Meet Baxter 🐾 Baxter is a sweet, affectionate boy who takes his job as a professional snuggler very seriously! Give him some attention and he’ll happily soak it all up. And if you stop petting him before he’s ready, don’t be surprised if he gently paws at you to let you know he’s not finished yet. ❤️ Baxter loves being outside, enjoying tasty treats, and having a good chew toy nearby. He’s also a great little travel buddy who rides nicely in the car and walks well on a leash. Baxter enjoys the company of other dogs, but he’s just as happy hanging out with his people. He would do best in a home with another friendly dog to keep him company and help him feel comfortable. When meeting new people, Baxter can be a little timid at first, but it doesn’t take him long to warm up. Once he does, his affectionate personality really shines! Baxter is crate-trained and stays comfortably crated when his people are away. He’s a loving, easygoing companion who would make a wonderful addition to a family looking for a loyal cuddle buddy. We use Pet Express Transport (https://petexpresstupelo.wordpress.com) for our Nashville, Knoxville and New England adoptions. For our Midwest adopters, we have our own private transport. Breed selection is done in conjunction with two local vets and is not to be considered a guarantee but rather a well-educated decision from well qualified staff. Hi, I'm Lumen! I've had a rough life, but thankfully these nice people rescued me. The first time I was here a few years ago I came from a big rescue with several other dogs. I was covered in mange and therefore why I have some bald patches and scarring on my face and body.Through no fault of my own I'm back at the shelter again, but I haven't let that dim my spirit at all! I'm a sweet girl and love to play! I've got a goofy personality and need to be your one and only pet. I seem to be potty-trained and walking on a leash is super easy for me. Can you look past my different features and love me for my amazing soul?  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##989014##

Meet Bessie! I'm a 2 year old Lab/Boxer mix with a gorgeous black coat! I'm a sweetheart and ready to find my forever home. I was dumped with my two puppies- who have since been adopted. Now this mama is ready to find herself love. Hi there! I'm Cheech and I am a 4 year old Lab/Bully mix. I was at the city pound for almost a whole year with no luck at finding my forever home. I was brought to PCHS in hopes of getting a better chance of being adopted. I'm a sweet boy and just need someone to teach me some manners. I'm highly food and treat motivated and have already got sit down pat, so I'm excited to know of all the other things I can learn! I seem to do okay with other dogs but would need a proper introduction to be safe. Cats on the other hand seem a little too interesting so I'd be best to go to a home without kitty friends. I do good with children too! I'm not sure if I am housetrained, but I am used to a doggy door and do great with that so I'm sure once I get a set potty-schedule in a home I'll do just fine.
