepared to give her ample opportunity for success, praise her when she does it right, & be patient with her. We have given Jingle space to decompress & get used to being a pet. We have not pushed the issue of leash training. We do not know if that is something she would enjoy in the future or not. Therefore, for her safety (& for her to be able to do her potty business immediately upon adoption), a secure physical fence yard is required. An aluminum or slat type of fencing will need a gap filler around the bottom half so she can't get through, something like galvanized wire mesh or another sturdy material. She isn't an outdoor adventure dog; she doesn't need a big yard. But she does need a very secure area to do her potty business. Never EVER should she be left in the yard alone. Jingle is the type of dog that becomes your BFF. Your movie-watching, couch lounging, hanging out, reliable friend. We look forward to matching Jingle with her forever family soon!
